BC NDP Leadership Race

I agree with John Horgan who has taken himself out of the race because he is too old. Hopefully the BC NDP will choose someone, perhaps in their early forties, as their next Leader.

THE BC NDP would do well to thank Adrian for his efforts, have the Caucus appoint an Interim Leader for the next couple of years, wait for the federal election to be over, and have the Leadership vote in late 2016.

Someone new is required who is not in any way connected to the old guard.

David Eby and Nathan Cullen are the only names mentioned so far that have attracted my interest. Hopefully others will come forward that could represent a changing of the guard.

Disapppointing to say the least.

Oh well, what better way to relegate the party to the trash heap of BC politics I suppose.

Too bad no one seems to have learned anything in the aftermath of the disasterous May '13 BC NDP election fiasco.

Instead, party members will likely see a couple of retreads in the race, along with rookie MLAs like David Eby or Judy Darcy. <snip>

Don't count on much excitement once the race finally gets underway. The deck has already been stacked in favour of the incumbents in caucus, undermining the credibility of the contest.

The message seems to be: ask not what you can do for your party. With this gang, it's more like a case of asking what the party can do for them.

That about sums it up for me. Charlie Smith is a left Liberal who's more pro-environment than the BC NDP backroom but this time he gets it right. I think setting that date for the leadership election stacks the cards heavily in favour of a Farnworth winning (and thus keeping most jobs and influence at provincial office safe). It's amazing the abuse that so many members of the BC NDP are willing to put up with from this insider's cabal. Most party members just ascribe to the rhetoric and don't notice any of the pathetic job and face-saving maneuvers of the backroom. Here's to hoping the "throw the bums out" vote finds a candidate to coalesce around.

Not impressed.

Why take on a job if you are not going to do it.

Whatever this Executive may have recommended on the date, as of this evening, it is the new Council, including the new Executive, that will decide on the date of the Leadership vote.

Good. That leaves something to hope for.

Nik Nanos on how having Federal NDP MPs run for the BC NDP leadership would highlight the federal NDP's bench strength link

Nathan Cullen is out, Gregor Robertson said he was out from the beginning, so did Derek Corrigan, the Election post-mortem was thin thin gruel, this BC NDP renewal is off to a roaring start. Clear the way for the insider hacks. This has all the intrigue of a federal Liberal leadership race.
