rr just told me his whole building was evacuated at work. And apparently people who live on high storeys felt it way worse than those of us close to the ground.

Sounds like Ottawa was hit bad, too.

A tremor woke me up in Ottawa a number of years ago. It was about sun rise, and I was sleeping in a water bed, Thought it was a dump truck or something out on the street. Didn't dawn on me that it was too early for that kind of thing until someone said later it was a tremor.

I was almost knocked off my couch by the loudest bang I've ever heard - turned out it was the construction crew blasting rock for gravel not far from where I live. I suspect I have a crack in the basement wall as a result, but will have to ig it out on the outside, not a job I want to do, and, besides, it happened almos a year ago.

I didn't really feel it much since I was outside at the time and I was looking through a fence at a construction site, I thought it was unusual because the fence seemed to move while I was looking though it, so I put my hand up to hold the fence. To my surprise, it was a rock solid fence, not a flimsy floopy one and at the time thought nothing of it.

Only when I got home and my wife told me about the earthquake did I recall the fence moving and put two and two together, shocking and scary.
