Can we put the pitchforks back in the barn, please?  I have no problem whatsoever with strategic voting in ridings where there is no other reasonable option.

Fair enough.

And exactly what ridings would that be in this election.  I've been here a few times before in my long life.  NO ONE can predict what is going to happen tomorrow.  Any strategic vote is a guess at best and more likely it is going to produce the exact opposite result than intended.  So this kind of strategic voting message is actually dangerous.  So if it takes a pitchfork to kill it then so be it.

STRATEGIC VOTING IS LIKE PICKING THE KID NEXT DOOR TO BE YOUR CHILD BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT SURE YOUR CHILD WILL COME HOME FROM SCHOOL FIRST.

STICK WITH YOUR FAMILY.

Don't play ignorant, please. There are plenty of ridings which are clear two-way races.

If I were a liberal in Saskatoon Humboldt I think I would be pretty tempted to throw my vote to the NDP if I wanted to prevent the incumbent from getting in. And it is hardly the closest example.

You don't like it fine, but this calling people out into the street like it is some kind of heresy is ridiculous. THere's not a thing wrong with it if you are in a riding where it makes sense to do so,

I agree.  In Saskatchewan, it is strategic to vote NDP in every urban riding except Wascana (where voting Liberal is the strategic vote) and the far north.  This means 10 ridings - the 8 urban/rural splits including Saskatoon/Regina, Prince Albert and Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River.

Again which ridings exactly are those?

Seriously.

I have been around elections for a long time.  When these kind of waves happen you can not even begin to guess where the votes will go and who will suddenly become the contender.  Vote for what you believe.  If that is Liberal in Saskatoon-Humboldt than do it.   Strategic voting is a failed strategy and it keeps getting us elected Conservatives.  Sorry if I find these folks who continue to help elect Conservatives worth derision.

(edit)

I should add, I am counting on some liberals to do exactly that, and vote strategically. That is our best hope at making it over the top in a lot of ridings here.

Guess I am lucky that I don't have to worry about voting "Strategically" in this riding. This is probably the most interesting election I have watched (and I'm over 45). I am hearing about good numbers of Liberals who are voting NDP here this time around. We shall see if it gets really dirty - Davenport has "interesting" increases in voters on election day who seem to vanish before the next time around.

I really have NO feel for what will happen tomorrow. I've been around long enough NOT to hope too hard, so I guess I am ready for whatever, but please, let this carry through and be a success: NDP 1st or 2nd and no Conservative majority.  My American wife is a lot less jaded and suggests she wants and sees an NDP majority. If only SHE could vote this time around.

finois: Not only am I sticking with my family, my 19 year old son is coming into our family, and all the more welcome to him too :) And my wife, when she is legal to vote.

Saskatoon Humboldt, like I said.

Sorry to disappoint you, but i have no problem with it at all. As I said, I am hoping for some strategic votes in our favour tomorrow. It would be kind of hypocritical of me to spit on the idea tonight.

You want to be a purist about it, fine. But it is nobody's business to tell someone else how they should decide to place their vote.

Which is exactly my point.  Folks like Dobbin and Liberal run ProjectDemocracy are telling people how to vote.  It is YOUR vote.  You own it.  It is precious, don't give it over to others who don't have the slightest clue what is right in your riding.  If you want to vote Liberal vote Liberal.  If you think you want to vote NDP to defeat a Conservative do that.  Hell if you want to vote Conservative to defeat the socialist NDP do that.  But people like Dobbin have been given a stage they don't deserve and have abused it.  That is what bothers me.

Since the news reports in the US have been specifically saying that Osama's killing wasn't a joint operation, but Yank only, Harper CAN'T technically take credit for it(if there is, in fact, credit to be taken for it).

Just thought I'd mention that for those wondering if the OBL thing might save Stevie B. at the last.

Well,ain't that sweet.

TSN endorses Stephen Harper and invites viewers to tune into some Sports Radio show that Harper will guest today to talk sports, politics and bin Laden.

Unfortunately,I'll be busy changing my socks.

Yup. Time to extend the right to vote to those under 18 as well.

It also bothers me that the Liberals have basically tried to manipulate and intimidate people into voting for them to stop something worse, and then doing next to nothing to earn any support. I've heard people say time and time again that they want to vote NDP/Green but feel they have to vote Liberal to stop the Conservative. No no NO! Vote for how you feel, and if the Liberal candidate has not earned your support, that is the Liberal's problem, not yours. If the Liberal candidate loses, chances are that candidate was going to lose anyways regardless of your vote.

Even if this costs Liberals a few ridings that go Conservative, for one I think that Conservative losses will more than make up for it. Mostly, with the Liberals defeated and not as visible in the riding as they used to be, that gives space for other parties to organize and be in a position to defeat Conservatives at some point in the future. St. Boniface, Winnipeg South Centre, Churchill River, and Kitchener all come to mind.

Meh, I always thought TSN sucked anyways - too Toronto and US centric. Sportsnet is marginally better.

Ken Burch

They'll probably be bringing up all the times bin Laden didn't get called for icing.
