US Prepares For Direct Intervention in Syria?   -  by Tony Cartalucci

http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=32010

"...The West's problem is that not a square inch of Syrian territory is held by NATO's terrorist proxies. The announcement that indeed the US and France are maneuvering their client regime into place, while they plan on openly intervening on behalf of the so-called 'Free Syrian Army', is the final nail in the 'Opposition's' legitimacy, exposing them as placeholders of Western geopolitical aspirations in Syria and the Arab World..."

"In a new offensive against Damascus, Washington has claimed that the Sryian government possesses and intends to use, chemical weapons.."

I think the Syrians themselves have announced that...

Quote:
Syria says will use chemical weapons if attacked; The Syrian regime threatened Monday to use its chemical and biological weapons in case of a foreign attack, in its first ever acknowledgement that it possesses weapons of mass destruction.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi vowed, however, that Damascus would not use its unconventional arms against its own citizens. The announcement comes as Syria faces international isolation, a tenacious rebellion that has left at least 19,000 people dead and threats by Israel to invade to prevent such weapons from falling into rebel hands.

Syria's decision to reveal the long suspected existence of its chemical weapons suggests a desperate regime deeply shaken by an increasingly bold rebellion that has scored a string of successes in the past week, including a stunning bomb attack that killed four high-level security officials, the capture of several border crossings and sustained offensives on the regime strongholds of Damascus and Aleppo.

If this story is true this is still nothing but a hollow threat: chemical and biological weapons are not really that effective against modern troops like NATO that are prepared and trained to react to such attacks; especially now that they know it will happen. They will more likly do more harm to his own troops and the citizens of Syria (almost for sure) than to NATO or whomever.

If the Assad regime falls, and that's still a big if, I think it would be best if Russia and China uses their troops to secure those weapon stockpiles. Neither of these nations have any interest in those weapons getting into the hands of nefarious organizations like Al Qaida and they are on good trems with the regime to organize an operation to secure those weapons without having to fight thier way in. That's my thinking anyways but alas I'm not running the show.

I was appalled this morning to see headlines trumpeting "Assad strikes back, thousands flee Damascus." Imagine if a thousand foreign-backed troops (and there probably weren't a thousand rebels involved in Damascus) took over several Toronto neighbourhoods. Think of Harper's counterattack! The failure of the rebel offensive was inevitable (since it was only for show anyway, so we could see headlines about Damascus being about to "fall"), but our media frame this inevitable defeat as if it were an atrocity by the Syrian army. Note that this is the second time rebels managed to get a brief foothold in Damascas (the other time was in February). And Mr. Observatory in Coventry told anyone who'd listen that it was all over for Assad that time too. Now Israel has come up with an excuse to really make a mess.

On the other hand, I'm not convinced by Webster Tarpley--seems like a bit of a kook to me. But since we've experienced the U.S. secretary of state standing up and flagrantly lying to the U.N. (Colin Powell on Iraq), and fake atrocities in Libya (air strafing of Benghazi), along with a long string of fake or misattributed massacres in Syria, we should look pretty closely at what shows up headlines. Why can't our media think critically? Le Devoir just keeps reprinting whatever France Presse Internationale sends them. It's crazy!

I am unconvinced by predictions of Assad's imminent fall, which seem to me premature, however some excellent commentators disagree. Here are some...

"There is little doubt Syrian President Bashar al Assad's days in power are numbered. As every Middle Eastern analyst now agrees, the recent escalation in violence signals the beginning of the end. The jingoism of the international media is matched only by the hypocrisy of Western leaders...

Even though the Syrian crisis has been in the news almost constantly these past few weeks, most North Americans still have little understanding...When you add that 'rebel' moniker, the adjective 'pro-democracy' or as is now the case, the term 'Free Syrian Army,' how can we do anything but support such altruistic fighters?"

The lights have been switched on in the operating theatre and the carving of Syria is beginning. What is going to follow won't be a pretty sight at all since the patient is not under anesthesia, and the chief surgeon prefers to lead from behind while sidekicks do the dirty job.

So far Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have done the maximum they could to destabilize Syria and remove the regime headed by President Bashar al-Assad. But Bashar is still holding out. Israeli expertise is now needed to complete the unfinished business. Someone is needed to plunge a sharp knife deep into Bashar's back...

The entry of Exxon Mobil and Chevron is a game-changer in the regional politics of Syria. The point is, the best transportation route to the world market for the massive oil and gas deposits in Kurdistan will be via the Syrian port city of Latakia on the eastern Mediterranean..."

Just received a reply from Paul Dewar on the NDP's Syria policy. He talks only about Assad's attrocities and wants Harper to put pressure on Russia and China, presumably so we can all go in and bomb the crap out of the place under U.N. auspices. I explained to him the error of his ways, but since my initial letter had already covered it all, I don't hold out much hope. I suppose I wasn't all that convincing.

