Dudes, is this some weird form of spamming that I haven't heard about?

Nice link, j.m. How did you know I have a thing for bedding?

Cool

If I were a bedding man, I'd like it too.

Jeez Unionist, I have no idea how you got ahold of the wardrobe for the upcoming rabble staff meeting. You are so banned.

I'm a slate grey/maroon accents gal myself. With heels.

What have you got against "basic black" Maysie?

Two words: Seer. Sucker.

Life, the unive...

Actually it was a passive agressive attack on remind, from the gun registry thread, but do continue to yuck it up while babble slides down hill and not deal with one of the main problems.

Hey, me too. I am always getting the gears for my collection of point blankets (and a few old classic CN ones).

And you know, a serger opens a door to a world of limitless possibilities.

What would you prefer - that we slide uphill?

Nothing passive about your aggressive, is there?

Where's the "flag as humourless" button when we need it?

Life, the universe and stuff:

I'm not so certain the classification of this thread as a passive aggressive attack is warranted. I did check the original post (and its thread, and the two preceding threads) , and unless it was couched in some totally private language, remind's posting in the gun registry thread was pretty much a non sequitur. If that posting was, in fact, a coded reference to something having to do with the topic at hand in the relevant thread, remind was running the risk everyone else does when they make a deliberately obtuse posting in a public forum... that risk being that someone is going to handle it like a sea lion handles a volleyball, they are going to toss it around the pool and other people are going to jump in and bounce it around too... such is the fate of one-liners around here... look at the bright side... this thread has provided us an insight into Maysie's concept of sartorial elegance.

My therapist, whom I called on her emergency weekend number, says I may never recover.

Well I hope at least that any of you who DO wash your linen aren't killing the planet with that phosphate poison.

Real soap, washing powder and borax for me.

Hey! We (Québec) banned phosphates in dishwashing and laundry detergents as of Jan. 1, 2008 for domestic use, and Jan. 1, 2010 for industrial and commercial use. [url=http://www.assnat.qc.ca/en/travaux-parlementaires/projets-loi/projet-loi...

How are the rest of the provinces doing? I understand Manitoba was gearing up to do the same.

ETA: Maybe this thread should be moved to the Environmental Justice, Fashion, and Follies forum?

Oh I would be a little careful about that borax 6079, I have been researching "alternatives" in trying to deal with an outbreak of creeping Charlie here at my housing co-op and borax is often mentioned as an effective weed control product... there are risks even to supposedly "natural" cures... including the risk that borax, unlike some of the manufactured products, will not "break down" and prevent any vegetation from re-establishing itself in an area that has been (over)treated with it. Just make sure you don't inadvertently spill any of that stuff when washing your linen.Wink

I love my high-efficiency, front-loading washing machine.

That is all.

@ Unionist

That is great news, actually. You know, just seeing all the garbage on the shelves (not to mention all that antibacterial soap that will probably turn us all into puddles of rotting goo in 50 years) I did't even think that anyone in authority in this country might actually be paying attention. On that front, I just do my own thing and try to work by word of mouth.

For what it is worth, you have made my day a bit brighter.

Same here. I also love that ours was a business expense.

I also love that it is dry enough in our part of the world that you don't actually need a dryer - ever - not even in the winter when you need to hang indoors.

Good to know. I have actually done fine with washing soda and bar soap. And of course I know borax as a good ant poison. I will check that out.

BTW, for anyone who is looking for a good disinfectant, Benefect is an excellent hospital-grade one which is less toxic than vinegar. Canadian-made, and based on thyme oil (it is in the same family as lysol and dettol). We use it for surface work, floors, and (when it is needed) laundry loads.

Would that I could do the same for your sheets and dishes.

But seriously, what's the story on phosphates in other provinces? Are they actually still on sale?

Well shows what a luddite I am. I actually went down to the grocery and couldn't find any phosphates. I found lots of big poison control warnings and chemical names I did not recognize (plus some bad ones I did, like sodium laureth sulfate, parabens, and the aforementioned antibacterial agents), but everything, including the big names, had NO PHOSPHATES in big letters. Kudos, but I'm still not going to buy any of that shit.

Thanks for bringing me into the 21st century, Unionist.

Linen isn't just for wearing, or sleeping on, or putting dirty silkscreens on, washing with borax, or making less than "suitable" jokes:
