Killing Resolves Nothing  -  by David Swanson

http://canada.mediamonitors.net/content/view/full/85670

"As we put bin Laden behind us, can we put the degradation of our civil liberties and our representative government, and our honesty, accountability and the rule of law behind us? Can we recover the basic moral decency that we used to at the very least pretend and aspire to?

Imagine the propaganda that the US could make of video footage of a foreign country where the primitive brutes are dancing in the streets to celebrate the murder of a tribal enemy. [and his children or grandchildren too]

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind but the blind people think that they still see. The world looks to them like a Hollywood adventure movie. In these stories, killing someone generally causes a happy ending. That misconception is responsible for piles and piles of corpses to which more will now be added."

Buried at sea...  Yes, George (Victor). How convenient!

Well, isn't that going to satisfy 90% of the world, who are forever convinced that technology and western schemers can alter reality at will.
DNA evidence... which could have been gathered at any time ... and which independent scientist will be allowed to confirm this, EVEN IF the original sample can be confirmed as being from OBL?

Is he really dead ( if he was living next to a major state security building in Pakistan, why not, as someone suggested, living in witness protection on an island resort
somewhere?
Or did he die ages ago and then was kept on ice somewhere until it was time for a strategy shift in international policy?

So OBL may well join the moon landing in the popular imagination.
Democracy Now! has a fairly good round table on this today.
And (perhaps in my desire to have Canada acknowledged somehow - forgive the perverse sentiment) could the timing have been a last-ditch effort to give Harper a boost?   Naaahhh.  Surely we don't matter that much

Hiding in plain sight...

Quote:

The al-Qaida chief was living in a house in Abbottabad that a U.S. administration official said was "custom built to hide someone of significance." The city around 60 miles from the capital Islamabad is a far cry from the remote mountain caves along the Pakistan-Afghanistan tribal border where most intelligence assessments had put bin Laden in recent years.

Critics have long accused elements of Pakistan's security establishment of protecting bin Laden, though Islamabad has always denied this. Ties between the United States and Pakistan have hit a low point in recent months over the future of Afghanistan, and any hint of possible Pakistani collusion with bin Laden could hit them hard even amid the jubilation of getting American's No. 1 enemy.

That bin Laden could be in Abbottabad unknown to authorities "is a bit amazing" says Hamid Gul, a former Pakistani intelligence chief fiercely critical of America's presence in the region. Aside from the military "there is the local police, the Intelligence Bureau, Military Intelligence, the ISI, they all had a presence there."

Residents said the compound was around one kilometer (half a mile) away from the Kakul Military Academy, an army run institution for top officers and one of several military installations in the bustling, hill-ringed town of around 400,000 people.

Where Was Osama On Sept 11, 2001?  -  by Michel Chossudovsky

Our society is truly sick when we are celebrating the death of a living being, period. Especially one who was trained by the West and turned against us. It is obvious it will be a political boost to Obama who is getting way too much credit on this thread. The Democrats are just as much of a problem as the Liberals up here; they pretend to have leftist ideals but that is just their role in the two-party illusion.

They were also dancing and flag-waving outside the US Consulate right here in Toronto. And given the recent murders of  members of the Ghadafi family under the command of a Canadian General, with the support of all our political parties, we can now participate in this thrilling bloodlust a little less vicariously perhaps.

It's bad form to celebrate anyone's death, but I'm not going to get overly critical when it's of a man who's responsible for killing thousands. The celebratory crowds are small (a couple thousand in all of Washington). I was in a bar in Boulder last night when this all went down, and it was mostly all of us staring at the TV in near disbelief.

Will this change anything? Maybe? Al-Qaeda is a hugely decentralized organization, almost a brand, so its hard to tell how much of an asset, outside of morally, Bin Laden was. In practical terms, it might give Obama an out for leaving Afghanistan ... eventually ... while claiming some kind of victory.

Layton Hopes Bin Laden's Death A Turning Point

http://www.torontosun.com/2011/05/02/layton-hopes-bin-ladens-death-a-tur...

"NDP Leader Jack Layton thanked the men and women in uniform shortly after US President Obama announced that Osama Bin Laden was killed in a US raid.

'The New Democratic Party of Canada shares with the world community the hope that the news of the death of Osama Bin Laden marks a turning point in the war on terrorism,' Layton said in a statement issued early Monday morning after news broke that the man responsible for the Sept 11 terrorist attacks was dead.

'The memories of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center where Canadians were counted among the murdered, still linger to this day. Those terrible events will be ingrained on our collective memory forever,' he said. Layton touted 'Canada's role in the international community as a leading contributor to the world's peace, security and prosperity.'

'I offer our deep appreciation to the women and men in uniform who work hard and sacrifice to make the world a safer place,' he said.'"

I wonder if the Americans will follow through on their promise from years ago that they'd wrap the corpse in bacon.

I'm pretty certain that the body has been desecrated in some sort of fashion.

All the talking heads have been saying that the U.S. will have to release photos of the body to prove his death.

But I heard he was shot in the head,so it's not likely he'd be recognized.

And I still find the timing of this to be a little suspect....But I'm going to steer clear of any conspiracies for the moment.

Anyway,in keeping score with 'key' figures who have been murdered since 2002 or 2003....We have Sadam Hussein, his sons and now (allegedly) Osama Bin Laden.

When do Cheney,Bush and Rumsfeld find themselves at the Gallow's?

When do their allies (including those in Ottawa) face a world tribunal?

Sadly,I know the answer...Never.

Buddy Kat

So lets get this straight ..the US military machine gets the biggest prize EVER ..then throws it into the ocean...Pardon the pun ,but this sounds fishy!

