Dear Babble: Please have links open in new windows

Sorry if this has already been discussed elsewhere, but I'd like to request to the powers that be, that links babblers post in their comments open in new browser windows.

Currently, if I want to view a link someone has posted, I click on it, copy and paste the URL in a new window, then go back to the original window and hit the back button to get back to the babble thread. Rather cumbersome.

Having links open in new threads would make sense, as it is a 'discussion' board, not a reading board, and I'm sure I'm not alone wanting to navigate back and forth between the discussion and the links being discussed.

I'm not sure what browser you use but with Chrome, (and firefox i think) you can just right click the link and choose "Copy link address" and that puts the link on the clipboard for you. Or you can hold cntl when you click (if windows, option key on mac) and the link will open in a new tab.

Now if only we can get them to put the page selector at the top and the bottom of a page! Sealed

I find it handy to just set a link to open in a new window from the 'insert/edit link' pop up box that appears when I click on the 'insert/edit' button on the toolbar that appears above the text box I'm drafting my post in.  In that pop up box three options appear in the area called 'target,' which offers a drop down menu comprising 'not-set,' 'open link in same window,' and 'open link in a new window.'

I right-click on the link and select "open link in new tab". I think that's available in most browsers?

It's available on the five browsers I have installed : IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Torch.

In addition to "open link in new tab" you can  select "open link in new window" (which is what was wanted) or "open link in private/incognite window" (which defeats most media paywall barriers such as The Star, G&M, NatPo, etc.

Oh I totally agree with the OP - the current default has always annoyed me intensely... and yes IF, it has been raised before - personally I cannot remember seeing a single post in favor of the current (open in same window) option but, like a lot of suggestions that are offered on how to improve the functionality of babble, it seems to fall on deaf ears, or just get lost in the great electronic void.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll be trying them soon.
