Whining? Or just getting in touch with one's inner lost child?

Should the mods put a moratorium on these "Reactions" threads, or would something more subtle - like someone flying an airliner into them -  help?

KenS

Just a note that in the [supposedly] either/or in the thread title, both of them are put-downs.

From one of the threads you seem to object to:

You know, some people claim that talking about sexism/racism/etc make sexism/racism worse.

I'm seeing a parallel here.

At best, you engaging in thread duplication. Nothing you couldnt say in one of the other threads.

But then, if you dont like them, why would you bother?

Maybe it was important to include the word "Whining?" into a thread title.

Who knows?

And there will be no discussing 9/11 conspiracy, or that subject matter still being used to prop-up the war on democracy around the world and phony cause to be suspicious of ordinary citizens here in our own countries.

Questioning 9/11 could get you labelled a heretic.

Stargazer

KenS, I know you mean well but it feels a little odd this over protection of one of our female babblers (yes I mean Yiwah). Correct me if I'm wrong but you seem to pop up in every single thread she's posted in and then come to her defence. Not that that is inherently a bad thing, just sort of seems a little too much. Yiwah is a bright, articulate grown woman. I don't think she needs to have you follow her about in every thread defending every post she makes. She can take care of herself.

Just think about it before you react to me negatively. I don't think I would be too thrilled having some male poster constantly following my posts and defending me as if I can't do so myself, or worse, explaining what I mean to other people. It's a tad sexist.

Stargazer

Oh hey...a "what I am doing now totally naked thread"? I must have missed that. And what's the story on the 9/11 threads being censored?

I think there should be a moratorium on What's Your Favourite Colour? threads, and the seldom controversial, What am I lookin' at?-And what am I doing now while totally naked? threads. Highschool banter was fun while it lasted, but I'd rather have a diet softdrink.

Webgear

Careful Fidel, they will burn you on a large stake for making comments like that in post #3.

Fidel

We can have freedom to discuss 9/11, or we can have great concentrations of What Am I Doin' Now While Naked as a Blue Jay? threads. But we can't have both. - justice F;D. Brandi

Bye!

Bye Thread!

Fidel

Come back soon, Alien. We'll miss you.

Thanks Fidel, I am only leaving this thread (not Babble)!

It's too much fun!

Fidel

Good-good! I'm so glad it's not time to say, Klaatu barada nikto.

These meta-"wither-babble-threads" have never accomplished squat, and I've been reading them for almost 10 years now.

I find it helps to wear a cup while babbling.

I'm glad you wrote this Stargazer, but not happy it looks that way. Heretofore I just get PMs from people saying they are dissapointed I'm her dupe. Which I reasonably chalk up to their axes to grind.

As I said to one of them- I've been at this schtick longer than Yiwah. She's actually my sock puppet.

Did you ever consider the possibility that we just respond and think alike?

I dont blame you for not thinking of it. And though I've been at it for longer, Yiwah is more forceful and articulate, so she stands out more.

If I had known that would leave me looking like a follower, then I would have been more careful. Doesnt bother my ego- practical concerns.

[Though you know, I pushed things pretty hard in the obviously very closely realted male domination of discussion threads. And I dont think Yiwah was even there. But if people have already decided that I'm a follower... then that can be chalked up to me 'fighting the fight for her'. Sheesh.]

At any rate, this is quite played out.

To be clear, I'm just as pissed off as Yiwah about the same behaviour. On MY behalf... and also because it gets me going just as much to watch it happen to other people.

And I've been saying it for longer.

As offensive as I find the title and the OP, I'm going to keep this thread open.

Here's what I posted in the other meta-thread:

Okay. I guess I'll never go out on a Friday night again.

Here's the thing. There's a reason why there's a rule against complaining about the behaviour of specific babblers in threads. The reason is, this is a public space, there will always be disagreements, and calling people out by name has never gone well and never will.

I'm going to use the word "you" a lot, so that whoever reads this feels like it's about them.

My suggestion back in some thread or other stands. Why can't you just send the person a pm and talk about it there? Moderators are surely not here to moderate various personal and political differences aside from the obvious ones.

And the other thing is, nobody can control what someone else posts. So, let's say as an example, I've been fairly thoughtful about this post, and how I say it. I have absolutely no control over someone else reading it, posting a one-liner snark, or even someone posting a thorough critique of my poor and dreadful moderating skills.

That's kinda how it goes. It's a open, public discussion board.

I'm not saying that in the "get thicker skin" vein, since I disagree with that philosophy.

If something is (or is perceived as) a personal attack:

1. Flag it or email me and Catchfire. We may decide to take action, we may not.

2. PM the person.

3. Once those are tried, let it go. Ignore the person. Post your stuff and enjoy babble the way that you enjoy it.

Neither of these actions may resolve it to your liking. Again, there's a limit to how far we (Catchfire and I) can go to establish any kind of harmony.

And now I'm going to be a spammer and I will post this to the other active reactions thread about meta issues.

KenS

I already said I think this is played out.

And dont think the meta-thread approach can ever work.

But I am going to make a final closing statement about how practically I intend to deal with this in the future. Don't have time right now, and havent fully thought it out.

As much as I like whining, and as much as I like offending Maysie, I think we can do without this thread too.