I believe they captured bin laden, swabbed his cheek for DNA confirmation and probably have him held in a torture hole trying to extract info on suitcase nukes etc etc.

That or perhaps they did kill him and riddled him with so many bullet holes (1000's) that they don't dare show the barbaric nature of the trigger happy American..as people would say ..what kind of animal does that to another ..then they will figure out how and why they are hated so much and why their terror has just begun...

This... as the Afghan wonders why Americans have destroyed their lives and homes and basically murdered thousand's of their children now and into the future ....when all along binladen was in Pakistan...and they knew it.

Either way the only positive thing out of all this ..are all those old scared paranoid people that vote for Harper cause they are petrified of "The Boogey Man" will now pick their second choice ..
Bye Bye Harper..

Edited to say :  I guess the other positve message is .."if you want the job done right you get a lefty to do it!"  hmmm new slogan?

I like to think he died of natural causes, perphaps some time ago.  They had to ditch his body in the ocean so no-one figures out they didn't do it.

Fidel

I think this bit about DNA testing could be nonsense, too. The USA is world renowned for its criminal investigations. They've made it a science. But, oddly enough, they missed a chance to positively ID 9/11 hijackers at the Pentagon "crash" scene. There were body parts strewn everywhere around the rubble. Conspicuously absent were various jet engine parts and major sections of the plane said to have been vaporized by intense heat of the flames and explosion. And yet there were body parts which were preserved. And there was office furniture and other artifacts, highly combustible office furniture etc which survived incinerating temperatures.

Like so much evidence from the JFK assassination locked away from the public until 2029, I highly doubt that the American people will be entrusted with evidence concerning Osama bin Laden, his life or death or much of anything else concerning the truth about 9/11 anytime soon. The USA's are the most secretive governments in world history. Secrecy in government and democracy are two different themes incompatible with the other as a general rule of thumb.

There were glorious opportunities for the Gladio gang to have murdered OBL before, ten years ago apparently. The US and French militaries could have killed OBL according to various sources. I really don't believe that al-Qaeda exists. Qaeda is an intelligence operation that began toward the end of the cold war era in Afghanistan and Pakistan and was just never officially ended. Whistleblowers in America say that US taxpayers are still funding the madrassa system in Central Asia. And they are still funding terrorism. The corruption runs deep with US State Dept officials accused of selling nuclear weapons secrets to rogue states. This is what happens to an empire in decline. It's everyone for themselves nowadays.

Kara

One can hardly be surprised that they would use this action for propaganda purposes, playing it as if this action justifies their mistreatment, torture, murder, etc. of countless people.

Also not surprising is that shortly after the death of one bogey man, they have another bogey man lined up to justify the continuation of their warmongering.  Nothing will change and the murder, torture and destruction will continue as before.

The celebrations are quite sickening.  I am most definitely not sad about OBL's demise but the gleeful jubilation is over the top - add a few cheerleaders and you might think you're watching the supporters of a Super Bowl winning team celebrating a big victory.

The death penalty is wrong in all cases with no exceptions, but even more so without a fair trial.  Most definitely a trial would have been problematic but an assassination is not justice.  However, stopping OBL from sharing information was more important to them than justice anyway.

As much as I despise Harper, "sober satisfaction" is right (even if I don't believe for a minute that he or any of the other members of the teeny weenie crowd didn't get a thrill from the news).

alan smithee alan smithee's picture

It's interesting that if they were that close to bin Laden that they couldn't have taken him alive.

I think that would have been far more effective.

But this stinks.

Not only did they kill him but they immediately buried him at sea.

This is very suspicious.

So where does the focus now fall on to?..Who is the new bogeyman?

I don't doubt for a moment that this 'celebration' will be temporary.

I'm not Nostradamus but I see some very bad things in the oncoming horizon.

There is no proof that Osama bin Laden orchestrated 9/11. Before she was assassinated, Benazir Bhutto reported that Osama bin Laden was murdered and that she knew the identity of his killer, the same person who claimed to have murdered Daniel Pearl, a Wall Street news journalist. Omar Saeed Sheikh was identified as a 9/11 paymaster a number of years ago. He's supposed to have been beheaded for his role in wiring tens of thousands of dollars to lead hijacker Mohamed Atta, but he is still there in a Pakistani prison, and no one knows why. And he almost started a war between India and Pakistan from his jail cell. Omar Saeed Sheikh has been linked to British and Pakistani intelligence. In fact, a number of high ranking "al-Qaeda" members have been working for the west all along.

There have been a number of other patsies since then. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is the latest "9/11 mastermind." KSM was, in fact, one of their own "freedom fighters" trained in terrorism and guerilla warfare before going to Afghanistan in the 1980s. al-Qa'eda is really al-CIA'da.

I found this info on another web site, thought I'd share it here and then I'm done with this thread.

After Bin Laden was killed his body was immediately flow to the USS Carl Vinson operating in the Northern Arabian Sea. There in the carrier's medical facility, a team was waiting to confirm his ID and document it (photos, DNA and all that other stuff). After the team was done with the ID process his body was turned over to a Muslim detail that washed his body, wrapped it in white cloth and then... because his body was now on a ship at sea, buried him at sea... all within the followings of Islam. Of course this whole thing was probably thought out long go and it's no coincidence this process left no grave site for whatever reason you care to attach to it.

OBL is dead and gone and, like everyone eles here, will face judgment whenever if you believe in that sort of stuff. If you don't, well, he's just dead and gone then.

I guess he got what he wanted in the end... death in a shoot out with the great Satan.