Syria and chemical weapons: the really frightening possibility is that al-CIA'da will get its hands on them

Pro war propagandists resorting to such language as "...could possess" and "little is known" and "Al-Qaeda now appears to have a presence inside Syria", as if everyone is as clueless as they are on the gladio gang's invisible army of darkness marauding into Syria from Iraq, Turkey, and Libya and sponsored by America's bff and allied dictatorships in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

I suppose the people of Aleppo can feel proud that they were bombed by their own government rather than meddlesome foreigners.

Fidel

Yes it's too bad about Syria. I suppose NATO and their terrorists for hire will have to destroy the country in order to save it. I think the CIA should go back to assassinating foreign leaders and rigging elections. Supporting Al-CIA'da and Contra-style terrorism might be faster but the optics of it are just terrible.

Mark my words they'll pull the same thing in Iran at some point. Iran will suddenly have problems with Al CIA'da terror and mercenaries marauding in over the borders and bombing people and infrastructure. Iranians will be murdered similarly, and our lapdog newz media will blame it on the Iranian government. And nothing is new under the sun. Team Gladio has been at it since the cold war. We lefties are familiar with their MO.

Washington Steps Up Drive to Overthrow Syrian Regime  - by Niall Green

"Following its failure to ram through a resolution against Syria at the United Nations Security Council last week, the administration of Barack Obama has intensified its preparations to gather a 'coalition of the willing' to oust the government of Syria and install a US client regime. The New York Times reported Sunday that the White House is 'now holding daily high-level meetings' on Syria 'to discuss a broad range of contingency plans.'

Senior figures from the Obama administration and the Pentagon are also in discussions with their Israeli counterparts to prepare for an attack on Syria. US National Security Advisor Thomas Donilon was in Israel for talks last week and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is due to visit Jerusalem in the next few days to discuss the situation in Syria.."

The two old line parties have ruled Canada federally for twice as long as the USSR existed.

It's the democracy gap-canyon, er, chasm. Time for a democracy break right here in the northern colony. Syria has a ways to go to beat that record.

Fidel

That's right, Arab spring is an advertising slogan. And it's false advertising. NATO spring is more like it. NATO was in danger of becoming irrelevant after the cold war ended. They needed a sufficiently evol enemy to replace the Sovs. Colin Powell stated concern that they were down to two measly axes of evol nations, Cuba and North Korea. How in the world could they justify closed economies for the military-industrial complex and massive social programs for rich people with just two tiny countries defying the empire? They had to act before the average American no longer had anything to live in constant fear of. The national adrenaline level would have to be maintained, and so they invented Elvis bin Laden and "Al Qaeda", or their expendable jihadi assets who suddenly found themselves unemployed in after the Afghan job from 1979 to '89.

Neoliberal ideology is inherently undemocratic. Nixon(the madman) and Pinochet(the dictator) both understood this to be true. Arab spring is a Trojan horse for their ideology and to wipe the slate clean in various countries.

These countries where team Gladio are supporting terrorism would never willingly become colonial outposts for the US Military and their multinational corporate friends. And they can't afford long-term military occupations - Vietnam was proof of that. Libya. Therefore they will have to do carpet bombing, like the doctor and the madman did in Vietnam and Cambodia in destroying those countries for decades afterward. It's about democracy prevention and maintaining division among the barbarians. Welcome to the new dark ages.

On July 11, German writer Jurgen Todenhofer confirmed  the presence of Al Qaeda insurgents in Syria. He met with them, he said. He holds them and others like them responsible for mass terror attacks.

He described a "massacre marketing strategy." He called it "among the most disgusting things that I have ever experienced in an armed conflict."

He added that Western media distort what's happening on the ground. Viewers and readers know it's their stock and trade. They're paid to lie. Journalists dedicated to truth and full disclosure need not apply.

On July 24, Asia Times writer John Rosenthal headlined "German intelligence: al-Qaeda all over Syria," saying:

"German intelligence estimates that 'around 90' terror attacks that 'can be attributed to organizations that are close to al-Qaeda or jihadist groups' were carried out in Syria between the end of December and the beginning of July, as reported by the German daily Die Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ)."

Die Welt and Bild published similar reports. All three name Al Qaeda behind the May 25 Houla massacre. Russian journalist Marat Musin was there. He said hundreds of "bandits and mercenaries" were responsible.

Washington's imperial tactics involve cutthroat killer atrocities. Human lives have no value. Only wealth, privilege and dominance matter. US officials don't keep body counts. Objectives are pursued lawlessly.

In 1980's-90's Afghanistan and Pakistan, they were referred to as Mujahideen - mercenaries and proxy hirelings from more than 40 countries trained and armed by the CIA, Pakistan's Army Intelligence, Saudis and British SAS.

