Happy New Year, pogge!  Long time no see!

And yes, unfortunately for oldgoat, he will not be allowed to forget this ever, at least as long as Maysie and I get together with him.

It's a testament to Old Goat he was so candid in the first place. What a fella. Smile

oldgoat

Well I may as well ban myself again for all the good I can do.  I'm still having problems with my mod permissions with the new software.

Unionist...thanks, and back at you.  That's a great picture.

Such a lovely image, I had to borrow it too! Happy New Year you crazy and lovely bunch of babblers. Here's hoping progressive change becomes stronger in 2013.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Gee, I haven't seen Maysie show up here yet...I wonder why.

Did I mention that she came over last night, and the four of us were up until 3 a.m. playing the board game, "Class Struggle" that radiorahim dug out of the basement?  I got to be the capitalist, but I ended up nuking the world, so everyone lost.  Oh well!

oldgoat

I always knew you had it in you.  You must have thought you were being a moderator.

Michelle

Well, the funny part is that in that game, on every turn the capitalist has, they get to decide which direction the play goes from there.  The capitalist also gets to decide who hands out the assets/debits, and the other cards.  So you could get downright bossy as the capitalist in that game!

And of course, unless you land on the "nuclear war" square, you generally win, too.

It was a pretty funny game.  And a lot of the "chance" cards were really funny, too.

Maysie Maysie's picture

I'm awake, I'm here. Tongue out

Class Struggle was a great game. The best part was I got to say "fuck you!" to Michelle and give her the finger. I was representing the students and she was trying to co-opt me into her evil capitalist schema, and succeeded for a time. By the time we got nuked (which was all Michelle's fault), the students were back with the worker class.

Happy New Year, babblers!

Michelle

That's why I kept letting the person on my other side go next. :p  You weren't grateful enough for the crumbs I was offering to you!

Well of course, but considering that the important thing is to ensure that no one else wins, that makes perfect sense.

Michelle

Well, that's kind of what I thought too.  It felt like winning!

6079_Smith_W

That's the spirit! Happy New Year!

Ha!  Before I clicked, I figured it would be a video of Tom Cruise going on about "winning". ;)

And Old Goat and I are off! Our subsequent reign o' terror complete! Thanks to all the babblers for keeping it interesting over the holidays!

Catchfire Catchfire's picture

A massive thanks to Kaitlin and Oldgoat for providing Rebecca and I with a break over the holidays. From what I've seen, they were both exemplary -- oldgoat being the exemplary exemplar, naturally (aside from banning himself, which caused much amusement over the staff email lists this holidays). Kaitlin, especially considering she was just hoisted into the hot mess that is babble, was absolutely fantastic. I suggested she just act her intelligent, charming and ruthless self and she'd be fine; and Lo! She was. It's a Christmas miracle.

Thanks again dudes!

Also, to the rest of you: sorry, we're "back." As you were.

MegB

Ditto that.

Caissa

I missed it all by taking 17 days vacation.

The last thing we needed was good old Caissa stirring up the threads Wink

Must say it was fun and challenging, but super glad Catchfire and Rebecca West are back and never leaving. never.

The horror. The horror.

I've been a good boy lately.Wink

Didn't even make Santa's naughty list.

So, I'm guessing, you got socks and underwear instead of coal?

Ha! So the rumours are true - you DO have a sense of humour.

Fidel started a thread on pedophilia... Umm, what else...?

Caissa

And I thought the thread was incredibly well managed by the moderators. I tip my hat to them.

That impression is good since I think it comes from the fact that since you took a 17 day vacation you are reading a "redacted" version of the real time thread. They were handed a grenade with the pin pulled and did well to defuse the situation. I fully support the moderators new "powers" to change and delete posts and take out insults and other things that don't belong on babble.  It means that the debates then get to have a focus on the thread topic itself and new people reading the thread can be spared the mud wrestling.

Caissa

I realize that Kropotkin.  I did wonder what my thoughts would have been reading it in real time.It is the first time I had read a redacted version of a thread. I, too, think this change is a good thing.

Kangaroos with gigantic thingmabobs mud-wrestling? Surprised

It is too dry in Oz right now for there to be mud to wrestle in.

Yes and the winner gets a new marbles bag.

Kaitlin McNabb Kaitlin McNabb's picture

I'm not sure if redacted threads will be a course babble moderators take, it was just how the moderator at that moment -- myself -- felt the situation needed to be dealt with in order to remove the offensive and off-hand bits and also preserve the clarity of the conversation.

As opposed to modifying thread, maybe we can all just get along.Smile

...and I remember from my garbage mitt days that that kangaroo leather is pretty fire-resistant. A bonus this season.

oldgoat

Looks like I'm going to be doing a guest moderating gig again over the holidays.  I'll try not to ban myself this year.

Unionist

Happy New Year, everyone! Peace, love, health, solidarity, and caring!

oldgoat

Just looking back in time.  Got a lot of chuckles from this one.  Also for some strange reason, I started that gig as a thread on paedophilia was erupting, ...getting familiar.

oldgoat

...also, g'night, visions of sugarplums and all, and a happy tomorrow.

oldgoat

So I thought I'd make this announcement in my all time favourite thread.  Looks like I'm going to be moderating this week while our esteemed Meg engages in astral projection or something.  Not used to the new controls, because I didn't have admin privliges until later yesterday afternoon.  Let the "accidently banning myself" jokes commence!

Nice to be back.

Mobo2000

Hi oldgoat, would you be able to let us know if babbler "WWWTT" was banned or not?   Thanks.

lagatta4

Hi old goat! A toast to goats old and young, nanny, billy and otherwise!

oldgoat

Thanks Lagatta and Mobo.  I looked back a couple of months and I don't see WWWTT being banned.  I'm just getting used to the new controls.  They're not very intuitive.  i have not as yet figured out how to find a specific babbler and look at their account.  Let you know if I see anything regarding this babbler.

Mobo2000

Thanks much.

Mr. Magoo

If you click on his name wherever you find it, you'll be taken to his profile page.  Typically, if someone gets turfed, clicking on their name takes you to an error message ("You do not have permission to view this page" or something like that).

oldgoat

Yeah, f'rinstance if you look at Magoo's account you'll see I've banned him.

Mobo2000

Wow, that click on the name thing is opening up a whole new world for me.   Thanks Magoo.

oldgoat

So with this completely different mod interface, I'm not seeing a flag comment option.  I really havn't looked in much of late.  Any issues, please just message me.

Also, it seems I have the power to change people's usernames, something I could not do in the past.  So, if you see a user named McPumpkin Sillypants who sounds strangely like Magoo, I apologise in advance for my inability to resist an urge.

Mr. Magoo

Well, whatever you pick probably couldn't be more silly than Mr. Magoo.  Note that if I'd always been McPumpkin Sillypants and you threatened to change it to Mr. Magoo, it wouldn't be that much less worse.

But I'm a BRAND now, Oldgoat.
