I"m glad many people are opposing directions of NATO/G8, hopefully beyond Chicago and Illinois.
The fora linked at the Chicago Spring site look good.
The subject of one event was "Why This Isn't Scary: Anarchy, Communism, Socialism, and The Black Bloc."
Without definitions, its difficult to know what exactly they're talking about, however I'd agree that, for example, a 'Communism' that includes 'Marxist Leninism' is perhaps initially more silly and counter-productive, because so many people know from personal and family experience what Lenin did. Where these people refuse to take time to dialogue, and instead simply ignore movements welcoming a 'Communism' promoting Lenin, the effect overall is to limit entire movements to the margins. Protesters participating with Leninists need to dialogue, with open and public resolution of differences, voiced clearly and frequently, especially in a city like Chicago with so many survivors of the horror of Lenin et al.
Otherwise what does become scary is the victory of forces which are happy when movements for peace and justice are limited from influencing mainstream society enough to create change.

A coalition of Occupy Wall Street groups and community groups joined up to protest Rahm Emanuel's recent visit to a Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett fundraiser. The demonstrators are angry with Rahm Emanuel's recent budget cuts, civil liberty stifling ordinances for the upcoming NATO Summit, and refusal to issue a protesting permit to groups for the opening day of the Summit. They also are upset Rahm has cut vital public services while purchasing millions of dollars worth of paramilitary riot gear also for the NATO Summit. The group marched around the venue where Rahm was speaking and event tried to enter the venue but were blocked from entering by the Milwaukee Police Department. The protestors tried to negotiate with Police but were not allowed access.

NATO GAME OVER: non-violent intervention teams from ten European countries shut down NATO
Today, about 500 peace activists from more than ten European countries will take part in an action to shut down NATO headquarters in Evere, Brussels in a nonviolent intervention. When peace is at stake, nonviolent intervention is necessary. NATO is a select club of countries that globally wages war, deploys nuclear weapons and is prepared to use them in a first strike. This military alliance is a danger for world peace. On May 20th and 21st, the heads of government of NATO member states will gather in Chicago. Today’s nonviolent intervention sends them a clear message: NATO creates more problems than it solves.
Civil disobedience
NATO GAME OVER is an action of civil disobedience. Nonviolent intervention teams will enter the NATO area in order to prevent a more serious crime, the preparation of war crimes. The intervention teams will seal gates, windows and doors. The perimeter will be marked out with red and white hazard tape. Supporters will gather opposite the main entrance of NATO headquarters, to cheer on the intervention teams. Delegations from Germany, the Netherlands, France, UK, Finland, Sweden, Turkey, Italy, Portugal and Spain will be taking part in the action alongside Belgian activists....
They all have a clear message for the government leaders who are meeting in Chicago for the NATO Summit on May 20th and 21st: “We do not want a missile defence shield, We do not want NATO soldiers in Libya or Afghanistan, We do not want dangerous, useless and illegal nuclear weapons”.
Remove nuclear weapons
NATO’s deterrence and defense strategy will prove to be a difficult issue. Since the last NATO summit in November 2010, the alliance has been looking for “the appropriate mix of nuclear, conventional and missile defense forces”, under the NATO Deterrence and Defence Posture Review. NATO member states will need to agree on the future role of the approximately 200 American tactical nuclear weapons that are still deployed in five European countries. NATO bureaucracy is keen on maintaining the status quo.
However, nuclear weapons cannot be used without violating international humanitarian law and their deployment is a preparation of war crimes. These weapons do not serve any military purpose, and a majority of European citizens want them removed. NATO must overcome Cold War thinking, re-adjust its nuclear policy and withdraw these nuclear weapons. A failure to do so will be an obstacle for further nuclear disarmament.

In Chicago, NATO-secretary general Rasmussen wants to decide on the priorities for the further expansion of NATO’s military intervention apparatus. The war in Afghanistan proves the failure of military intervention. Under the pretext of ‘Responsibility to Protect’, NATO attacked Libya to force a profitable regime change. The war left Libya a fragmented country, where armed militias struggle for power.

99% solidarity is excited to participate in nonviolent direct actions in Chicago from May 18 to 22, 2012. We have secured buses to bring people to these actions from several U.S cities.

History, when taken from the point of view of the oppressed, might help to clarify Lenin's significant place in it. Two faced imperialism attempted to deny to Russians what they insisted on for Germany in 1918, which was the overthrow of the monarchy, cousins no less of that useless chap in Buckingham Palace at the time. The concept of a world wide revolt and a new and universal form of economy that didn't have to divert the bulk of its production into defending itself from such parasites was a solid one at the time. New forms of thought have since emerged of course, which had the merit of bringing forward new questions for consideration about how such an economy and globalized society would ultimately differ from what it sought to replace.

anyone could see that theoretically, some self-described 'socialists' and 'communists' had some good ideas. definitions of 'socialist' and 'communist' are very diverse; and it is wrong to give any 'ism' carte blanche, particularly at a site that purports to value human rights. it is also wrong to describe history without considering the diverse experience of peoples living under the control of Russia at the time.

it is also wrong for police to attack peaceful dissent, to use sound cannons, lasers, intimidation, arbitrary arrests, batons, physical assault,or any other aggression, as it was wrong for Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin, and those under them, to attack civilians who didn't agree with their 'isms'. dialogue, rather than aggression. many wrongs don't make a 'right', nor a 'left', only much suffering all 'round.
