After all he's Butcher Bouchard's boss.

Well, sort of.

In Canada, the Guvnah Genral is the de jure Commander-in-Chief of Canadian forces, so it complicates things a bit.

If Canadians start to publicly protest the war on Libya and if Canadians write to their representatives, the pressure is still going to be on the same man to either (hopefully) disengage or escalate the war on Libya.

That man is Herr Harper - to whom the thought that a war could exist that he wouldn't like is inconceivable.

The only way Herr Harper is not going to escalate is if enough Canadians raise their voice loud enough before he puts this (yet another War Resolution) before the House.

His political future has to be put at risk before he'll change his mind on escalation.

That is if he even allows a vote on it.

Last time (the decision to escalate the Afghan War to 2014 and deploy ~1,000 additional troops) he did it by "royal" Prime Ministerial "decree."

Just like Obama and his decision to enter America in the war on Libya. A war that lasted beyond the 60 days required by legislation before putting it to a vote to Congress.

From the above quote:

Combine that with the lie that we are there to 'protect civilians.'

1. A government in power under Gadaffi; or

2. A government 'bombed into power' by NATO; or

3. A Western-style elected government; which plan, from the onset of the rebel uprising, the African Union had stated in a detailed plan and Gadaffi had accepted.

Now, since number 1 is history, and number 2 is being resisted in a civil war six months on - and - no one on the NATO side had permitted option 3, than we are left wtih choices 1 or 2...

This is in no way a war in Libya about or for 'democracy'. Plain and simple - this is an imperialist and neo-colonial war, and one heavily motivated by the desire for the control and domination of Libyan oil."

Libya Air War to End Within 3 Months: Canadian General

"However, after a six-month-old air war, the Canadian general said progress towards NATO's final goal would be largely 'based on NTC forces on the ground...and also on the will of the regime forces to continue.' The big coastal cities of Tripoli, Benghazi and Misrata were all now 'back to normal' and the 'rule of law and order has been restored,' he said."

M. Spector M. Spector's picture

[url=http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/world/sirte-civilians-accuse-nato-o... civilians accuse NATO of genocide[/url]

Civilians pouring out of the besieged city of Sirte accused NATO of committing genocide yesterday as revolutionary forces reinforced their numbers and prepared for a new attack on Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's home town.

Long lines of civilian vehicles were seen leaving after a night punctuated by NATO air attacks. Forces fighting for the National Transitional Council (NTC) added their own artillery and mortar rounds at regular intervals.

Civilians, many looking scared or sullen, said that conditions inside Sirte were "disastrous". They made claims which, if verified, offer a conundrum for Nato, which operates with a UN mandate on the need to protect civilian life.

"It has been worse than awful," said Riab Safran, 28, as his car was searched by revolutionary fighters. His family had been sleeping on the beach, he said.

"They have hit all kinds of buildings: schools, hospitals," he said, referring to NATO airstrikes.

He said he could not distinguish between NATO and NTC attacks but believed it was a NATO bomb that destroyed part of his home on Saturday. NATO said it hit a number of military targets including a rocket launcher, artillery, and three ammunition stores.

Another resident said: "NATO bombing is killing civilians. Where is the United Nations? Where is the Muslim world to stop this genocide of the people of Sirte?"

NATO violated that "U.N. mandate" (UNSCR 1973) the instant it:

1. Made all of Libya's airspace a No-Fly Zone.

2. Went on the offensive (War of Aggression) when NATO aircraft ranged Libya's skies and attacked antiaircraft missiles and guns located in or near cities that were too far away to shoot any hostile planes down. Later this was expanded to include military and civilian (communications infrastructure) targets of opportunity. Thus entering the Libyan rebellion/civil war and choosing the side of the rebels.

3. Attacked Tripoli which was never attacked or under the threat of attack by Gadhafi forces because it was held by the Libyan (Gadhafi) government until recently captured by rebel forces.

4. Bombed Gadhafi's home thereby indicating that NATO had entered the regime change business.

Money to Explode  -  by Craig Murray

http://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2011/09/money-to-explode/

"Yesterday saw the heaviest NATO attack of the entire war, on the very centre of Sirte, leading thousands of civilians to try to flee. They are largely unable to do so because of a cordon of checkpoints set up by their attackers,..This massive bombing was coordinated with what we must now call the Libyan government - the former TNC.

That a military action by NATO rationalized as protecting civilians from the Libyan government, ends up with a far greater bombardment of civilians on behalf of a different Libyan government, is too terrible to call ironic.

NATO's mandate to 'protect civilians, from the UN, actually expires on Friday, so all this week we will see a massive crescendo in NATO bombing of towns before that deadline.

NATO members are at the absolute heart of the world financial crisis. The colossal squandering of incredible - and in some cases unaccountable - sums in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya are fundamental to the lack of fiscal control in these economies.

Not a single media pundit has mentioned it."

"The Washington-led decision by NATO to bomb Gaddafi's Libya into submission over recent months, at an estimated cost to US taxpayers of at least $1 Billion, has little if anything to do with what the Obama administration claims was a mission to 'protect innocent civilians.'

In reality it is part of a larger strategic assault by NATO and by the Pentagon in particular to entirely control China's strategic dependence on large volumes of imported crude oil and gas.

NATO's Libya campaign was and is all about oil. But not about simply controlling Libyan high-grade crude because the USA is nervous about reliable foreign supplies. It rather is about controlling China's free access to long-term oil imports from Africa and from the Middle East. In other words, it is about controlling China itself..."
