The Communists were right to actively suppress religion.

The United States Air Force has been citing Christian teachings in its missile officer training sessions by referencing passages from the New Testament, according to recently released documents under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Reports show the mandatory Nuclear Ethics and Nuclear Warfare session, which takes place during a missile officer’s first week in training, is led by Air Force chaplains and includes a discussion on St. Augustine’s Christian “Just War Theory.” Also included in the PowerPoint presentation is a slide containing a passage from the Book of Revelation that attempts to explain how Jesus Christ, as the “mighty warrior,” believed war to be “just.”

The presentation goes on to say that there are “many examples of believers [who] engaged in wars in [the] Old Testament” in a “righteous way” and notes there is “no pacifistic sentiment in mainstream Jewish history.”

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), an advocacy group that watches for signs of religious bias in the military, said more than thirty Air Force officers, a majority of whom describe themselves as practicing Protestants and Roman Catholics, have contacted their group in hopes of working together to have the Christian-themed teachings removed from the Nuclear Ethics and Nuclear Warfare training session.

The [url=http://www.centerforinquiry.net/news/cfi_condemns_use_of_religious_mater... for Inquiry[/url], which wrote the above, apparently has nothing to say about the morality of war; they seem to object only to the use of religious doctrine to justify it. They'd probably be happy if quotes from Christopher Hitchens were used instead.

The linked material obtained under Freedom of Information is quite interesting. The US military is quite concerned to make sure that their soldiers' moral conscience won't get in the way of using weapons of mass destruction. The important thing is to believe in "the mission". This makes it impossible for anyone to maintain that "supporting the troops" is different from "supporting the mission".

The Center for Inquiry is delighted that the indoctrination of Air Force officers as psychotic killers will continue without reference to religious doctrine.

LOL, oh yeah, I'm going to enjoy this thread. The code is utterly meaningless; most US soldiers are clueless about bible verse numbering or whatever you call it and could give a fuck about it. The only people that would care about this stuff are the idiot evangelicals that put the stuff on the sights and the people that want to cry about it because it supports some agenda of theirs. So grab the ball and run with it guys... But be careful, maybe JEEEsus will smite you with a fart induced fire ball from his ass or better yet a 7.62 bullet fired from a magical scoped weapon... Ha Ha Ha

Anyway clearly their praying hasn't helped their preying - and their warmaking losing streak shows no sign of abating... CAW CAW Cool

Bec you are nasty in your defence of the indefensible. Attacking people for pointing out the outrageous is hardly talking about an issue from a progressive point of view.

You may find the Xian influence over the largest and best financed imperial army a joke but I am sure it is not to any of the families of the people being murdered daily by American assholes.

NS lighten up. I wasn't defending this (the markings), not in the least bit and I wasn't attacking any one here. If anything I mocked evangelistically Christianity... you must have missed that part (strangely enough). Stuff like this (putting biblical markings on this stuff) just makes me shake my head. I'm just pointing out to anyone here who will listen the markings mean nothing to 99% of the soldiers using the equipment. Not a very popular point of view here, I know, but it's the truth and using this as proof that every US soldier thinks he's fighting for a Christian Crusade is inaccurate to say the very least.

Perhaps you took that as defending putting the marks on the scopes or whatever... I don't know. If you want to make a big deal out of this (the markings) go for it and I'd be more than glad to carry on with that subject matter. But it seems to me you're trying to divert the thread from the topic of the markings to a broader political forum and are trying to drag me along with you... sorry man, I won't be coming along for that trip I like to stick to the subject matter of the thread I post in.

I sticking to my guns here: those marking don't mean ditty shit to the vast majority of the soldiers using that equipment. It really dosn't prove anything aside from the people that put them on are idiots (in my opinion).

So what exactly does what soldiers think or don't think have to do with this thread again?  I thought it was about the intentions of the people doing it.  I don't believe anyone here every said all soldiers believe it.  Just another red herring combined with an insult.

Ummm, not people here, the article had this in it...

'Firearms of Jesus Christ'

"It allows the Mujahedeen, the Taliban, al Qaeda and the insurrectionists and jihadists to claim they're being shot by Jesus rifles," he said.

I was referring to that... doing dumb shit like this reinforces this thinking with some people (didn't really say people here, you assumed that) It's a false perception that most soldiers believe in stuff like that and that's what that has to do with that (what soldiers think).

Glad I could clear that up for you. The internet can be a lousy medium to convey ones thoughts sometimes in the proper context.

As for insults' stop pretending to be so thin skinned... sheeez I was thinking more about the religious "opposites" of the Christian evangelicals "crying" about this and then you jump in all offended and stuff... Wow. I didn't take you as a religious type.  You learn something new every day

Have a great evening.

I'm not sure why anyone finds this surprising.  After all, there are plenty of sites that sell gun oil made with bacon fat.  They've been around for a long time.

Bec I guess I need to stop seeing the obvious in your posts and look for the arcane because you sure seem to have the crab walk down pat.
