IDF destroys West Bank village after declaring it military zone

The IDF's Civil Administration destroyed a Palestinian village Monday morning that had earlier been cleared out when its water supply was cut off.

The IDF demolished about 55 structures in the West Bank village of Farasiya, including tents, tin shacks, plastic and straw huts, clay ovens, sheep pens and bathrooms. These structures served the 120 farmers, hired workers and their families who lived in the Jordan Valley village.

Rosemary's Baby

SINCE I witnessed the rise of the Nazis during my childhood in Germany, my nose always tickles when it smells something fascist, even when the odor is still faint.

When the debate about the "one-state solution" began, my nose tickled.

Have you gone mad, I told my nose, this time you are dead wrong. This is a plan of the Left. It is being put forward by leftists of undoubted credentials, the greatest idealists in Israel and abroad, even certified Marxists.

But my nose insisted. It continued to tickle.

Israel's New Land Grab Master Plan

Anger Rises Over US Tax Dollars for Settlements

"millions of tax-exempt dollars from the US are being funneled towards Israel's illegal settlement building in the Palestinian West Bank - in flagrant violation of international law.."

Shin Bet turns to Arabic after inadvertently summoning 7-year-old Palestinian

The Shin Bet summonses for questioning which Israel Defense Forces soldiers serve Palestinians will be written in Arabic in addition to Hebrew from now on. The development stems from orders handed down by the IDF's West Bank division commander, Brig. Gen. Nitzan Alon.

Amira Hass / Passports are the latest weapon in the struggle between Fatah and Hamas

Over the course of six days - between the 4th and 10th of July - 2,120 people left the Gaza Strip via the Rafah crossing. Another 396 who wanted to cross the border were turned away by the Egyptian authorities. And another small but significant number of people could not even reach the border, due to the struggle between Fatah and Hamas - even over the dubious authority to restrict their people's freedom of movement.

All Quiet on the Eastern Front

PEOPLE ENDOWED with sensitive political ears were startled this week by two words, which, so it seemed, escaped from the mouth of Binyamin Netanyahu by accident: "Eastern front".

Once upon a time these words were part of the everyday vocabulary of the occupation. In recent years they have been gathering dust in the political junkyard.

Arabs' Ties with Israel Damage the Palestinian Cause

http://www.countercurrents.org/kz010810.htm

"...there can't be any serious and acceptable compromise leading to a peaceful coxistence between Israel and the Palestinians. The reason is that Israeli society has been continuously shifting to the right so that more and more extreme branches of Zionism are governing Israel...there can't be any beginning of peace actually without an end to the occupation of the territories that were occupied since 1967, the dismantlement of the separation wall which Israel has been building and the immediate lifting of the blockade of Gaza..."

Lies and power go hand in hand. But what is considered outrageous in a sovereign state is catastrophic for a society fighting for its freedom. The Palestinians have two sets of leadership under occupation competing for the dubious title of "government" - and both are generating lies to perpetuate their status. The Hamas government, which won the majority of the vote in democratic Palestinian legislative elections, is not recognized by most countries. Yet these countries warmly accept the Palestinian Authority government, which was appointed by the president and leader of the party that lost the election, Fatah.

Participants in May's Turkish-sponsored flotilla to Gaza have been offered "Palestinian citizenship" as a gesture of thanks. But after learning that the Palestinian Authority is refusing to issue passports to some Gaza residents, most of them decided to decline the offer.

In Gaza, a Hamas informer and a UAV have just one name

Zanana is the slang word in Arabic for an unmanned aerial vehicle. "There are three types of zanana - the first kind watches us and photographs every movement and every person; the second type shoots missiles at us ... " Thus spoke an official of the Prisoners' Affairs Ministry in Gaza, formerly a Fatah stronghold. He looked very serious as he sorted through the various types, but when he got to the third type, his eyes twinkled in a way typical of many Gazans: "And the third type, the only purpose of the third type is to annoy us, to give us a headache," he said, as he skillfully imitated the typical humming of the latest craze (if I am still up to date ) in postmodern warfare.

Eight Palestinian teenagers were tried in the court of military judge Lt. Col. Menashe Vahnish on November 11, 2008. Referring to a soldier from the Kfir Brigade, Vahnish said, "at this stage, there is no reason to cast any doubt on the witness." According to his police testimony, on October 30, 2008 the soldier, T.M., and some of his comrades apprehended stone-throwing Palestinian 16-year-olds on a road that runs between the al-Aroub refugee camp south of Bethlehem and an agricultural school across the way.

The Elders of Anti-Zion

I WAS shaking with fear.

A well-groomed gentleman appeared on TV. He was identified as the chief of an association called Re'uth ("Sight"), whose aim is to monitor the groups which deny the legitimacy of the State of Israel.

Otherwise Occupied /

My creditors have been chasing after me and I have nowhere to hide. They've been doing so pleasantly - an e-mail here, a telephone call there, or sometimes an SMS. My debt? A few strands of information they gave me. And the only way I can defray it is by writing an item in the newspaper.

Children in the West Bank throw stones at army vehicles and Israeli cars, mainly those belonging to settlers. That is the undeniable truth. Throwing stones is the classic way of telling the occupier, who is armed from head to toe, that he has forced himself on the occupied. Sometimes it's part of a sweeping resistance movement, sometimes it's a ceremonial remnant of such a movement, not devoid of braggadocio and adolescent boredom, while also a reminder to adults not to adapt.

Harakiri?

IF GOD wills, even a broomstick can shoot - so I wrote after the appointment of the Turkel commission. I was quoting the Jewish saying in the hope that in spite of everything, something would come out of it.

The commission was born in sin. Those who appointed it were not interested in discovering the truth but in preventing the setting up of an international inquiry commission or an Israeli State Board of Inquiry. The "terms of reference" that were dictated to the commission were extremely narrow. At the beginning, the commission was not even empowered to compel witnesses to testify.
