To End the Occupation, Cripple Israeli Banks

Turkey's foreign minister has warned that his country will cut diplomatic ties with Israel if Israel does not apologize for its deadly raid on an aid flotilla.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told the Hurriyet Daily News on Sunday that Israelis have three options.

"They will either apologize or acknowledge an international-impartial inquiry and its conclusion. Otherwise, our diplomatic ties will be cut off," Davutoglu told the newspaper on Sunday. He spoke on his plane while returning from Kyrgyzstan.

Jewish settlers, who claim a divine right to the whole of Israel, now control more than 42 per cent of the occupied West Bank, representing a powerful obstacle to the creation of a Palestinian state, a new report has revealed.

The jurisdiction of some 200 settlements, illegal under international law, cover much more of the occupied Palestinian territory than previously thought. And a large section of the land has been seized from private Palestinian landowners in defiance even of an Israeli supreme court ruling, the report said, a finding which sits uncomfortably with Israeli claims that it builds only on state land.

I will toss in my two cents here. Simply put, a Jewish homeland only has as much right to exist as the US allows. Pull the nukes and the funding out and see what happens. Also, I'd like to note, the infamous Balfour declaration, which got us into this mess, stated that Palestine would be an Palestinian homeland. Only after the events of the second world war was the Balfour declaration thrown out/changed in favor of a Jewish homeland. My GF is German, born and raised. Her family were part of the Lufftwaffe and the SS and the upper echelons of the government, and she still to this date has war guilt. That's two generations removed. So it's easy to understand the sentiment. I think once we approach this isue with respect for both sides, then a solution can be raised from the ashes of thousands of years of slaughter. But, and let me be clear, I am in no ways a Zionist. To the Harper government, that makes me an anti-semite.

The Israeli navy has contacted a ship trying to break Israel's blockade of Gaza, but has not made any attempt to board the vessel, reports say.

"The navy just began its process of trying to stop the ship," according to an Israeli military spokesperson quoted by Reuters.

The Gadhafi International Charity and Development Foundation said on its website that the ship will not change course to an Egyptian port, which it says Israel has demanded, and will press on for Gaza. The foundation said an Isaeli naval vessel was shadowing its ship.

Thank you for allowing me one more opportunity to define the racist, violent, and anti-human nature of Zionism. @Kislev25

Do you get paid to write this bullshit? Where on this site is there evidence on this site of anyone denying Israel's "right-to-exist"? And don't even try to suggest that the Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment movement is such an attempt.

But your ridiculous ramblings are a good example of someone who is denying the right of the Palestinians "to exist".

Hitler established the Warsaw ghetto, which bears more than a passing resemblance to present day Gaza. There was an armed uprising in the Warsaw ghetto back then, and it was about as effective as the resistance fighters of Gaza are today.  Traffic fatalties take a far higher toll on Isreali lives today than any rocket attacks from Gaza or the West Bank. More Israeli's are killed by Israelis than by "outsiders" (including an assassinated prime minister). And you're wrong about Israel taking 10 lives for every Isreali killed. It's more like 50:1 or 100:1.  That, my friend, is genocide.

I just finished a great book called Mistakes were made (but not by me) by Carol Travis and Elliot Aronson.  It deals at length with the idea of "cognitive dissonance".  Feeling a little unsettled after reading that last paragraph Kislev25?  That's cognitive dissonance you are experiencing.

The title of the book also nicely sums up Israel's own investigation into the deadly raid on the Gaza flotilla.  Or the entire George W. Bush administration. Israel is in a deep state of CG (my own conclusion) and so are you Kislev25.

Quote:

Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, has insisted that he will withdraw from direct talks with Israel if it does not extend its freeze on settlement building when it expires on September 26.

The pledge was intended to placate widespread opposition to the resumption of negotiations from within both Hamas and Abbas' own Fatah group. But his promises are unlikely to make a dent in the growing disillusionment with a 'peace process' many see as providing cover for continued Israeli expansion. And, coming after he backed down on his vow to boycott the talks without a prior Israeli commitment to extending the freeze, Abbas' words are lacking in credibility.

It is, in fact, the words of Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, that today ring louder and clearer in the ears of Palestinians. "You don't need to worry. Nobody needs to teach me what it is to love Eretz Israel," he told Likud party members before leaving for Washington. His use of the term 'Eretz Israel' - meaning the land between the Mediterranean and the River Jordan - implies that he has no intention of giving up control of the West Bank and East Jerusalem and, consequently, will not allow the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.

Really?  I don't know what all  the fuss is about.  Long ago Bibi pledged that he'd never allow the presence of a terrorist (ie. Palestinian) state on the Zionist entity's "borders."

Obama's Ridiculous Mid-East Summit

By ALEXANDER COCKBURN

Quote:
It has been impossible to read the agenda for the Oval Office summit between Obama, Netanyahu and Abbas without laughing out loud at the absurdity of its pretensions....
....
The tenor of Israeli politics today is one of fanatic rejectionism of any halt to settlements, any serious concession on borders, beyond a Palestinian “state” in small chunks, hemmed in by Israel’s highways and fences, with water diverted and communication between the various fragments of Palestinian territory under rigorous Israeli control and constant harassment. East Jerusalem as the proposed capital of a Palestinisan state  is under incessant invasion of new Jewish housing projects.
....
When the moratorium expires in three weeks [Netanyahu] will allow settlements to go forward, which in turn will prompt Abbas to  threaten to act upon his commitment to abandon the talks if this occurs, a scheduled duty, as Jeffrey Blankfort predicted here on our site  last week. Israel will continue its rightward lunge,  with dissent increasingly  purged in an increasingly vicious political environment.  The Obama Plan will join all the other diplomatic ruins in the desert of dry bones --  the most conspicuous feature of all maps attempting to depict the search for a “just solution” in the Middle East....
