Ontario election results

Hey folks,

I'm starting this thread so that we can specifically discuss the election results in Ontario in one place, as opposed to discussion being scattered over several threads. My goal is focused discussion and I'll open the thread shortly before polls start to close.

Enjoy!

Here is a good Election Ontario page with results updated every 90 seconds. It appears to be a whose leading running total.

Excellent summary of all three major party platforms, Rebecca!

Aristotleded24

Anyone else notice that Hudak is momentarily trailing the NDP?Tongue out

Yup. We can always hope. If the results as they stand now hold up, (teh Libs with 42 seats, 15 min in) he'll be gone soon enough regardless.

Early going is suggesting some significant Liberal gains, I'd have thought it would be closer. Yes, yes, early going...but suddenly a Liberal majority is looking a whole lot more likely. That'll put the cat in among the pigeons.

terrytowel

If Wynne wins, Hudak goes. And Horwath will stay.

If Hudak goes, Christine Elliot is the odds on favorite to replace him as PC leader.

Which means we might have all female leaders in the Ontario Legislature!

3 women leading the 3 parties with official status!

terrytowel

NDP France Gelinas of Nickel Belt has been elected.

Aristotleded24

Looking like an NDP bloodbath in Toronto. No results from Bramalea as of yet.

Fife in third place in Waterloo.

Captain Obvious

Everyone is talking about how close this election is, and how few votes separate the candidates in many ridings. There's going to be recounts...

Amusingly, I just saw a graphic with Toronto-Danforth being led by the PCs...gee, I wonder if that will hold up?Tongue out

I dearly hope Holyday goes down btw.

I said with the exception of 3 NDP seats, the Liberals would sweep the GTA. Which would make it impossible for Hudak to win even a minority.

Aristotleded24

Good results in Oshawa as of now. Fingers crossed.

Looks like Wynne knew what she was doing in targetting NDP votes. All but one of the NDP losses thus far are in the 416 area code, while the NDP appears to be holding its ground, leading in Sudbury and Windsor. Again, fingers crossed.

terrytowel

CTV and CBC has declared a Liberal government and that they have won the election.

terrytowel

We might have THREE women leading the three parties next year!

cco

Looks like the NDP has actually gained significantly in popular vote (around 5 points worth, so far), but dropped in seat count. So much for the strategic stampede.

PrairieDemocrat15

CBC says "radical Wayne" elected. He currently has a 2500 vote lead with 51% of the vote. 88 of 268 polls reporting.

As has CBC.

ETA: CBC election coverage team fawing over Wynne.

Doug

The message so far seems to be that the Tories are being punished for being too radical and the NDP are being punished for forgetting that Toronto exists.

MegB

Libs in the lead, NDP fast encroaching on the PCs. Early days.

terrytowel

NDP seats Davenport, Trinity-Spadina and Parkdale-High Park,  the Liberals are leading in all three of those ridings.

PrairieDemocrat15

Taras Natyshak declared elected by CBC. 61% of votes with 69 of 267 polls reporting. He currently has close to a 6,000 vote lead.

CBC give Peggy Sattler London West.

terrytowel

Toronto Danforth, the NDP is only 1% ahead of the Liberals!

josh

The end of Hudak! Woohoo!

PrairieDemocrat15

Jennifer French declared elected in Oshawa by CBC! How long ahs it been since the NDP (federal or provinical) has won that riding?

terrytowel

Doug Holyday defeated by Peter Milczyn

Unionist

Can DiNovo be gone??

Oh still, my beating heart!

Nothing else matters.

Hope you're right. How is Judy Bryant doing in London North Centre?

At this point, the broad parameters are pretty much locked in I'd say. The Libs are nearly at 60 seats. Yeah, still close in many of them, but I'd say a majority is nearly certain. I guess it is good that the NDP isn't dropping their net seat count overall.

There's going to be some real hate on for Toronto tomorrow from southwest/east/central Ontario.

PrairieDemocrat15

60 of 213 polls in Sarnia-Lambton reporting, Con candidate leads NDP candidate by less than 500 votes? Could it go orange?

I told you guys she was in the political fight of her life.

Dead tie. I gather this is old history long explained, but could you explain in capsule version?

Aristotleded24

NDP starting to pull ahead in Sudbury.

terrytowel

CTV has given Trinity-Spadina to the Liberals!

We just need Kenora to call in, and it looks like the worst case scenario is that the NDP comes out with the same seat count as it had going in.

And as with John Tory, once again incompetence in the PC ranks appears to allow the Liberals to slide in and get yet another majority.

ETA: Oshawa, yes! Something has gone well this evening!

PrairieDemocrat15

Could it be a Lib majority? I hope not.

CBC still singing the praises of Kathleen the Great.

Aristotleded24

Davenport is also not looking good.

Dead tie. I gather this is old history long explained, but could you explain in capsule version?

1. In Andrea's absence, she spoke in favour of Peter Shurman's motion to condemn Israel Apartheid Week, which was then being prepared on Ontario campuses, and made the filthy motion "unanimous". When challenged later by many friends, she trashed them. Horwath had to issue a statement distancing the party from this action. But DiNovo has never retracted or shown any regret to this day.

2. Even before the putsch in Kiev, DiNovo was pandering to her so-called "Ukrainian" constituents, as if they were not Canadians but Ukrainians directly involved in the pro-Western movement in Kiev, pledging her support and urging them to turn to the West, etc. etc.

The trash-bin of history is really a little too good for an opportunist shit like her.

Capsule enough?

terrytowel

Frank Graves says on CP24 is exploding saying Ontarians have made a huge mistake and will regret it the next day.

PrairieDemocrat15

NDP running a close second (33% to 40%) to Libs in Brampton-Springdale. Cons at 23%.

CBC interviewing a Con candidate Lisa McCleod who is blaming the unions.

terrytowel

CTV declares a Liberal Majority Government

They can't call Kathleen Wynne the unelected Premier anymore.

Yep. Cheers.

I've been reading your posts for a long time Unionist, though we've rarely "spoken." I always appreciate that you take principled and consistent stands. I don't always agree, but damn me, they make me think.

CBC still singing the praises of Kathleen the Great.

Right now it looks probable. Not the best outcome.

PrairieDemocrat15

Lisa Gretzky declared elected in Windsor West.

Unfortunately, CBC is giving Liberals a majority. Prepare for cuts (and possibly privatization) Ontario.

Aristotleded24

Looks like rather than the PCs getting in on a progressive vote split, the Liberals made it in on an anti-corruption vote split. Keep in mind that the Liberals didn't significantly improve their popular vote from 2011.

Yeah, I'm looking kind of forward to that actually, watching Conservative supporters have to eat their own words for the next little while. I certainly didn't vote Liberal this time out, but a result that ends up in the humiliation of Hudak and his radical supporters is a result I can live with. Short term anyway. I'm sure the Liberals will start shovelling crap down our throats soon enough, but for now, teh resounding repudiation of the right is the second best result.

I agree with you as I hope this makes that smug PC Lisa MacLeod to eat her words.

PrairieDemocrat15

Wow, I figured the NDP could take Oshawa, but did not think French would dominate as she is currently doing.

peterjcassidy peterjcassidy's picture

looks like Lib majoirty 57-with 37% of the vote  PC official oppo with 28 seats- NDP close third 22seats.

2018 Premier Horwath. You heard it here first.
