Suprisingly bad results so far. Some of the ridings are very divided geographically, so it would be nice to know which individual polls are reporting but still....
BC Election Day reactions
CTV just predicted a BC LIberal Win
What a fucking disaster.
Conservative target seats
Peace River North: LIB 49 - CON 26 - NDP 20
Langley: LIB 52 - NDP 26 - CON 12
Wow
At 9:10 the CTV is declaring a Liberal win.
GRRRRRRRR
K, do you think this is partially a result of the rise of Justin Trudeau? I know people are always saying there is no connection between the Federal and Provincial parties in BC, but do you think people think they are voting for Trudeau in voting for Clark? Is there spin off on this?
I said it before and i say it again, negative campaign works.
This was Brian Topp's ballgame, right? As someone who was on his campaign last year, I have to say: doesn't speak well for his skills.
Vancouver Point Grey: LIB 48 - NDP 44 - GRN 5 - CON 2
Damn, how badly did Dix blow the debate? I mean my goodness it wasn't that long ago that he was over 50 percent in the polls. Is enbridge and kindler morgan project more popular then we thought?
If the end results look like this, will Dix resign?
He'd better resign. At this point, Adrian Dix is the Toronto Maple Leafs of politicians.
Liberal majority? No. Something's very wrong here.
Was it the leaked report cause a panic?
See this is what happens when you play fair and nice and the other side doesn't.
Wow, that was pretty damn bad. If Christy Clark is re-elected this stupid province won't just start circling the drain, it'll jump right in there.
well, I'm off to bed. see everybody in the morning. if the results hold for the Libs, I will be very interested to see how the pollsters justify things...
Christy Clark is currently not leading her riding...
Well, Christy Clark might technically not get re-elected (in her own riding).
Brachina, what report?
Gwen O'Mahoney has been defeated.
How soon will Dix resign?
This is inexcusable. And it proves that campaigns based on looking "safe" and centrist don't WORK for center-left parties. It proves that making the pitch "don't worry, you won't NOTICE any change" don't work.
The cult of "respectability" is to blame if these results hold. A fighting party that actually STOOD for something would have won in a landslide.
Well, if the Christy Clark led Liberal party is re-elected. They're so fond of bringing up the 90s, well the smell of their budget has a certain "fudget budget" quality to it and it's amazing that enough people don't seem to care.
David Eby ahead by 21 votes.
Christy ClarkBC Liberal Party 2,667 45.33%
David EbyBC NDP 2,688 45.69%
Looks like there are only about 10 Liberal leads that could flip to the NDP
I'm not one to call for a resignation after a defeat normally, but my goodness Dix managed to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. Justin should take note of what happens to nice guys.
And yeah that Maple Leafs of BC Politics will probably stick to him.
They were saying that Dix was campaigning like Jack Layton, but all he saw was happy friendly side, not the brutal street fighter twist the knife side of Jack that gave him the edge in 2011.
This is looking like he's going to do worse then Carole James. I got a feeling this is going to be a bad year for the NDP.
Andrew Weaver of Green Party has been declared elected in Oak Bay - Gordon Head. First Green MLA in history.
Andrew Weaver elected. This will make the task of winning of the NDP winning next election harder as the Greens build on this.
Well, if the Christy Clark led Liberal party is re-elected. They're so fond of bringing up the 90s, well the smell of their budget has a certain "fudget budget" quality to it and it's amazing that enough people don't seem to care.
How about the talk of the Liberals promoting Jane Sterk? Is that along the lines of the vote-splitting scandal in Manitoba where the PC Party financed "independent" candidates to siphon votes from the NDP in the 1995 election?
The constant insistance by the NDP that "it's still early" is getting embarrassing. Give or take a fudge factor for rural precincts reporting earlier, one assumes a standard distribution in these things. The chance of these results being anomalous went below 0.0001% half an hour ago.
For blowing a 20 point lead? Yes, he should go if results stay as they are. Even if they close the gap, still a fuck up!
Both Global and CTV have now declared a Liberal Majority.
This is good news for the BC Liberals and the Greens, they have thier first provincial seat. I feel sick. First time in my life I'm glad I live in Ontario instead of BC.
Weaver elected.
Saanich North and the Islands: NDP 34.0 - GRN 32.3 - LIB 32.1
so does this mean Harper will get re-elected? is it time to move to another country? or maybe sell our souls and (body) and forget Canadian politics once and for all?
Not really, Ken. It's been working for the Manitoba NDP for years. It worked for the federal NDP.
The problem in BC may be that, for some bizarre reason, people think the provincial Liberals are like the federal Liberals.
CBC calls it for the Liberals
CBC calls Liberal govt, but not majority yet.
there you go folks
CBC just declared Liberal win.
Congrats to the Green seat.
I don't understand the rest of these results. And no one else seems to either.
Close-ish Liberal leads over NDP:
Surrey-Fleetwood
Delta North
Coquitlam-Mallardville
Port Moody Coquitlam
Coquitlam-Burke Mountain
Burnaby North
Vancouver Fairview
Skeena
Vancouver-Fraserview
CBC just declares for Liberals
They were saying that Dix was campaigning like Jack Layton, but all he saw was happy friendly side, not the brutal street fighter twist the knife side of Jack that gave him the edge in 2011.
Exactly. People say they don't like negative campaigning, but negative campaiging works. What was Jack's line about "crooks in the Senate," if not an attack?
Elected Leading
Libs 26 24
NDP 18 15
Green 1 0
Other 0 1
Liberal government according to CBC - they say could be majority or minority
However, I only see majority
Dix must resign immediately.
Maybe he can get a job coaching the Maple Leafs.
Who the hell is voting for pipelines in this province?? Nobody.
Nobody.
Dix must resign immediately.
Is this the case, or was Dix just getting bad advice? You're sure there is no way he can turn this around?
Ironically enough, Dix is the only leader thus far who has managed to win his own seat.
David Eby ahead by about 100 votes.
For blowing a 20 point lead? Yes, he should go if results stay as they are. Even if they close the gap, still a fuck up!
Not just a twenty point lead, but against such a tired government. God it looks like the NDP may lose seats. Dix is doing worse then Tim Hudak. Think about that for a minute, worse then Tim Hudak of the Ontario PCs.
Who the hell is voting for pipelines in this province?? Nobody.
Nobody.
That isn't what it looks like to me right now at least.
Hmm while I think Dix nixing the southern pipeline was a mistake its very difficult to understand how the vote could change this much so fast. At the very least pollsters need to do exit polling and followup polls.
If anything I think we can learn is to not just run on an environmental platform. We need a full economic platform. At least this is a very strong warning on 2015 for the Fed NDP. BC is the one place environmentalism has really strong roots. And even there they just arent that strong.
Christy ClarkBC Liberal Party 4,280 44.91%
David EbyBC NDP 4,333 45.47%
Eby 53 vote lead.
I think what's going on is that the Conservative vote collapsed and that there are dozens of ridings in BC where a pylon running under the Not NDP banner could get elected. The margins of victory for some candidates are stunning. To win: John Yap who took the fall for the 'ethnicgate' scandal just weeks ago is nevertheless re-elected by a huge margin in Richmond-Steveston.
