Everyone thinks the next election will be in 2015, but the Prime Minister has already ignored his own fixed-date election law once, in calling the 2008 campaign, and he could well do it again.

Look out for 2014, on the heels of the Winter Olympics, if Canadian athletes perform ok. There would be time for the Cons to ride out their current unpopularity and throw some money around. They would be hoping for a Liberal party resurgent enough to eat into NDP support by that time. (It would be good for the NDP and Canada if they choose Justin Trudeau.)

Just speculating. It shouldn't be a preoccupation, but the opposition can't be caught sleeping.

As long as we're just speculating, here's mine:
Harper will call the election as late as he can, because he wants to remake Canada in his own image and probably has no intention of running again (he will have been PM for ten years if he can find a way to delay the election until 2016). Thus, look for even larger and more devastating omnibus (ominous?) budget bills in the years to come (March 2013, March 2014, March 2015, and, possibly, March 2016 and the election that year - delayed to mark his 10th year as PM - and to allow the party to find a successor onhis retirement in his tenth year). He'll probably find a way to make it impossible to overturn some of the changes he's making to the Canadian fabric. Such is the nature of giving these bastards a majority mandate and a license to kill.

If the Conservatives can find a way to delay the next election until 2016 - to allow Harper and the party to celebrate ten years as PM (Harper was sworn in as Canada's 22nd
Prime Minister on February 6, 2006) - imagine the celebration these guys will have lined up.

harpo set date was usually every 2 years for example
2004-2006 (2 yrs) then 2006-2008 (2 yrs) then 2008-2011 (3 yrs)
I believe he would set date next year or 2014. not even 2015.
I thought election suppoused in 4 or 5 every years, not 2-3 years?
2004-2006-2008-2011 supposed 2004-2008-2012
