Obama's Illegal War Against Libya  - by Patrick Martin

http://www.wsws.org/articles/2011/jun2011/pers-j08.shtml

"...Even George W Bush sought and obtained congressional resolutions of support before launching his wars of aggression in Afghanistan and Iraq. Obama is the first US president to engage in a major war without even attempting to gain such a declaration of support in the legislative branch..."

Emperor Obama vs the Arab people

Quote:

Obama's attempt to deny the hatred that Arabs feel towards the United States and Israel because of the actions of these two countries is nothing short of the continued refusal of the United States and Israel (not of Arabs) to take responsibility for their own actions by shifting the blame for the horrendous violence they have inflicted on the region onto their very victims. When Obama and Israel call on Arabs to take responsibility for the state of the region and not blame the US and Israel for it, what they are essentially doing is to refuse to take responsibility for what they have inflicted on Arabs.

Arabs have clearly taken responsibility and have been trying to remove the dictators that the US and Israel have supported for decades - and which they continue to support. The only parties refusing to take responsibility here are the United States and Israel. Obama's speech, sadly, continues this intransigent tradition.

You know the Democrats have really fucked up when the reactionary, ossified union bureaucracy starts criticizing them from the left.

Fat cat bureaucrat Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, speaking at a nurses' conference on Thursday, tore strips off the Democrats and Obama, calling for an "independent labor movement strong enough to return balance to our economy, fairness to our tax system, security to our families and moral and economic standing to our nation."

Quote:
“For too long, we’ve been left after Election Day holding a canceled check, waving it about—‘Remember us? Remember us? Remember us?’—asking someone to pay a little attention to us,” recalled Trumka, who like many union leaders was frustrated with the failure of the Obama administration and Democrats in Congress to pass the Employee Free Choice Act and other needed labor law reforms. “Well, I don’t know about you, but I’ve had a snootful of that shit!”

It remains to be seen whether Trumka and the rest of the union brass establishment will put their money where their mouth is and call for the formation of an independent labour party.

The Obama Doctrine: Lawless Imperial Aggression (part 1)  - by Stephen Lendman

http://www.countercurrents.org/lendman110611A.htm

"...an out of control agenda for American dominance, using missiles, bombs, ground troops and assassination squads to indiscriminately slaughter civilians, including women, children or elderly, virtually anyone - in raging wars he opposed as a candidate..

The Obama Doctrine: Lawless Imperial Aggression (part 2)  - by Stephen Lendman

http://www.countercurrents.org/lendman110611B.htm

"...This article considers prospects for more war, notably in the Middle East against Yemen, Syria and perhaps Iran, possibly escalating into general war that could, in fact, spin out of control with nuclear weapons introduced openly for the first time since WWII. At stake is humanity and/or a fit world to live in..."

Progressive Poopyheads   -  by Arthur Silber

http://powerofnarrative.blogspot.com/2011/06/progressive-heroes-poopyhea...

"...with regard to the actions and policies to which the progressives had claimed to be so passionately opposed, their willingness to dance to the new tune means exactly what I said a few years ago:

'virtually everything the Democrats and progressives claimed to be their fervent concern was merely instrumental: that is, they staked out the positions they did for their perceived political advantage, and for the assistance these positions would provide in regaining and consolidating power.

In the end that was the ONLY goal, the only purpose toward which everything else was directed: the achievement and maintenance of power...The Washington Democrats know you will continue to vote for them no matter what they do."

Obama Joins Club of the Super-Rich – Defends Global Capitalism in Lecture - Part 1

Prof. Leo Panitch and Paul Jay discuss Obama’s Mandela lecture; Obama wants the impossible – a world where the super-rich give up “a little” and there is no massive inequality

quote:

PAUL JAY: Yeah. The contradiction with his speech- and this is, it reminds me of something Bill Clinton did, which is Obama seems very aware of how the system works. He has a big picture. I once saw- the reason I refer to Bill Clinton is when Chavez was at the United Nations and did the ‘I smell sulfur’ speech, Clinton happened to be in Toronto. And a CBC interviewer asked him what he thought of Chavez’s speech, because it created such a kerfuffle here, insulting George Bush, the president in the United States, which a foreign dignitary, in theory, is not supposed to do. And Clinton said, well, you know, that was too much, offending everyone like that. But he says, Chavez could have given a critique of the kind of economic policies that the United States supported in Latin America.

And then Clinton went on to give one of the best critiques of neoliberal economics and how it screwed up Latin America I’ve ever heard. A really good, fact-based critique. Of course not saying these were his policies. These guys are very, very aware of how the system works.

LEO PANITCH: Very aware. They are pragmatic. They are pragmatic, and they decided as very young men, open to the same type of influence as you and I were, Paul, they decided as very young men that you couldn’t get out of this system. They of course, also, were highly ambitious. And that, with their ambition and their pragmatism, led them to embrace a system in which there is this type of fundamental inequality of power, and attempt to, as he did as a, as an organizer of the poor in Chicago. What he used to do was he would bring poor women from the Southside into a boardroom where the elite of the Democratic Party establishment in Illinois would sit. He’d put them in a room. He’d say, work out a solution, and walk out the door, as if you could work out a solution that way. And they would throw some crumbs at those poor women.
