noticed this on a twitter feed - the line outside the cbc fully an hour before the doors open:
looking good. man, this is shaping up to be a bruiser of a fight, that's for sure.

Has Singh been disciplined? Will he make an apology at the debate? (I recall this was being discussed on the leadership thread)
i don't really like barbara yaffe, but so far so good.
watching here, ashton a little looser, but still overly scripted, exact same message.
singh sounds pretty good, actually, brings up pharmacare again, stumbles at the end and mentions business experience
mulcair sounds good as usual, but reading too much. cullen is near-inspiring, though shouldn't have said "audacious" or "a more perfect and beautiful union", that's no good.
paul dewar is bungled the name of the mp from laurier-sainte marie, i don't know what people see in him.
Dewar not cutting it, not even sure he was in BC - ha!
Agreed - too bad Mulcair was reading opening remarks too much
nash and topp pretty good.
paul dewar is bungled the name of the mp from laurier-sainte marie, i don't know what people see in him.
Yeah, one would have thought that over time, he would have managed to get the pronunciation of "Hélène Laverdière" right—especially since he tries to plug that name every opportunity he gets. But somehow, today's attempt was even more mangled...
Topp is talking a lot faster in this debate than he has in the past. It works for him; he gets more in that way.
Yeah, bad stumble for Dewar - looked like an idiot.
I'm not a fan of Barbara Yaffe. Oh well, better than some of the other BC columnists that never write anything complimentary about the NDP.
topp trying to revive his campaign with a great performance, speaking directly to the ndp youth, i like it. mulcair answers with a much more long term solution, not necessarily the best strategy, but definitely good to hear.
singh is smart, yaffe is obstructive and annoying.

Pathetic. His French has so disappointed me.
How does Ashton come from the Jack Layton generation? She's 30 years younger than Layton was....
Interesting contrast between Mulcair's and Topp's response - Topp being specific about support for arts community whereas Mucair took the national approach. Although topp answered the question Mulcair's response was prime ministerial.
ashton sounds like a robot, yaffe is way worse than dumont.
cullen is coming in with another wacky bc idea, just the sort of thing that people love.
Yaffe's interruptions are hectoring and disrupting the flow here... who invited her in??
Singh's opening statement - national pharmacare again. At least Ashton didn't repeat 'new politics' again.
Wow, why is it so much more annoying when the Vancouver moderator interrupts than it was when the Halifax and Montreal ones did?
The generation that grew up with Jack as leader. It's trite, but tight.
Nash is tighter in this debate than she has often been in this race.
I really enjoy Nathan Cullen's responses a lot. They cut through the jargon, which for me is far more exciting than platitudes. Sometimes I think he has the greatest potential to excite a broad base of young people.
Agreed Yaffe needs to chill a bit -perhaps her Liberal biases are showing.
nash sounds convincing, but talking about salmon is kind of a bit off. she's really talking to a very specific element of the ndp, not necessarily the young ndpers.
paul dewar is just a bad salesman.
Now the fun begins - candidate to ask questions of other candidate
You've obviously never been to a salmon party. Young people love salmon.
Good question from Nash to Tom on what renewal means. I'm interested to see what he says, in front of a national audience.
First question goes to Tom - surprise! - from Peggy Nash
Tom responded very well to Peggy's question.
Tom kind of gave a vague answer. Just said it's about winning more seats in the rest of the country like what we did in Quebec.
Nash gave him a second shot. He talked about allowing local campaigns to have more flexibility to avoid the centralized boilerplate.
Mulcair under attack again - from Topp. Guess Mulcair truly is the leader.
Topp is right beside Mulcair but doesn't look at him while asking him a question!
Singh breaks the monotony by going against Cullen on his plan.
nash takes on mulcair for vagueness - mulcair parries, somewhat successfully, i should say. holding pattern.
topp hits mulcair well, mulcair defends well.
singh questions cullen on his party, basically a softball.
I'm disappointed that the majority of the debate will be in English, considering that opportunities for young people is an issue that affects francophone communities as well. It's an insult to francophone communities we need to vote NDP for forming a national government.
I'm also disappointed that with the exception of Ashton, none of the candidates in their opening statements made specific reference to the issues young people face. And people wonder why young people are cynical about politics.
Cullen seems nervous. Singh is pressing him hard on his cooperation plan.
Mulcair offers a bunch of double to talk in response to Nash. And continues to sidestep the income tax question in response to Topp.
Cullen looks pissed off at Singh.
Nathan responded well to Martin - both did well
Cullen is giving me a little confidence that he can prevent the co-operation strategy from backfiring. Singh is right that cooperation with the Liberals might cost us a lot of support for the anti-Liberal vote. But Cullen pointed out: voters like cooperation in principle. Voters hate partisanship. He's selling the strategy less as a marriage to the Liberals, and more just having a positive and reasonable attitude to getting things done.
Good job by Ashton.
Not the roots and trees again.
Tom finally gets a chance to ask a question - much laughter.
i think mulcair blew away ashton's fairly weak re-iteration of nash and topp's attacks.
Niki winning both exchanges against Mulcair. Go Niki go!
i think mulcair blew away ashton's fairly weak re-iteration of nash and topp's attacks.
Tom is handling Paul's question well as he did with Peggy and Brian.
Dewar seems rather dour today. Flustered.
Gang up on Mulcair! Show NDPers the real Tom!
The cheerleading about winning/losing exchanges is kind of lame, guys. I'm not seeing any winners or losers in these exchanges.
Take off the partisan sunglasses.
Give it a break. People have a right to espress their opinions - don't like them don't bother reading them.
