i had a cousin who worked there and she said it was sleazy as hell. The main thing is this is not isolated...there are many places that cater to men that only hire women who will dress/act a certain way.

Perhaps this will prompt other women to complain- there are many chains (Moxies, Cactus Club, Earls, etc.), that do the same thing.

I am really quite amazed at the number of establishments in the hospitality business that continue to discriminate on the basis of gender for front staff. In addition, they seem to discriminate when it comes to physicaly appearance and age.
Yet, nothing is done about it. Clearly, Hooters is the most egregious example, but there are so many more. They won't hire women over 30, and always find a way to fire them as soon as they get too old. Sexual harassment is just expected in these industries, and the owners know that those that complain will be conventiently fired, and it is rarely worth it for anyone to go to court over.

so true. thats why i stay away from chain restaurants and the like, there are so many way better options in a city that don't treat their workers like crap!

Boston pizza, at least the one's I've entered, have different dress codes for staff along gender lines. Tight fitting low neckline T-shirts for the mostly teenage waitresses, and button up shirts with collars for the guys. The guys wear what appear to be relax fitting trousers, while the waitresses wear form fitting pants which have the painted on look in some cases.

As for the thread topic, sexism sells. And because of the way the world is, there will always be young women who need work to take those jobs.

I worked as a cook in a chain restaurant once.
The women who worked the front had to wear tight shirts.
That is, until one of these ladies became one of the managers, and then the women got to wear more comfortable clothing. The female manager only cared that it was black (the colour of the original uniform).

She immediately took her complaints over the suggestive chant up the ladder of the Wolverines management. When she was told the chant would stay, she went to the media. Within days, she was publicly humiliated on local radio by the cheerleading coach and young Kennedy was summarily kicked out of the squad. The primary complaint was that Kennedy's mom broke a cardinal rule of both small town despots, exalted religious leaders preying on children, and financial crime syndicates: what happens "in the family" stays "in the family."
Every facet of this society as we know it, from the Wall Street upper strata to fast food waitressing, cultivates and encourages humiliation and objectification, while punishing those women and girls who would beg to differ about their assigned place as others would determine for them. We have female child beauty pagents with which to indoctrinate at the earliest age possible. There is a sickness and violence to this society for which there appears to be no lasting remedy.
