CAMBRIDGE, Ont. - The member of the Ontario legislature for Cambridge has announced his intention to retire.

Progressive Conservative Gerry Martiniuk says he will not run in the 2011 election.

Martiniuk says he wants to pursue other interests that he has put off since his first election victory in 1995.

He will continue to sit in the legislature until the October 2011 vote.

Are you running again in 2011, Max?

No edmundoconnor it's unlikely I will run. However, there are at least three names I can think of that could win here if they decided to seek the nomination for the NDP.

Who would be some good candidates there, with no incumbent that is a riding we could have a real shot at.

If you were to look simply at people in Cambridge who are NDP-friendly that have experience in winning election campaigns, there are 5 sitting elected officials between city council and the school board. As well, two former MPPs are still capable of taking back Cambridge for the Orange team.
