Some people never learn...
Ex-Ottawa mayor O'Brien says "Scott Walker ( Governor of Wisconsin ) is my hero!"
http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=668696846
"Scott Walker ( Governor of Wisconsin ) is my hero! I wish we had a Provincial leader with the courage to take on the Public Sector Unions in Ontario. Making Union membership optional and rolling back wages in the Public sector is THE ONLY solution to the deficit."
"I think in a democracy workers should be able to choose if they want to be members. Particularly when Unions play such a big role in elections by financially supporting the NDP and some Liberals. I agree . He is doing what the left kept me from doing in Council. Scott Walker could end up as President and Rob could end up as Premier."
"The pendulum has swung to far in favour of the Unionized Public sector. The question I ask is who is behind the public sector Unions? I suspect we will find that it is not a democratic organization....I guess it is a battle between democracy and socialism."
I remember the day this guy was elected and also the satisfaction I felt when he was kicked out of office. And now we hear his charming and candid views on public sector unions. I wonder how many other conservative Canadian politicians are getting pumped up by what is going on in Wisconsin?
This guy is priceless!
Feb 6th:
"Is anyone is worried about Egypt and Islamic socialism? I think we have to be worried that they have a common goal, and that is to disrupt our way of life. The brotherhood and the Unions will work it all out later ?"
Reading his facebook posts and the droves of aggresive yes-men is like reading a parody of conservative thought!
Wow. Even Sam Katz in Winnipeg was able to negotiate the recent budget with CUPE without leading to a strike.
People wouldn't believe that guy, O'Brien. He's a total moran. Just goes to show how out to lunch they are in Ottawa in general. It's like this across Canada, really. I think city politics should be backed by major parties. That way voters might have a better idea of who they're dealing with and what they are about.
To be fair, they didn't elect him a second time once they had a taste of his brand of "Zero means Zero" nonsense.
We Ottawans were genuinely shocked to see Rob Ford elected in Toronto so soon after O'Brien was completely discredited. They are both the same brand of pseudo-"common-man" swaggering right-wing clods.
Now that's the Larry we knew and loathed for four years. He had me worried when he wrote an op-ed in the Citizen recently, arguing that the city needed to take a more conciliatory approach to dealing with the transit union.
I was an Ottawan for about nine years. Good people. They didn't deserve O'Brien same as Torontonians don't deserve Ford. My home town in the North has a local clique you wouldn't believe. Crooks and liars! And those are their good points.
6 Republican state senators (including Wisconsin) face recall today; polls close at 8pm; heavy turnout today in Wisconsin. Two Democrats next week.
Looks like Walker's job may be safe - GOP winning most races in Wisconsin tonight so far.
All six Senate seats in Wisconsin had Republican incumbents. This link with (I think) live results shows that 2 Republican incumbents have gone down to defeat and a third race is 51%-49% so far.
Walker can't be recalled until he has served a full year - so he can still do more damage, and I think he did something tooday that will be challenged in court. There's big money at play to keep Walker in power - from the Koch Brothers I believe - because Walker is their puppet.
Wow. People still listen to what O'Brian has to say?
My guess is he's pretty chuffed about being mentioned by [url=http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/news/2012/01/31/former-ottawa-mayor-twe... News[/url].
O'Brien is an idiot. Can never keep himself out of trouble for more than a few minutes.
This shows why he lost to Jim Watson by such a large margin.
Wisconsin State Senator Says Women Are Paid Less Because 'Money Is More Important For Men'
Say what???
ETA: my mother worked hard all her life, sometimes two jobs at once, while keeping the family together. Sometimes at lower pay scales than her male counterparts. Those days should be history by now.
In other words he is saying women are paid less becuase they want to be.
Wow. That guy should be put in a museum.
