Demand Hot Docs Respect Cultural Boycott of Israel

http://www.caiaweb.org/

"The Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid (CAIA) is disappointed to learn that Hot Docs has partnered with the Israeli organization CoPro Documentary Marketing Foundation, to organize a Canadian delegation to CoPro 13, a forum for international documentary co-production to be held in Tel Aviv from 23-30 May.

CoPro13 is part of a 'rebranding' Israel campaign to take the focus off Israel's treatment of Palestinians and its aggressive wars.

Palestinian civil society has called upon people of conscience throughout the world to take a stand in support of their struggle for freedom and the realization of their inalienable human rights by boycotting Israeli academic and cultural institutions.

We are asking filmmakers, artists, organisations and individuals to write to Hot Docs Executive Director Chris MacDonald at [email protected] and demand that Hot Docs stop working with cultural institutions supported by the Israeli state."

see sample letter and further instructions etc..

Yes, great idea - let's boycott Israel and end the spread of their advanced technology!  Let's not use any Israeli made or researched products . .. ... oh, wait . . ... you mean my cell phone?  No, you can't have my cell phone . ... it was invented in Israel? Really? We better rethink this boycott idea then . . ... and maybe I'll get a dictionary and look up the word 'apartheid'.

or we could just sit idly by while our tax dollars work hard to defend their war crimes at the UN and their propaganda goes unchallenged all over the country and our politicians fight over who can defend their terrible record of abuse and...oh yeah don't they pay people to go on message boards as part of that propaganda campaign?

Why don't you do that before posting again?

Rather than creating a boycott that focuses on not pitching films at CoPro13 it might be more effective to actually create a critical mass of people pitching films that focus on the Israel's treatment of Palestinians and its aggressive wars.

Unfortunately any time you attempt to organize a display of Palestinian documentaries, the pro-Israeli Zionists try to prevent you from displaying them. That has happened in Winnipeg previously.

Hi ridemedic! You've stumbled upon the wrong board. Sadly, it's just not for you. Ciao!

the boycott is in effect as per the wishes of Palestinian society, either it is complied with or violated. In this case hopefully the former.

I wonder if Thomas Mulcair would endorse this demand.  Perhaps someone should ask him, for the record.

NDPP

Yes, definitely they should. And Layton too.

Let's leave this out unless you think it's an election issue. I frown at the holier than thou. Perhaps, those that want to question Jack can lay out for me the alternate position to vote for? Give me a reason, becauase Jack seems to cut it better than those old lib-tory story for me.

NDPP

ah yes the ndp's never fail one trick pony: 'the others are worse'. in the case of Israel they all kiss Zio ass equally shamelessly.

PACBI: Filmmakers Protest Hot Docs Documentary Film Festival Collaboration with CoPro 13

http://www.pacbi.org/etemplate.php?id=1576

"How can Hot Docs live up to its slogan 'Outspoken. Outstanding' if it continues to collaborate with a government that endorses and institutes apartheid policies? Will Hot Docs be outspoken about its complicity with the Israeli state when artists around the world start questioning its actions?"

Shame On Hot Docs Canada - No collaboration with Apartheid Israel! No collaboration with CoPro 13!

I believe its been made crystal clear, judging by the plethora of NDP related choir threads alone, that any urging toward a consistent sense of basic human decency is to be regarded as nothing more than a bothersome holier than thou attitude. At any rate, it seems they're well on their way to purging such malcontents and troublemakers from the ranks of the faithful.

exactly, and as if to prove it, Rabble.ca is giving away free HotDoc tickets to the first lucky babblers to email in...

You'd need a few months' lead time to make that happen.  Pitches don't write themselves.

I'm not attending CoPro13, but I'm not boycotting Hot Docs, either.  I can't afford to - we need the opportunity to pitch Canadian broadcasters as well as look for coproduction opportunities (no, I'm not seeking coproduction with Israel at this time).  This is the point in the funding cycle where you have to find interest in your projects - skipping it could mean a year-long unpaid vacation for a lot of producers.
