What's in a name?: babble handle amnesty day - February 14

So, every now and then, a babbler accosts Maysie or me, asking for their handle to be changed, citing any number of reasons. "Being drunk doesn't count as a reason, oldgoat," I usualy respond.

We here at babble usually resist changing handles, because it's not like a new suit of clothes. It's an identity, it's how people know you, and in the interests of building community, it's necessary to have some kind of stability. That said, name-changing does happen--and since one of our moderators partook in this dubious practice, we can scarcely deny it to others with a straight face.

Yet we must approach this question with reticience and caution. Back in the day, there used to be an annual amnesty where babblers could change their handle. I don't remember when it was, and I don't care to look it up. So Maysie and I have decided on a new day: February 14. There you have it: a 24-hour period where any requests made in this thread will be honoured and I or Maysie will change your handle to the new one. We reserve the right, of course, to deny any change if the new handle is offensive, confusing or if we just plain don't like you (oldgoat, I'm looking at you).

So, starting to midnight tonight, let the floodgates open.

Hmmm... a tempting offer. Can babble survive without Boom Boom? Laughing

Slumberjack

Well now, let me see.  At my current rate of hair loss, I'm mulling over 'kojack.'

Fidel

Art Vandelay. I want to be known as Art Vandelay the importer, exporter, and part-time architect. I need some online cred when debunking government conspiracy theories.

But we need a Fidel! Surprised

Fidel

Alright-alright, nix the Vandelay then. But I don't even have a beard, and my Spanish is more like broken Spanglais. It;s like when I order soup in Spanglais and get goat stew. It's embarrassing.

But you do smoke a cigar and you wear a beret? Smile

Obviously, both Fidel and Boom Boom are excluded from this offer. As for 'Jack, when you work out the correct prefix to your name, let me know, Ko.

Is "Feminist Anti Racist Thug" still available?

Dig the initials.

Ken Burch

If I get drunk, can I change MY handle to "oldgoat"?

Bacchus

Maybe I should change mine to Anya's Slave?

Hmmm, I notice no one has asked if we can suggest name changes for other people yet. *waves to Maysie*

What, no takers? Perhaps I will just start changing babblers' names randomly to get the juices flowing.

Caissa

That should earn you a few new monikers.

oldgoat

I wanted to be Lord Oldgoat, Grand Admiral of the Imperial Galactic Fleet, but it wouldn't fit. :(

You only gave us a day's notice.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure Unionist and I have agreed to switch handles.

Slumberjack

If you could make a second George Victor name, there'd be several things I'd like to try my hand at again.

How about just DarthGoat.

Weltschmerz

Other than the fact that I keep forgetting how it's spelled (for those rare times I get signed out), I still like mine.  I'd change it to "Hutch Owen", but Tom Hart would track me down and mock me.

Will there be a new line of collectibles released?

Old Goat

or, more importantly, will the old one increase in value?

NDPP

OK, my handle is long and gets cut off or abbreviated mostly anyway. Please shorten to NDPP. Thanks

Aaaaand: Boom goes the dynamite.

NDPP

that was quick...Wink

WillC

I rarely post here, but when I do, I feel my nickname has connotations of rutal, southern bigotry.  Could I change to WillC   It is still Feb 14,  from Alberta west and points west.

To the babbler formerly known as Banjo: done.

Slumberjack

Yeah, i'm starting comb-over therapy soon, so I'll stick with my current handle for awhile longer.
