I just finished reading this on the ndp.ca web site. It was issued Nov. 3:

Today, NDP Leader Nycole Turmel accused Stephen Harper of putting Canadians’ safety at risk with his expensive Prisons Agenda, to the detriment of police forces and other workers who respond to emergencies in communities.

The New Democrat Leader also criticized the Conservatives’ omnibus crime bill (C-10) which burdens Provinces with astronomical costs, which the largest provinces have refused to pay for.
"Largest"??? Interesting way of drawing attention to the fact that of the two NDP provincial governments, one (Nova Scotia) hasn't spoken out at all, while the other (Manitoba) is an ardent supporter of C-10. But they're not "large", so what the heck.
The New Democrats will ensure that these provinces have a strong voice in Ottawa.

Turmel also condemned the government’s threat to withdraw RCMP services from British Colombia, which would clearly put the safety of communities at risk.
“Apparently, for Stephen Harper, everything is an essential service except police officers in communities,” said Turmel.

By the way, in case anyone believes Ken's statement that Nova Scotia has "objected" to Harper's crime bill, see [url=http://www.news957.com/news/local/article/295161--ottawa-should-share-co..., where the NDP justice minister was proposing to work out a cost-sharing arrangement with the feds to deal with the increased court traffic.
Not exactly like the the all-party unanimous motion in the National Assembly calling for the bill to be withdrawn.
But then, I'm no expert on NS politics, so we'll wait for Ken to interpret this for us.

It may have just been this week that the Premeir made his pitch [or late last week?]. But it was in print and broadcast media.
The focus last week here was on the second of 3 pulp mills we have- our largest industrial sector- announcing they were closing. What is the government doing about it? What will you do about the highest caost- power rates? Oh, and you say you have known for months.... what were you doing? Etc. And guaranteed that bringing up another issue, that focuses on Ottawa, would have been read as an attempt to deflect.

It's part of the same impressive strategy employed when it comes to military affairs. The right equipment and material for the right missions. Being ready and kept up to date with the latest stuff is half the battle, because you just never know when the next Libya type mission might crop up. And who could really argue at the federal level when the NSNDP have already salivated over the benefits. Fraticide is such an ugly business. I think such mind melding results are inevitable when people dedicate themselves to the task of working together for the good of the country. It's about putting people to work after all....the skills and labour, the government and opposition, Federal and Provincial. We're talking about a coast to coast endeavour in these economic times, with room to spare at the grindstone for everyone's nose.

The BC NDP is fine with that and many people in BC would be glad to see the backside of the RCMP. With the Highway of Tears and the Pig Farm and the never ending series of deaths in small towns while in PIG custody has meant that the average citizen is not impressed.
The federal NDP also thinks that the PIGS responsible for the litany above should go around the world and teach other neo-fascists how to do policing PROPERLY.
