Gawker article referred to by torontoist: http://gawker.com/a-pipe-wielding-thug-stormed-the-rob-ford-crackhouse-s...

I don't think they're making this up.

jerrym

It's also being reported in the Toronto Star following its own investigation (not simply repeating Gawker's story).

Quote:

The Star’s ongoing investigation has determined that the photograph of Ford posing with Smith and two other young men was taken in front of the garage at 15 Windsor Rd. in northern Etobicoke.

The rundown bungalow is on a pleasant street of well-kept homes a short distance from the Dixon Rd. apartment building near where the Star viewed the 90-second video.

Toronto police Det. Rob Gallant, who was investigating a shooting in the Dixon Rd. building on Tuesday, May 21, is also investigating an incident at 15 Windsor that same day, according to police at 23 Division.

According to police spokesperson Mark Pugash, at approximately 11 p.m. police responded to 15 Windsor Rd. for an assault in progress. A man forced his way inside the house and assaulted two people with a weapon. He fled on foot. A victim was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made yet. The investigation continues.

The Star also reports that Rob Ford and one of the residents of 15 Windsor Street have known each other since high school and that four neighbours have suspected for years that the house is a centre of drug  activiity.

Quote:

Residents of the house on Windsor Rd. include Mario Basso, 40; Fabio Basso, 45; and Elena Basso, 51. The house is owned by their mother, Lina, who also lives at the home. Their father, a retired bricklayer, passed away in 2009. The family came to Canada in the 1950s and have lived on the street since at least 1972. ...

A visitor to the home Wednesday said that Fabio Basso and Ford know each other from high school. David Profitt, 45, stopped by to visit the Basso family on his way to the airport. He told the Star Basso attended Scarlett Heights high school for one year. Ford also attended Scarlett Heights and the men are one year apart in age.

“I know all these guys. I grew up in Etobicoke,” said Profitt, who added he also went to high school with Ford.

Mayor Ford and other members of his staff did not respond to written questions about his presence at the house. ...

Fabio refused to comment when approached by the Star as he exited a local TD Canada Trust on Tuesday. He jumped on a bicycle and pedalled away, turning back to give an obscene gesture.

On Windsor Rd., four neighbours from different houses told the Star that they have for years had concerns of drug activity at number 15. They say the house seems to be the centre for drug activity spilling over from the nearby apartments and that young men have been seen coming and going from the house.

So far the score is:

The Fords: 25

The "Maggots": Zero

Ford stands a very good chance of not only completing his term in office, and with a little stint in rehab during his vacation time or whatever, will get re-elected as well.

Oh well, to be expected I suppose.

Now try and think of the most outrageous future actions that will be done by the Toronto mayor, and Rob Ford will probably live up to your expectations. Laughing

So the key is to get elected. What you do after you are elected does not matter. Unless you want to get re-elected. But even then...................

Rob Ford. Unstoppable?

Raids Executed In GTA, 30-40 Suspects in Custody (and vid)

http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/30-40-suspects-in-custody-as-project-travel...

"Toronto police are conducting early morning raids at two addresses that are linked to the alleged Rob Ford crack video..."

Junkyard Dog

The latest, which I discovered by turning on City TV's 24 hr. news station earlier this morning, but here it is (as usual) from the Star:

http://www.thestar.com/news/crime/2013/06/13/massive_police_raid_launche...

and Gawker (a little story they've thoughtfully entitled "Crack of Dawn!"):

http://gawker.com/cops-launch-early-morning-raid-on-ford-crack-video-gro...

In a nutshell, the cops have just completed a massive sweep of various undesirables in the Dixon Rd. area, including "visiting" the home of one of the two men who posed with Ford in the infamous Crack House photo - that would be the one who was shot but survived, not the one who was killed. Apparently, one of the evidence bags taken from his home included a laptop computer. Hmmm.

This was part of a multi-city operation, with the police targeting gang members, drug and gun runners. One of the other cities participating was Windsor, which is (as far as we know) the current location of the guy who was allegedly trying to sell the video of Ford-O smoking crack. Double hmmm.

City also mentioned that Big Brother Thug, er, Doug, has officially taken himself out of the running for Premiere in the next election. Best news I've heard all morning. Not as good as the rotten sack of shit being dragged off to a lengthy stay at Her Majesty's convenience in handcuffs, but I'll take what I can get.

And finally: Bill Blair is going to hold a press conference at noon today. Yet more fun to come?

Edit: Whoops! NDPP beat me to the punch by 6 minutes!

Hey Junkyard, yours is better, (loved the 'Crack of Dawn') besides the more the merrier...

From Police Chief Bill Blair: "Not role of police to get involved in hypotheticals" when he was asked if the mayor should be allowed to stay in office if he has a substance abuse problem.

Police Chief Bill Blair continues to be prodded by media, but he refuses to comment on whether there is any link between this investigation and Mayor Rob Ford.

Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair ends the news conference, taking one last question and it's on Mayor Rob Ford. "No comment," he replies before walking off.

