Mainstream media May Day coverage non-existent unless violent

Huge, record turnouts for the march in Toronto on International Workers Day, but near total media silence. Even with the arrest of several Occupy-supportive religious leaders.

Yet masks and violence in Montreal make the papers.

Makes one question which strategy is most effective, doesn't it?

Effectiveness of protest is not measured solely in column inches.

Not solely, but that is part of the idea, to attract attention. Protests need to get creative to get this attention. People marching are old hat, no matter how many. Personally, I don't think protests need more violence. I think they need more superheroes!

Maybe these large-scale marches should train and dress up teams of protest-approved superheroes that prevent property damage but still spread the message of the demonstration. Captain Occupy and the Non-Profiteers? That would get on some news channels, I bet.
