I don’t really blame the Canadian military for not investigating. During Harpers “cut and run” speech he made days after his inauguration he also mentioned the fight against heroin on Canadian streets.
Unfortunately Canada will be now leaving Afghanistan in a cowardly and shameful fashion…yep cut and run cowards…..to now look like international drug peddlers of drugs that find there way to Canadian streets poisoning Canadian children would be too much of a disgrace. Best to just bury their head in the sand and pretend the problem doesn’t exist.

Its looking a bit odd now, with the news that the military spokeperson saying "there are no allegations of Canadian heroin smuggling, and there will be no investigation of any smuggling".
Odd, cuz there were allegations made publically, but no investigation.
Odd, cuz it happens all the time. Illegal drug smuggling by military people, and by government agencies, is routine and valuable for reasons other than money [although that remains a primary motive for the troops doing it]. The CIA, for eg., helps the drug trafficers because in return they get "intelligence" that could not be had by any other means.
So I think these blanket denials are all about giving the troops doing the smuggling some confidence that they won't be busted. The message the military brass is sending the troops who are doing the smuggling is "Go ahead, keep smuggling those drugs, don't let this news coverage stop you, we need that intelligence".

They say there is no investigation, but in fact the BRITS are investigating their troops who were involved in this smuggling. So there.

Maybe there are some good practical reasons for "letting" the troops move the Afghan heroin, such as "if the troops don't sell it there will be more heroin for the Taliban to profit from".

And we can bet that 50 is an exaggeration. Military numbers are always exaggerated. We knew that "al Qaeda" was never the reason for the invasion and occupation anyway, so it must be that the CIA and friends are running drugs out of the country. American CIA are the biggest dope dealers in the world for many years. And drug money is used to subsidize the military occupation of Central Asia. They've essentially copied the British imperial model for dope dealing and running drugs in Asia.

Of course..there is no way they can turn away from that kind of tax free money....cartels so powerful they control the bank of america..where else can they launder there money if not the stock market and BOA.
People should be informed of this hypocritical situation because they are paying socially for it and financially in fake drug wars, but I think it's more complex and they felt a security need to get involved also. When you realize the extent of the black market underground which basically reaches all the way into the most fortified institutions in the world....states, provinces etc can easily be targeted for all kinds of devious motives..be it biologicals or smuggling anything into a country...they probably feel by having an active role they will know every hole, nook and cranny.
What they have done to so many people over it should not go unpunished..the lives, countries they have ruined , destroyed and the money thay have swindled out of every tax payer...Sorry USA when the whip comes down you earned it. No cry baby whining for the USA....

And yet there are people who don't understand why illicit drugs are not legalized today, even though legalizing would take profit out of drug dealing as well as relieving misery for millions of people addicted to drugs. Legalizing makes all kinds of sense, and yet it doesn't happen. Third rail issue and all that.
It's a very sensitive issue with our governments, and few of their political objections to legalizing are based on very high minded morals or ethics. Not really.
There are reasons why as Buddy Kat mentions. Dope is a source of income for illegal government-sponsored military incursions into sovereign nations, for corrupting politicians and subjugating whole nations of people for a long time. It's what they do. Do governments lie to the public very often? You're darned right they do. Lots.
