Summertime, and the moderating is easy ...

Each and every summer, rabble -- and babble -- activity slows down, for the most part.  It's a blessing for us mods who, during most of the year, have to volunteer way too much time to doing what only a few babblers want us to do -- moderate.

I'm enjoying this brief lull, but am wondering: are we less vigilant during the summer months because so many of us have the luxury of vacation time? What if babble were centred in a developing country (assuming -- and this is total fantasy -- that all economic classes of people had Internet access) where the general population has no concept of "vacation" because every hour, day, season, is devoted to survival.

An intellectual exercise, to be sure, but I'm curious.  What would babble look like if it were based in an impoverished "developing" country?

Like Canada, you mean? Sealed

We might have to have forums dedicated to: safe drinking water and where to get it; avoiding war zones, right wing death squads and violence in general; DIY abortions; dealing with children's hunger pangs, cholera, fever, diarrhea, machette wounds etc, organizing protests and rebellions by cell phone, affordable shacks from corrugated tin, life on the flood plains etcetera

It probably wouldn't look as foolish as this thread.

Honestly, Rebecca, do you think slamming babblers is a fruitful way to begin a discussion - or to function as a moderator?

I didn't see that as a slamming Unionist but rather as an honest recognition that Babblers are divided on what it means to moderate this site.

I didn't mean my post #1 as a shot to RW - rather I was expressing my frustration with this country under the Harper conservatives - it seems to me that we're going backwards and becoming much less of a developed country than we used to be; and this country's treatment of First Nations in particular is really doing downhill fast. I apologise for the drift. Embarassed

Okay.  So much for opening threads that have anything to do with the site, moderating, etc.  More insult and beligerance I do not need.

Closing.

ETA: I find it rather curious that a request to pull our privileged heads out of our asses and consider a more impoverished reality engenders a hostile and beligerant reaction.
