Heatwave!

A heat and humidity record for Montréal on the 1st of July - which as you know, is Moving Day in Québec (as well as Canada Day for those so inclined). Very exhausted movers.

Normally the large Norway Maple in front of my home office window keeps me cool, but yesterday was too much for it, despite a large intake of chilled tap water and a bit of fizzy mineral water to settle my tummy.

I woke up today with puffy eyes and dark circles, although I had neither got drunk nor spent hours watching the footie in a smoke-filled room (which I probably would have done otherwise, as I have an Argentine friend who is quite the smoker). I feel more normal now, and there is a gentle breeze.

It is Ramadan now, and yesterday must have been hard on those observing the fast and drinking no water.

Despite everything, this is much less horrific than our past winter's weather!

Toronto is brutal today as well. Hudmid as can be and they say we could get thunderstorms later

I just stayed inside with the curtains closed, unlike some of my unlucky friends who were moving (and doing it themselves). Weren't we supposed to get some rain? On Monday theweathernetwork.com was calling it an 80% chance of thunderstorms. Never materialized.

Yes, cco, they were announcing thunderstorms and I was looking forward to them clearing out the extreme humidity (humidex of 42 degrees, which is part of the explanation for why I was more uncomfortable yesterday than when living in Italy where 40c is common in the summer - the other part of the explanation is that I'm more than 20 years older...)

Around here anyway, I've seen fewer people moving. There is a dearth of rental housing now, and a surfeit of condos being built. I'm sure some of the latter will wind up being rented out. There are two large projects under construction on Boulevad St-Laurent near me

funny, I helped move my son on Saturday, when it was very hot, well over 30C with clear blue skies and blazing sun; temptingly, there is a great public pool right there (Fullum and Rachel) but no-go

we stopped our labours for one hour midday, conveniently timed for Brazil-Chile including extra time and kicks ... cannot imagine playing in that heat

but the real humidity started Sunday and over that night to Monday a.m. was just stifling, then a cat fight in the alley added to my sleeplessness; really affected my concentration, too, on Monday; a steamy Canada Day prevented us from going to enjoy any parades etc. Tuesday, just too hot

back to the usual 25C or so for this weekend, though

January or July, all we do around here is complain about the weather, when in fact April thru June were very nice

In ontario's lower mid north (Bancroft) it was very hot, very humid and buzzing with black flies, deer flies and Mosquitos. I aspire to mass murder of theses buzzing carnivores! They bite me through bug suits!

Huh? The only alert Harper's weather service shows is [url=http://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/qc-147_metric_e.html]heat[/url].

And only 30% chance of rain today.

You may have to water your lawn again.

Hope you all enjoyed your hot weather. In Winnipeg yesterday, the temperature topped out around 17 degrees, and that was after several days of heavy rain that caused flash flooding and states-of-emergency throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Yes, but it is still warmer here than in Winnipeg now, after our nice little rainshower. I do see that it will be cool tonight - tomorrow morning - that will feel chilly after 33! I do want some more heat so we can have our field tomatoes.