Junkyard Dog

Yup. The cops knew about Slob's crack video weeks before either the Star or Gawker made it public:

http://gawker.com/cops-heard-about-mayors-crack-video-on-wiretap-weeks-b-513153021

Meanwhile, Bill Blair is refusing to officially confirm or deny that there's an ongoing criminal investigation of anyone in the Mayor's office:

https://twitter.com/ddale8/status/345214490956148737

As one of the contributors to the above thread puts it: Why wouldn't  Blair go on record here if there was no link between the raids and Ford?

And as for Ford, the raids apparently came as a complete surprise to him, because (and I quote) his "cable was out!"

http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2013/06/13/mayor_rob_ford_says_he_knows_little_of_police_raids.html

And this idiot is supposedly running the entire city.

So, what does it all mean? It would be nice to think the police are simply doing their job regardless of the political situation, but I wouldn't assume anything here. Are the cops trying to protect Ford or sink him? Who can tell?

The Daily Beast chronicles a few of His Oafship's most exciting adventures:

http://www.thestar.com/news/city_hall/2010/07/13/rob_ford_told_he_was_un...

The latter story brings to light an incident I'd seen people talking about at  Gawker's comment sections, but had never seen reported on. Evidently, Mr. Salt-of-the Earth/Stands-Up-for-the-Little Guy assaulted a student who didn't live up to Ford's lofty standards  when it came to playing football on "his" team. Nice, eh?

It's a pretty useless gesture. No one who supports a particular politician is going to turn against him just because he gets a drink tossed in his face by someone who likely hated him to begin with.

This situation that Detroit is now in perhaps is part of the reason why Ford is so popular in Toronto. Yes?

It seems that we need a different approach to governing so that those responsible including the lawyers are held accountable.

Well, despite the people voting it down, Detroit is now ruled by an "emergency manager" appointed by the governor instead of by its elected officials. Isn't that a "different approach"?

NorthReport

I was thinking of a new approach to governing whereby the current and future decision-makers (the elected politicians and the top bureaucrats)  are somehow held personally responsible for their financial fuck-ups to try and reduce this Detroit financial mess from re-occuring elswhere. But responsibility - don't worry, one percenters won't have any of that happening to them. Until the massive and growing gap between the rich and the poor is addressed however, it is only going to get progrressively worse.  Whether we like it or not, and rightly or wrongly, the over-riding reason why the BC Liberals got re-elected in BC recently is because BC voters thought the BC NDP would be poor money managers. How many times do we have to hit our heads on the wall before the pain gets to us?

Dude, I was joking. Sadly, as is usually the case with rich fuck ups who somehow make it into political office - see: Bush, George W. for the most notorious/obvious example - I don't see our asshole Mayor ever finding himself inside a prison cell for any significant period of time, or even at all...Although, you know what? In this rather unique situation, I'm not willing to commit myself to that 100%. I admit it's extremely unlikely, but Rofo's, er, 'character' is so unstable, violent and just plain out there, that anything seems possible.

Also, Jan's entirely right: If this behavior was coming from somebody on our side of the fence, the media and political elites of Toronto would almost certainly have driven the fucking fool out of City Hall by now.

Sigh. When I turned on City Tv's 24 hr. news station to get the weather this morning, they happened to be dwelling on the remarkable story of Montreal's Mayor actually being arrested for corruption. I was staring at the little screen in honest amazement...and they then immediately cut to Ford's hideous mug, with the "story" of him being "attacked." HE (gasp!) HAD A DRINK SPILLED ON HIM!!!!!! OmyGodohmyGodohmyGodohmyGod! Move over Gandhi, there's a new martyr in town!

Weird question. She has the right to counsel so why would she not hire a lawyer.

Pogo Pogo's picture

i think it is a misinterpretation.  When she says that she is going to defend herself, she means that she will answer the charges, not that she will be her own representative.

Here's a curious footnote to the raids conducted last week: Evidently, one of the higher-ups in charge of the enterprise was 23 Division Superintendent Ron Taverner, a man with long-standing ties to the Ford family:

http://www.thegridto.com/blog-post/dixon-road-post-raid-project-led-by-old-friend-of-the-fords/

No doubt any evidence collected that would have proved personally embarrassing to the Mayor will be made public in the interests of a full & transparent accountability. Undecided

Also from the Grid: Ed Keenan does a follow-up to his Billion Dollar Lie column.

Apparently, some of the Ford Nation morons have responded unfavorably to their hero being - horror of horrors -  called on his bullshit claims. It seems the rubes do not care about little inconveniences like facts or reality.

Meanwhile, I just read at Yahoo News that Mayor Applebaum of Montreal has decided to step down thanks to the charges being made against him. Seems almost like a breath of fresh air, doesn't it? I can't help but think that if the same thing were happening to a certain rump roast-necked lummox, his response would be to stamp his little feet and scream, "Fuck you! I'm the Mayor! I can do whatever I want!"
