Tory Revolt

More Tories have had voiced complaints about the direction the Harper government is taking. http://m.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-notebook/former-reform... I think even the patience of the Tory membership is strained. First it was the back bench MP who indictated other back benchers were upset, then it was the two former Tory fisheries ministers in tandem with two former,Liberal Ministers, and now its Harpers own former enviromental critic from the days of Refoooorm along with 19 other people lead by Elithbeth May. Side note Emay has been a much more effective MP then I expected, I never liked her honestly, but so far she's punching above her own weight.

Don't worry..once a tory always a tory ..the reason they are one in the first place is their gulliibility.

Textbook majority ..the first 2 years ,implement the "Agenda" the following two, suck up to the voter ..the voter can only remember the last 2 years...the lies , the promises, etc.

Problem for this dictorial government tho is they may not last 2 years ...given there record of cheating and crime, hence will be totally decimated and reduced to rubble, as polls are indicating.

So the smart neocon might want to consider a differant direction ..key word..smartSmile

Amazing that the Cons are still even with the NDP despite their many missteps. Frown

It does appear the support is weaking, do you remember the last poll the Toriea were at 40 percent in? Polls have them 37 to 30 percent and people aren't fully paying attention. This scandal plague will continue for the forsee able future chipping away at support like wind and water eroding stone. If a scandal happens during the next election is could cause a massive Tory collapse by then.

Imagine: Red Tories, led by Allison Redford and Big Oil, aligning themselves with Bay St. and the LPC (she speaks fluent French, and has a rapport with Jean Charest-- which might help Quebec with equalization negotiations, before the next federal election).

Harper is gutting the progressive character of government, so what do Tories have to complain about?

Mulcair & co. need to give them good reasons to gripe because otherwise Harper is pretty effectively delivering to his base. Go after the (corruption, incompetence and) sleaze.

Well politcs in this country is polarizing: So everyone who says they will vote Conservative may not be happy with everything but don't want those damn socialists to win. Fiscally conservative types are sticking with the Cons despite it all unless the Liberals start to show signs of life.

On the left, Mulcair hasn't really gotten much criticism. Those who originally were weary of him have been won over. In fact, I dare say Mulcair may be the most left wing leader out of the federal and provincial sections. The only other one who could be is maybe Dix. Horwath was at one point, but has decided to give the finger to the union base that mader her leader and become a pocketbook populist. Promoting auto insurance regulation? Pointless! NATIONALIZE IT.

I agree Horwath has been a disappointment, but if I were an Ontario voter, I'd still prefer her to either McQuinty or Who-dak.

Horwath is like the first provincial leader to increase income taxes on the rich in forever, she just blocked Dalton's attempt to give his ministers unrestrain priviatation powers without taking it before Queens Park, she increased help for those on disability and welfare, amoung other things. Is it disappointing that she wasn't able to get more? Yes, but that's the fault of Dalton and the resession. She still a hell of a lot better turn eduction cuts Dexter. She'll be even better once she dumps dead weight Dalton.

And before you complain too much about the home heating proirity, she borrowed that idea from her mentor Jack Layton.

I do agree Mulcair is more left wing then OTHER people expected ;D.

I think when the investigations are in for the 200 ridings the question is going to be the legality of all the bills passed , many of them too ideological and self serving as in corrupt dictatorship....that is going to bug lots of people.

As it is, when uninformed people start discussing the robo call democratic swindle and how they were hoodwinked ..they ask the question ..Doesn't that make all the legislation they are passing null and void? You would think it would, just like any other crime, like proceeds from crime as an example.

At least with adscam there was inquiries and sentences dished out...this is way worse and looking at the amount of money they are controllling and planning to spend....and the deficit they are putting us in...and all the criminality involved...people are going to have to make tough decisions on whether this is the type of dictatorship they are willing to leave to their children etc....

This can only get worse for the Conservatives...and when they do get the boot I hope the government of the day makes them pay dearly for all the corruption and swindling.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, eh? First, the Cons have a solid majority - even if they lose a seat or two, they'll still be the governing party until at least 2015, and they know how to win elections. They may even win again in 2015 (or 2016?) by playing the fears against NDP 'socialism' and "big money unions" and so on. Canadians have proven themselves gullible time and time again. I don't see any hope for this country unless we see the NDP under Mulcair suddenly surge to near 40% in polling. Not likely, but it could happen.

With Harper seeking new overseas bases for the Canadian Forces, which is a truly insane move, there likely will be grumbling amonsg his base like never before. We can only hope. And that an NDP government will shut down any new CF bases overseas.

Actually I think if the NDP run on a platform that promises to try to undo everything Harper has done in government, that will probably push them into government.

I saw a top story indicating that the NDP has a nose up on the Cons in some polls....I'm not goin g to celebrate that right now but the fact that NDP is steady, losing no ground,is good news.

The big scary socialist thing is a hard sell against Mulcair.

1. Is what I call the distraction policies. He favours tax credits for businesses that create jobs, cutting small business taxes, and he wants to recruit some big business names as candiates, and to adjust the language we use. This creates a more centralist impression then is the case, allowing Mulcair to move over policies to the left. Its basically the left wing equivilant to the Harper tactic of making empty geastures to the centre while moving centre rightwards.

2. The counter intuitive running against the base during a leadership race and then running, towards it after creates an impression that reinforces the distraction.

This allows Mulcair to offer 800 million for tuition, massive cap and trade, Pharmacare, Daycare, 50 percent female representation on federal boards, to fight the Tories union bashing on behalf of the unions, using the CMHC to provide super cheap loans for affordable housing (which seems as close to nationalizing a bank as one can get without nationalizing a bank), gas tax tranfer to municalities for inferstructure, Corporate tax increase, finincial transaction tax, closing tax loop holes, and on top of all that he's open to an income tax increase depending on how the books look in 2015, fair trade treaties,Ppp pressing for value added jobs, boosting healthcare transfers, and that old dream, since the Calagry Manifesto in the CCF's founding of killing the senate, and proportional representation, rebuilding the Canadian Wheat Pool, decrimalizing pot(btw his idea of decrimalization sounds a lot like legalization except for organized crime), and still look like a business minded centralist.

This is just his leadership platform, that's not including possibly borrowing ideas from his leadership rivals.

If Mulcair gets to implement these ideas it would radically transform Canadian society.
