An Irishmen,  one should add, by the name of James Connolly, understood the harmfulness of such fratricidal butchery, and did so in 1916 before Vlad Lenin figured things out in 1917, and suggested to his countrymen and women that the guns the government provides should be aimed at the regime itself. "Shoot the government", Connolly might have said, and his only failure was that he did not succeed in his audacious approach. 

It explains too, why the British authorities, outraged at such anti-war sentiment, summarily executed and shot the injured Connolly in his wheelchair.
