The press have appropriately named Harper's campaign plane.

Eventually though someone will stand up to the bully. Just have to be smart how one goes about it, that's all.

Harper and the politics of smash, slash and smear

OTTAWA - There is a story of a meeting between Stephen Harper and a visiting head of government. During the conversation, which took place in the prime minister's office, the two leaders eventually discussed the parliamentary opposition in their respective countries.

What struck the visitor was Harper's antipathy toward the opposition, particularly the Liberals. "I don't like my opponents," the visitor allowed afterwards, "but I don't hate them. He hates his opposition!"

Hatred is a strong word. Whenever we spat "I hate you!" in the schoolyard, teachers told us to watch our tongues; you disliked the bully who washed your face with snow, but, really, you didn't hate him.

You have to wonder about how little personal regard Stephen Harper has for his opponents and how it affects how he runs a government and fights an election. More than any other politician in this country, this is a man with animus.

This a silly article. Of course you hate the bully that shoves your head in the snow. Many kids have been pushed into suicides by bullies. Really bad example.

PM's 'mean gene' is still a little too prominent

If he hopes to win over voters who are not part of his political base, Stephen Harper will have to change his ways

Deception, thy name is Harper

This country stands alone among parliamentary democracies in its antipathy to coalitions. Australia, the United Kingdom and New Zealand have coalition governments, as do most European democracies and Israel. Multi-party governments are more democratic as they share power more widely and equitably among a nation's citizens and regions.

Canadians' antipathy towards coalition governments may stem from the non-stop slop-over of American politics with its cut-and-dried separation of powers. But Canadian unity might be a lot less fragile if it had had more coalition governments. Certainly Canada's regional solitudes would not be nearly as impenetrable and divisive.

Harper knows the most likely election result is another Conservative minority. Will he finally work co-operatively and respectfully with Parliament? Or will he force Canada into its fifth election in seven years?

Another questionable campaign worker sends Harper scrambling

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper is distancing himself from another tainted political organizer who found a home in a local candidate's campaign.

Giulio Maturi, who was a top official in the campaign of disgraced former Montreal mayoral candidate Benoit Labonté in 2009, was listed as late as Wednesday afternoon as the campaign manager for a Montreal Conservative candidate.
