Radio Free Saint John - online striker radio station!

Members of the Canadian Media Guild, currently on strike against three Saint John, NB radio stations operated by Halifax based MBS Radio have setup "Radio Free Saint John", an online radio station.

These folks have been on strike for over 200 days and are trying to get a first contract.   Some of them earn not much more than minimum wage.   So much for the "glamour" of the radio biz!

For those of you (like me) who can't stand Flash, you can listen using the media playing software of your choice here.

I see that they have a boycott list of advertisers.  They're only calling for people who live in Saint John to boycott those advertisers, but some of them (e.g. Rona, Shoppers Drug Mart) have corporate stores as opposed to franchises (I think Rona has both corporate stores AND franchises), so it might be worthwhile for some of us outside NB to engage in some interprovincial solidarity and write to those stores owned by the corporations to say we won't be shopping there during the strike.  I know that rr and I go to Shoppers at least once a week since we have one nearby.  I'm willing to forgo it and go elsewhere as an act of solidarity.

MEH!! Your link just spits out code instead of translating it into audio! It looks as if it's trying to use winamp to stream in MP3, but it ain't happening for me...

Many veteran broadcasters have been on the picket line here in Saint John. The wages they are offering are atrocious. Many companies have pulled their advertisements from these scab stations. I'll have to give the boycott list a look to make sure I'm not inadvertantly supporting these companies. Radio Free Saint John has space right across from the Maritime Broadcasting studios.

Maybe I shouldn't have done it that way.   OK, copy and paste this URL into whatever player you use.    Tested OK in VLC Media Player and on Radio Tray for GNU/Linux (what I'm currently using for online radio)

No idea where to plug that link into Windows Media Player.

Isn't it easier to just tell people to go to the website and click on the "Listen Live" icon in the top right corner...?
