Yeah, it's a mess, and I'm still getting the CAPTCHA nonsense with every post I make - it's ridiculous.
When you press the "edit" button, however, you get the tools.
I'm leaving for an overnight visit to the hospital now, hope it's all fixed when I get back.

Again: this has nothing to do with CAPTCHA or the spam filter, it has to do with regular site maitenence.

Strange - I upgraded to IE9 and every time I tried to post to babble I kept getting "comment field required" messages. I uninstalled and went backk to IE8 - and everything's okay again.
IE9 looked awful - it might be faster, but the appearance is lousy. I'm staying with IE8.

A bit late to the party, but it looks like someone with admin powers accidentally clicked a button which erases all the comments to the original post. I think we've said before that this is incredibly easy to do and not realize it. I've restored the thread, but kept it closed, since despite the numerous excellent posts, was laced with vitriol and was already at 80+ posts. If babblers strongly want the discussion reopened, I'll do it.

I've been having this same problem for a few days, but right now it seems okay. Usually if I refresh the formatting buttons reappear.
