You know, I am Jewish. There is an aspect to this post I don't like.
I never see any comments about Catholic MPs voting against abortion with the accompanying comment of good doggies. I am sure I could think of other "identifible minorities" if I put my head to it, but I can't be bothered to be honest.
I get that the Israelis are acting like the South Africans in some ways had, but I don't get these kinds of posts.
Thats my opinion.
Arthur, I think your memory is selective, either that or we haven't had a thread on the Vatican concerning child sexual abuse since you joined, and I highly doubt that. I am certain we could find more colourful exclamatory phrases than "good doggies".
@Tommy_Paine:
I am not saying there isn't an issue. I am saying that I don't like the under current to this thread. That is all I am saying.
Nothin more, nothing less.
I've been away for a while. I read that differently at first. I see your point, now, however.
And I'm suddenly reminded why I avoid threads like these.
Pretend I was never here.
the interview is a reason why I am no longer a member of the NDP... and why I would never vote Liberal.
I ususally avoid these too, but I kind of was drawn to it like a fly to the light.
I'm outta her too!
How disappointing that neither Layton nor Ignatieff will endorse the unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state when so many other governments are ready to do so.
If they should even breathe the word Palestine the JDL and the CJC would be all over their campaign headquarters with bullhorns and pitbulls.
PS. Re previous post: I am Jewish (non-practising) and anti-Zionist. Please don't anyone waste their breath calling me either an anti-semite or a self-hating Jew.
as a chinese person, i dont understand why these particular group of zionists have so much power, anyways i guess its pointless to ask the question. I guess its the same way so many chinese people feel defensive when the chinese government is attacked, how primitive.
NDPPHow disappointing that neither Layton nor Ignatieff will endorse the unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state when so many other governments are ready to do so.
let alone raise Gaza, ethnic cleansing or the Mavi Marmara.
"Canada is so friendly that there is no need to convince or explain anything to anyone.." Avigdor Lieberman
The problem with Layton's answer to that question (essentially, trying to find as warm and fuzzy way of saying "The NDP will not recognize a Palestinian declaration of independence" as possible) is that the entire answer is premised upon the notion that fundamental rights for Palestinians are things which must be first accepted by the Israeli state through negotiations, rather than simply being human rights which everyone should have, but in the case of Palestinians are being infringed upon. Of course, Ignatieff's answer has the same problem as well, and seems worse because he's being more specific and taking a harder line.
not to mention Jacks "we're ready to work with Obama, we're ready to work with Obama's administration, we're very pleased president Obama is taking strong action..." good doggies indeed!
"Would a Liberal or NDP government follow up on Liberal MP and human rights advocate Irwin Cotler’s suggestion to bring Iran up on charges of incitement to genocide in the International Criminal Court?"
This is the most absurd part. Would have been nice to see one of these panderers, simply say "no".
I also don't like the phrase "Good Doggies" in the opening post since there is nothing about Obama and only about Jewish News. To me, it brings up pointlessly negative connotations. No one has written "Good Doggies" when they are appearing at Sikh celebrations this past weekend.
However, I find the use of the phrase apt in post #14. Context is everything; their responses to the questionnaire were equally spineless and evasive, especially Ignatieff's weaselling out of his former statement about Apartheid. Pathetic on both counts..
The Conservatives claim they are going to make major inroads with Jewish voters in this election and be contenders in Mount Royal and other ridings.
And people who aren't prepared to vote should have fuckall to say to those who are trying to bring some dignity to the marginalized and frightened Canadians who would like to see improvement in their lives resulting from this election.
Just sayin'.
voting for my cat will have pretty much the same results.
Just sayin'
That's not the history of social democratic gains in this country, which has been a struggle to get rid of the fat cats - black and white. Looks like one of them could finally be on the way out. But that won't be thanks to the armchair, navel gazing revolutionaries such as yourself.
"Good doggies" good grief, how offensive. And Hoodeet who claimed:
"If they should even breathe the word Palestine the JDL and the CJC would be all over their campaign headquarters with bullhorns and pitbulls."
When was the last time the CJC demonstrated with bullhorns anywhere? The hyperbole on this thread is crazy!
It's not hyperbolic, MCsquared, it's metaphoric: I didn't mean they'd be literally and physically in front of their h.q. with bullhorns and pitbulls. The CJC would be attacking their campaign with their megaphones (people and media who amplify every statement they make) and their attack ads and the JDL would be out with their threatening, streetfighting types. Geez, how literal-minded do you think we all are?
Thanks for the clarification. I must admit though with the possible exception of "Israel apartheid" I have yet to find CJC targeting the use of the word "Palestine". If I am wrong shame on them.
You're welcome, MCsquared. And I stand corrected on my exaggeration re. use of the term "Palestine". The rabid responses are to talk of Palestinian struggle for independence, of humanitarian crises in Gaza, of illegal settlements, of land expropriation and destruction of means of support (olive groves etc), of retaliatory home demolitions, of boycott and divestment, etc. especially if the word "Palestine" or "Palestinian" appears in the same text.
Or the words "apartheid" or "bantustan". Or "1967 borders".
