The brother of a friend from the 1950s contacted me last week and it's been just incredible catching up. I knew his family in the late 1950s, and then we moved, and it's been 51 years Surprised since my last contact with them.

I disagree.

It's nice that people can reconnect like this. My mother took in a young girl who ran away from home when she was young in the 1960s or so. Mum and dad took care of her until she left in her late teens. She never contacted my parents for years. And then one day about two years before mum passed away, the woman now living in B.C. dropped in to say hello to mum. They talked all weekend. It really made them happy to reacquaint like that.

I have a couple of school reunions coming up, so looks like I'll be visiting Ottawa in June of 2012, and I'll be meeting friends from the 1950s for the first time  since 1959. Maybe meet a few babblers too.

That's the babble spirit!

I'm of two minds.

D'arcy McGee's at Sparks St? I can't wait to do another one of those ghost walks downtown on a warm evening.

I'll try to keep that in mind. I've 12 months to plan!  I'll probably stay at the Quality Hotel at the corner of Rideau and King Edward - there's a resto/bar on the ground floor, unless things have changed?  And I'll likely have a rental car, because I have a lot of places to be, including out in Manotick and Merrickville, as well as Ottawa.

I'm not sure if QH is still there or not. Haven't been to Ottawa since visiting my sister and her hubby at Christmas.

Been to Manotick a few times. Bought a pair of Merrell hiking shoes there. Nice place.  Merrickville once.

I'm going over to Hull as well, to check out house and apartment prices, in case I decide to move sometime in the future. I already know Ottawa's too expensive. Frown

Fidel

Yes I think Gatineau would be less expensive. And you'd be right across the ditch from Ottawa anyway. I love that whole downtown area. And you're not very far from nature at the same time. I'd never been to a Blues Fest at Lebreton Flats before until a couple of summers ago. Took my 13 year-old nephew to see KISS. It was ... fun? And a bit loud. I think I enjoyed the other less well known bands a bit more qho played before those guys.

KISS at a blues fest? Does not compute. (thanks for reminding me it's Gatineau now, not Hull)

Fidel

I know. I was never wild about their music when I was younger. The nephews like guitar and any music from the 60s and 70s. They wanted to see Santana at a blues fest. I couldn't get tickets. So we smuggled some pop and chips into a pirate movie at the cineplex. Arrr!

Santana - there's a band I'd love to see.

Freedom, freedom
Get up stand up, let's celebrate
Freedom, talking about freedom
This is the time for redemption
Freedom, don't you want freedom for everybody
This is the time for liberation
Freedom, don't you want freedom for your children
