New riding boundaries in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan's representation in Ottawa may change with new electoral boundaries.  This gives a talented candidate like Noah Evanchuk a chance to run in purely urban riding.

If this plays out the way I believe it will - NDP'er Noah Evanchuk will run in Regina-Lewvan against a new Conservative and is probably a favorite.  Ralph Goodale will run again in Wascana, but he lost a lot of votes last time around, so he's not totally a lock to win.  I'm also thinking this puts the seat of speaker-of-the-house Andrew Scheer in play if he faces a good candidate.  Scheer is probably the safest Regina MP, but I wouldn't exactly bet my house on him.

The other Conservative candidates in Saskatchewan will shift around a bit, with Ray Boughen retiring. Also wondering if Harper will use this an opportunity to cast-off some exceptionally weak MP's.

It has already happened:

Though doubtless he could have taken the new rural riding.

"Dirty fingernails" Lukiwski is running in (/to) the country:

Which leaves a Regina seat open. Which might suit a certain Mr Evanchuk down to the ground.

Kelly Block is doing likewise:

This also leaves a Saskatoon seat open. Apparently Nettie Wiebe has already announced her intention to seek the nomination in Saskatoon West.

Here's the report of the Krago Commission for Saskatchewan.  It creates two NDP-friendly seats in Saskatoon, and re-jigs Regina to give the NDP a shot at Moose Jaw/Palliser.

Canada badly needs some Saskatchewan NDPers in Ottawa. I can't help but feel that the prairie democrat perspective is sorely missing in Ottawa.

I've been waiting for any hint from Ralph Goodale if he's going to be leaving politics after the next election.

Any thoughts which way the new Wascana riding would go without Goodale on the ballot?

He'll go when he goes. Near as I can see Ralph works hard for his money, and a sensible human being is a rare enough commodity in the house. He is evidence that it doesn't always come down to what team jersey you are wearing.

As to who might take it, I don't know; it might even have to do with who decides to run. I'm far more interested in seeing energy put into unseating those overpaid marionettes on the government side of the floor.

I'm very happy to hear Nettie is looking to run again! She is so charming any time I see her interviewed.

How do you see MJ Palliser possibly going NDP?  I think that Tom Likieuski (Sp) is running in the riding because the Conservatives see it as being very safe for them.  Before MJ Palliser took in parts of Regina.  It was the Regina Lewvan area which lended its support to the NDP.  With this new riding, the MJ vote will be watered down with a HUGE rural area which sways it to the Conservatives.

The 'Krago Commission' was my attempt to come up with a 14-riding proposal for Saskatchewan that would be better for the NDP. Instead of having one winnable seat in the Regina area under the final map just released by the Electoral Boundaries Commission (Regina-Lewvan), there would be two (Palliser and Regina-Pasqua).

Ray Boughen has announced his intention not to run again.