Plot to Turn Aleppo into Benghazi 2

http://www.presstv.com/detail/2012/08/01/253846/plot-to-turn-aleppo-into...

"...The Turkish government intends to exploit the lack of Syrian Army rule over the Kurdish region in order to establish a 'free zone' with the capital of Aleppo. There is the possibility that Ankara might drive thousands of Syrian refugees to this region and increase its non-Kurdish population.

The scenario is very clear. If Aleppo falls into the hands of the opposition and the Syrian army fails to recapture it, it will turn into Benghazi 2. The Transitional government will  be deployed there and will demand help from NATO and Western governments. Aleppo will become a key point and a move will be made on Damascus again..."

Stephen Lendman wrote:

Militants are largely imported, not homegrown. Many are Al Qaeda affiliated. They're brought in from regional countries. Most Syrian regime opponents deplore violence. They want reforms, not war.

The Times said more recently "larger, more organized and better armed Syrian militant(s push) an agenda based on jihad."

At the same time, it claimed "no significant presence of foreign combatants of any stripe in Syria...." It cited an unnamed "activist" saying around 1,000 of 50,000 fighters involved are foreigners. It added that many of them aren't "jihadists."

It tiptoed toward admitting that what Assad said all long is true. It suggested that "Salafist groups" and other Islamic radicals "now receive most foreign financing."

It stopped short of explaining that Syria was lawlessly invaded. It's waging defensive liberating battles. International law legitimizes them. No nation would stand aside and let foreign invaders ravage and control their country.

Gladio Gang Inc. waging terrorism in yet another country. Welcome to the new dark ages.

"The behaviour of the NATO-aligned, anti-Syrian bloc is now blatant enough for us to better understand what is happening in Syria. On the one hand, we find political operators such as the ad-hoc group 'Friends of Syria', and on the other. two Arab personalities, both members of two Gulf sheikdoms.

The first group includes NATO led heads of state, with a barely disguised Israeli master-plan conceived by the likes of Bernard Henri Levy. Rather than being the friends of Syria, thse personalities are arguably working to secure their own financial interests in, around, and via Syria..."

Quote:
The US government has known that Al Qaeda has been among the Syrian rebels as in February 2012, Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper stated that “Members of Al Qaeda have infiltrated Syrian opposition groups.”

Thus, the US government has been supporting the rebels since late last year and has been working with Al Qaeda (albeit indirectly) to topple the Syrian government, yet PBS seems to be concerned only with spouting lies.

In the same interview, when Woodruff asked Amrani “How can you be sure that the next government won't be as repressive as this government?,” Amrani replied by saying “Listen, we had some experiences in Libya, in Tunisia, in the Maghreb, that were successful.”

Yes Al CIA'da has certainly been successful in Tunisia and the maghreb.

Massacres in Aleppo, Syria  -  by Tony Cartalucci

http://landdestroyer.blogspot.ca/2012/08/massacres-in-aleppo-syria.html

"Responsibility to Protect' crumbles as Western-armed terror front slaughters civilians while foreign sponsors attempt to tie the hands of Syrian security forces. For the people of Aleppo, their only hope is Syria's security forces restoring order. In pockets of Syria's largest city the so-called 'Free Syrian Army' (FSA) has dug into a campaign of systematic detention, torture and mass murder, carried out against 'enemies of the revolution'.

Demonized as either 'Shabiha' or 'government supporter', men have been rounded up, lined up against walls, and gunned down en mass. Others await barbaric 'drumhead trials' where FSA warlords deal out arbitrary justice under the guise of 'Sharia law'.."

UN Vote on Syria Reflects Changing Battlefield  -  by Tony Cartalucci

http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=32200

"...Nations who didn't support the resolution included China, Russia, Iran, Cuba, Pakistan, South Africa, India, Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, Iraq, North Korea, Belarus, Nicaragua, Myanmar and Zimbabwe. It is an incomplete list that is already far too long and already includes nearly half the world's population to be labeled as an 'Axis of Evil'.

The UN has become a tool, entirely of corporate - financier interests, articulated by UN representatives detached from their own populations, who have hijacked their collective voice and use it to ram through their own narrow, self-serving agendas.."

that would include our government and the 'loyal' opposition, in the present case of Syria, Libya and Iran. Do not forgive or forget what they endorse, approve and execute in our name..

Fidel

Yes I think Cartalucci may be right. And I think, too, that NATO operators may be too chickenshit to do a Napoleon of it and attempt an invasion of Russia. It was Napoleon's mistake, and I think it would be the end of Team Gladio similarly. And so the vicious empire is reduced to perpetrating terrorism against other countries economically stronger than they are. It's sad, really.
