Ignatieff just isn't cutting it. So they brought in Paul Martin. And they are bringing in Jean Chretien. And today they brought Justin Trudeau to the help out in the GTA where people like Ruby Dhalla are in big trouble. Look at their screw-up with their health care ad today. The Liberals are in full crisis mode.

This is about more than just salvaging support. This is about Ignatieff starting to get elbowed out of the limelight by the next generation of would-be Liberal leaders. Ignatieff has a big target on his backside that says, "In case of an electoral loss, kick here."

So out of 75 seats the NDP getting a possible 24 or more percent with a strong second and the bloc dropping and liberals lower and the national post and others expect 2 to t3 seats maybe if the ndp is lucky 4 with Liberal, Bloc, and cons getting way more and no one thinks this is crazy talk? I know that fptp is unfair, but finishing a strong second with nothing to show for it seem like bs.

Even in our crappy system I refuse to believe that.

Our system is that bad.

Quebec is turning into a 4-way race where a a tiny change in support could have a huge impact on the end result.

Using FPTP in a 4-party system is idiotic.

Because of this, Quebec may end up being the first province to dump FPTP.

gyor

If that happen Quebec ndp voters have every right to riot and protest. When the best arguement Gilles can make is the undemocractic sysyem favours him is the day he does not deserve Quebecers votes.

JKR

The NDP has been ripped off by FPTP for decades and there have been no riots or protests so far.

Good!

Let's hope so!

Ekos details here - the news just keeps getting better and better in Quebec...as long as we don't "peak too soon". BC looks good here too!

Interesting thing is that EKOS now has a "really really likely" voter number (it's right before second choices)

I assume that means the Liberals lead the New Democrats among transgendered / transexual / intersexed?

Doubtful. Several Liberals (including a certain Mr Tonks) have proven themselves hostile to C-389. One of the very many reasons they do not deserve the public's trust.

You may have missed the post one higher, where despite showing that the NDP led the Liberals among men and among women, the two parties were tied overall.  You missed my tongue in my cheek.

I think the Liberals want Goodale there as long as possible, given the unlikelihood of finding a successor candidate.

When Ralph goes, the seat will become a bunfight between the Tories and NDP.

Rumour has it they intend to run Regina Mayor Pasquale (Pat) Fiacco, who has indicated he will not seek reelection in 2012.

As I undertand it, Fiacco leans to the centre-right end of the spectrum. Do the Liberals think they can credibly ask the left to vote strategically for this guy to stop the Conservatives?

Goodale was a Martin Liberal when that meant a blue Liberal.

Pasquale is actually pretty popular in Regina.

Still supports my contention that in Saskatchewan it is more the individual as opposed to the Liberal brand itself.

Agreed, A24.  Which means the best chance the Libs have of holding the seat is to find a candidate with a comparable level of personal esteem.  Hence Pasquale.

The Bloc leader merely evokes the "joviality" of its leader (the NDP). "Jack Layton is a really nice person, I have no doubt. We go to the same gym! But do you want to vote for someone who trains with me or someone who defends Quebec?"

Love it!

And I look forward to Ignatieff's new line:

Quote:
Tied with the NDP in a poll, Michael Ignatieff intends to hammer a message from now to the end of the campaign: Forget strategic voting, only the Liberals can replace the Tories. "I do not call for strategic voting. I make a positive appeal to all progressive-minded people to vote for us on May 2. Because it's me or Mr. Harper. That's the choice, "Mr. Ignatieff claimed during a press briefing in Yellowknife on Monday morning.

Great line!

Has anyone else noticed some of the key details of Angus Reid? The NDP is first amoung the 18 to thirty four crowd, second in the 35 to fifty area. Only among seniors are Liberals beating the NDP. Thank the gods Rick Mercer is getting the youth vote out.

Vote suppression is backfiring. The NDP has pulled off surprises in the past when the youth vote mobilizes. Turnout does not always go down; if it goes up, watch out!

I can't see Iggy surviving for long as party leader when this election is concluded.  The ascendency of Bob Rae should do wonders down the road for the NDP in Ontario.

On the other hand, maybe Mulcair will persuade Bob Rae to come back to the NDP, considering his excuse for leaving was that the NDP was dropping its traditional support for Israel. Layton, Mulcair, Rae and Duceppe at the same table! A grand coalition to be sure.

Slumberjack

That's an entirely plausible consideration Wilf.

KenS

Whatever else happens, neither Bob Rae or the NDP want the return of Bob.

now that sounded so pompous - fits with haughty character attribute - I guess he missed it!

I doubt there was ever a Russian aristo that sounded so pompous and so oblivious at the same time.

Is it just me or is the campaigns of the bloc liberals and cons falling to pieces. The attacks against the ndp are just sad and weak and appear to be failing and they each appear directionless as well as making gaffes.

femme_et_Verte

If Bob Rae becomes Liberal leader, forget Ontario, It will turn blue or green.

Maybe orange as Ontario's voters can take their rage about his government out on him and reward Jack for not being Bob.

NorthReport

Read the CROP article in La Presse that Krago linked to in the polling thread. And no Harper's campaign is not falling to pieces.
