And, as with Scott, there's the issue of optics. If Republican donors and delegates are seen whooping and partying it up as Floridians are left in the dark due to downed powerlines, it just might not look good. So don't be surprised if the first day of the convention is canceled Monday as well.

They must appear different for the 2-party hegemony to work properly. The Republicans are only calling for cuts to future spending increases and would not cut enough to get back to a budget surplus. That is why Ron Paul calls them fake conservatives. All the social legislation is what gets their base fired up and fires up the liberal base and judging from your posts it is working. But as we have seen, Obama has continued many of Bush's policies. He has done some socially progressive things like repealing Don't ask don't tell and supporting gay marriage, which is good. I mean he had to do something to show that he is still a democrat. But seriously, the Dems and Reps are run by the same people, the bankers.

With Obama the military will continue sucking another trillion dollars from budgetary spending every year. And with Romney, it'll be a trillion dollars plus. Both are jockeying for cosmetic leadership of the country.   U.S. elections are like a choice between strychnine and cyanide. Four more wars and poverty in store for tens of millions while the richest Romans continue sacking and looting America. They've reached the stage when capitalists are feeding on the corpse. It's finished. 

Let clear away some of the confusion. Yes Republican Democract same old story, but this isn't Republicans vs. Democracts, its Tea Party vs. Democracts.

The Tea party isn't just greedy and morally bankrupt, its,extremely bat shit crazy.

This is

a battle between the sane vs. The insane, not,left vs. right.

So Yes I hope I hope Obama wins, dispit what a.terrible job he's done, because the Tea party is psychotic.

I just read an essay related to my above post by Bill Mahar in his new new rules book on this very topic ironically moments ago. Left, Right, Veneer. He says that the Democracts have become the Republicans and the Republicans have become mental patients and I have to agree.

CNN showed a clip of Eastwood at the RNC last night - probably his worse performance, ever.

I thought it was such a dumb stunt. CNN is reporting this morning that even Romney didn't like Eastwood's performance.

I'm sorry, but maybe someone can explain to me what the problem with Eastwood's speech was.

For the first two thirds of it I don't think he said anything that someone criticizing Obama from the left would not have said.

Arguing AGAINST the opponent rather than FOR your guy  is hardly a ringing endorsement.

We all know what his stance is on marriage equality, so it was an awkward fit, and a bad decision on Eastwood's part. This is the best the GOP can do?

And most importantly, everyone is talking about him today, not Mitt Romney.

Yes. I've noticed all kinds of references to age and mental health on FB and elsewhere too. I guess that kind of chatter is okay when we are talking about people who consort with the enemy.

(to be clear, I'm not saying some of it isn't funny. Just the jokes about senility, which I think were just gratuitous and without foundation).

The problem with spending so much time on Eastwood is that we avoid critical analysis of Romney.

Of all people, Romney should not be making references to the "birther" nonsense.

His father ran for president, and it is an established fact that he was born in Mexico, in a polygamist refugee colony.

Beyond everything else, he is an ignorant , hypocritical creep to sell into that nonsense that has nothing to do with the campaign.

To clarify - it has as much to do with the campaign and the politics of the nation as the fact that Barack Obama is only part white. The motive for playing into it is purely discriminatory. And it is even worse because Romney's father and former presidential candidate actually has less cred as an American than Obama.
