Sadly I missed out on this at the time only to see it today.

An internal report on Canada's efforts to catch and prosecute tax crooks says the federal government is letting too many criminals off the hook.

The newly released probe into the Canada Revenue Agency's enforcement arm found a raft of problems that suggest officials are doing a poor job of battling fraudsters and criminal organizations.

The report's findings, released at the launch of the tax-filing season, appear at odds with the Conservative government's tough-on-crime agenda, which has lately included tougher parole restrictions for white-collar criminals. The internal document indicates the vast majority of criminals convicted of defrauding the government itself aren't even sent to jail or prison.

81% of people convicted of tax fraud in the US go to prison. Only 16% do in Canada.

So we're pushing for mandatory minimums?

Or otherwise, what's the Legislative arm supposed to do about a failure in the Judiciary? Evidently they're getting caught, they're getting tried and they're getting convicted, but then a judge says "I sentence you to watch television, get drunk, hang out with your buddies and otherwise lead a happy normal life with a bracelet on your ankle!"
