Easy there, dude.  I've skimmed through it quite a few times but the weird formatting gives me eye strain.  Bigger, different font and break up those paragraphs a little more.

And, yes, I consider it spam because you are posting something that's quite clearly your work, and you re-post the link constantly.  If other babblers linked to it, fine.  Otherwise, I suggest paying for advertising or join the army of bloggers already being hosted on babble.

I have a new theory on the CBC.  i beleive that for the last ten years the people hiring at CBC have used a simple device to weed out people.  They ask new recruits for their most influential books.  Apparently the right answer to get you to the top of the resume pile has been, "Fountainhead."

The CBC promotes the imperial ideology of Friedman as popularized by Ayn.  Until someone cleans out the upper and mid management and brings in people who are not imperial wannabes it will only get worse.

- I think it's just a trick question - if you give any book at all you get rejected - haven't you heard? Reading is passe - people watch tv now. 'reading' is confined to txtmssg, dood, people don't want to face anything longer than a few hundred words.

Darn! I said "Atlas Shrugged". If only I'd known...

The CBC is a state owned and run enterprise. It is there to propagate the state. You are getting yourself all worked up over something that is set up against you.

It's better just to say your good byes.

- giving up is not a good idea - we see what the right do with somewhat constrained power - with unlimited power, we're back to feudalism-cum-1984 - not good. The *current* state is certainly working against us - but that means *our* democracy has been usurped, and we need to fight to get it back. ... http://www.rudemacedon.ca/what-happened.html might give you a bit more perspective.

I am at some level aggreeing with siamdave.  Months ago I posted on another thread about how it seemed nobody on Rabble wanted to do anything and others posted a reply about gardening or something.

What is the value in complaining about the CBC if the only response is to turn it off. It seems that there seems to be a need for a coherent  organized response to the corporate media's control of discussion. And I really see CBC as being corporate as it responds more to the demands of corporate discourse than any particular detail of parliament. What we need is a Canadian version of FAIR that actually wants to take the public stage (as opposed to the actual FAIR in the US which has apparently reconciled itself to total marginality).

Some naivete here that I hope to clarify. While the CBC is largely tax payer funded and should work on our behalf to present the truth; in reality since the CBC is beholden to the current federal regime for funding. it will represent their viewpoints. Though it bills itself as the "voice of Canadians" it really is the propoganda arm of the Fed gov't.

The veracity of this statement can be seen in the current coverage of the Israel/Palestine conflict. Though I rarely watch CBC TV, I did catch a show with Evan Soloman about how Canada should regard this conflict. Once I heard Israel's fifth column speak, oops I mean Evan Soloman phrase the entire debate by framing it as a "Hamas is a terrorist organization ... " and having a dummy represent the palestinians viewpoint, it was quite clear to me that one function of the CBC is too communicate the gov't line - even when it's not popularily supported by Canadians.

I fled - FLED! - from the CBC site today, after finally realising that what appeared to be a rare, periodic "Disabling" of my "Content" was morphing into a regular phenom.  Coming here, and basically going through four pages of comments, merely confirmed what I already suspected.  It seems that any comment that challenges the "Powers that Be", whether globally or on the CBC site (two entities that appear to be merging), is summarily censored.  No-one is going to convince me that the snakes aren't on the plane.  It is unfortunate that the one media outlet we should be able to trust - on our dime, no less - has been contaminated with this rot.  Time to up my contribution to rabble!

In spite of all its right-wing bullshitters like Rex Murphy, Solomon, Mansbridge, etc, except for co-op radio, the CBC is so much better that the commercial right-wing trash radio like CKNW in Vancouver.

There is a lot of good stuff on CBC, but their News Dept is not part of that, and needs to be shut down.

I wonder what is taking Harper so long.

A PBS network for Canada is overdue.

@NorthReport:

I would respectfully suggest that the CBC *is* our version of PBS, in that it is funded by taxpayers.  While there are those who vehemently disagree with this method, I still maintain that as a PUBLIC BROADCASTER, we Canadians should be able to access all points of view, regardless of ones' politics, religion, or social status.  That this Conservative government views the funding as "theirs" to dole out (with conditions and caveats) is just another in a long line of bones I have to pick with them.

I agree with you, though - the CBC is still heads above the rest in this country.  They simply have to turn their heads around and face forwards - and damn the torpedos.

The idea that Harper is the person who killed journalism at the CBC is not accurate. He may be killing off the survivors but he didn't start the massacre.

Jean Cretien appointed Robert Rabinovitch as president in 1999 and Carole Taylor as Chair in 2001 and they did the main damage initially.

Blaming Harper for everything merely feeds the Liberal revival.

Quote:

While serving as head of the CBC, Rabinovitch ordered the lockout of 5,500 unionized employees in 2005, leading to a two-month labour struggle between the Crown corporation and the Canadian Media Guild.

Prior to his appointment as head of the CBC, Rabinovitch served as Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Claridge Inc., a Bronfman family holding company. He has been a member of a number of corporate boards, including Cineplex Odeon and NetStar Communications. He was also a member of the federal government's Direct-to-Home Satellite Broadcasting Policy Review Panel.

Slumberjack

Rosemary Barton named permanent host of CBC's Power & Politics

She seems to have underwent a long probation period, but it finally paid off.

Quote:
According to numbers provided by Numeris, a Canadian audience-measurement organization, the show has seen an increase in viewership of more than 50 per cent this fall from the same period last season.

Which is why I think it's important to shine a light on the oligarchs.

Agreed! Which is why the demand must be to democratize the CBC or replace it with funding drect to community radio!

Be interesting to see how Trudeau approaches the CBC.  Their platform says they'll invest a $150 million more per year in the CBC.  Sounds okay, though given the size of CBC and annual raises and costs, I'm not really sure.
