Thoughts on the CIAL?

I'd like to know your thoughts on the NGO Coalition for an International Auxiliary language (CIAL) and the Recommendations of the 1999 Seoul International Conference of NGOs.

Considering the significant econommic advantage the dominant languages of the world give their speakers to the detriment of others worldwide, should progressive movements in Canada also sign on to these recommendations? I realise they'd conflict with official bilingualism, but since they involve UN and not Canadian policy, it would seem appropriate to me that Canadians support the gradual deofficialization of English and French at the UN and their replacement with some auxiliary language.

Any thoughts on this?

Also, any petition or letter-writing campaign to the UN would likely put the Conservatives on the defensive big time, considering that inasmuch as they pretend not to care about the UN, they'd still be well aware, even if only vaguely, of the symbolic importance of English and French at the UN and the economic advantage it gives them worldwide.
