We're entering our 5th year of Vigils! October 4th is a day where we honour the lives of missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls. The violence experienced by Aboriginal women and girls in Canada is a national tragedy. We must take the time to give thanks to the families who have inspired the SIS movement and who are our reason we all continue to demand action. Together with our partners Amnesty International Canada, KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives, National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC), and Canadian Federation of Students (CFS) we rally SIS advocates to host vigils in their own community.

Two years ago Monday, two young teen girls vanished without a trace from the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg native community, north of Ottawa.
Shannon Alexander, 16, had walked with her father from their home on the Algonquin First Nation reserve to the bus station in neighbouring Maniwaki, Que. Her father was travelling to Ottawa, about 130 kilometres south, to help his son paint his home. Their walk to the bus station was no more than 10 minutes, and Shannon went back home, where her friend Maisy Odjick, also 16, was waiting.
The two teenagers were never seen or heard from again.
Police followed several leads. Searches were organized, all to no avail. Gradually the case went cold.
A vigil will be held Monday to mark the second anniversary of the two teenage girls going missing.

remind, lose the snark please. This is a horrible reality and deserves more respect than quibbling over which forum it belongs in.
Since this is an action about disgusting state violence/inaction and death experienced by Aboriginal women in Canada, this topic could go in the feminism forum, the Aboriginal issues forum, or remain here. That's hardly the most significant thing to focus on.
And if this can be the last post that's not on the topic of the OP I think, as a settler, that would be the very least we can do here.

Hmm glad to see a Toronto Vigil scheduled. I'll have to arrange for Mrs Bacchus and the little Bacchanae to go since she expressed an interest
