The GOP Reaction to Obama's Immigration Order Will Be Way More Damaging Than They Realize

There are several reasons why Obama’s executive action on immigration has put Republicans in a terrible bind. There’s the fact that conservatives are likely to respond by demanding a hardline position from the party’s 2016 nominee, torpedoing his or her electability. There’s the growing risk that conservative anger will force Republicans to do something epically stupid in the near term, like shut down the government.

Both of these reactions would be damaging. But, in fact, there’s a far deeper kind of damage that conservatives are about to inflict on themselves. It has the potential to set the party back years.

Anyone who’s followed politics during the Obama era has probably noticed that conservatives love to couch their positions in the language of process. So, for example, conservatives rarely admit they want to disenfranchise poor people and African Americans. They talk about the scourge of voter fraud, and the cosmic unfairness of letting ineligible people cast votes. (Never mind that documented cases of voter fraud are about as frequentas space-craft landings on comets.)

Or, take Obamacare. Conservatives rarely make the argument, which many seem to believe, that the program was essentially a pander to key Democratic constituencies, like the sick, the poor, and single women. Now that the program is working beyond expectations, they even shy away from criticizing the sort of risk-pooling that allows the previously uninsured to obtain insurance. Instead, they obsess over any indication that the law was passed through trickery. (See here for why that’s utter nonsense.)

Politically, it’s easy to understand why Republicans argue at the level of methodology, rather than owning up to their underlying beliefs. Saying you think too many black people vote, or that Democrats give too much free stuff to poor people, really isn’t the way to win elections these days. Just ask Mitt Romney, one of the few national politicians who didn’t grasp the need to conceal hisactual views on these questions.

Bullshit excuses for Torture. Those USA military types consent to waterboarding, and they know you'll stop if asked, these people did not.

Millions of people are into S&M too, but that doesn't mean you could take a whip to POWs either. Consent is key here.

Not a word from any of the annointed ones in Parliament about the nature of the close and ongoing relationship to the US intelligence industry.  And since everything is pretty much the same in this country politically speaking, from one cabal to the next, there's no one to express concern or outrage on behalf of anyone.  We live in societies where communities have been tortured in secret by the police for so long, thanks to the myopia of the corporate media, and where in Poland of all places, new camps of another sort were opened up for business.

You are right - the obscene silence of our so-called 'representatives' is very telling. Of course we should never forget, that as Hannibal Lector's helpful little demi-devils in this criminal co-conspiracy, calling instead for harsher sanctions on Syria, Russia, Libya etc, they got /get in return, to share some of the imperial table-scraps...It will be up to ordinary Canadians to register a response or not, not America's good doggies in Ottawa...

'The US Attorney General is under a legal duty to bring criminal charges against those responsible.

It is now time to take action. The individuals responsible for the criminal conspiracy revealed in today's report must be brought to justice, and must face criminal penalties commensurate with the gravity of their crimes.'

Likely not.  There is no mechanism available in the world today that has been able to address Israel's crimes against humanity.  As much as we might welcome it, I don't expect an uprising in Canada or anywhere else anytime soon that would seek to bring our leading criminals to justice.

They reveal their bloody hands every waking day.  It's not the revealing that is pertinent here, it's that it goes on and on in numerous configurations.

NDPP

Like you, I don't expect any 'uprising' here anytime soon either. These things have to be organized for and this isn't being done. US Presidents and other war criminals come and go in my city with more people lined up to pay outrageous ticket costs to hear them speak, then protest their appearance. Some countries still have civil societies which are capable of some response to such things. Apparently this isn't one of them. USA has more activism - it will be interesting to see if this goes anywhere.

Congress Seeks Netanyahu's Direction  -  by Robert Parry

https://consortiumnews.com/2015/01/22/congress-seeks-netanyahus-direction/

"Conservative Pat Buchanan once got in trouble by calling Capitol Hill 'Israeli Occupied Territory', but even he might not imagine what's happening now - with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu invited to address a joint session of Congress to decry President Obama's foreign policy.

Boehner made clear that Netanyahu's third speech to a joint session of the US Congress - scheduled for Feb 11 - was meant to counter Obama's  assessments. 'There is a serious threat in the world and the President last night kind of papered over it,' Boehner said on Wednesday. 'And the fact is that there needs to be a more serious conversation in America about how serious the threat is from radical Islamic jihadists and the threat posed by Iran."

Washington is In Revolt Against Obama  -  by Thierry Meyssan

John Pilger wrote:
Today, the world's greatest single campaign of terror entails the execution of entire families, guests at weddings, mourners at funerals. These are Obama's victims. According to the New York Times, Obama makes his selection from a CIA "kill list" presented to him every Tuesday in the White House Situation Room. He then decides, without a shred of legal justification, who will live and who will die. His execution weapon is the Hellfire missile carried by a pilotless aircraft known as a drone; these roast their victims and festoon the area with their remains. Each "hit" is registered on a faraway console screen as a "bugsplat".

"For goose-steppers," wrote the historian Norman Pollock, "substitute the seemingly more innocuous militarisation of the total culture. And for the bombastic leader, we have the reformer manque, blithely at work, planning and executing assassination, smiling all the while."

Uniting fascism old and new is the cult of superiority. "I believe in American exceptionalism with every fibre of my being," said Obama, evoking declarations of national fetishism from the 1930s. As the historian Alfred W. McCoy has pointed out, it was the Hitler devotee, Carl Schmitt, who said, "The sovereign is he who decides the exception." This sums up Americanism, the world's dominant ideology. That it remains unrecognised as a predatory ideology is the achievement of an equally unrecognised brainwashing.

Why the rise of fascism is again the issue.

EXCEPTIONALISM ON THE ROPES?

Quote:
Recently a man, expecting to lose his job at the very least, landed a little bicycle-helicopter at the U.S. Capitol to try to deliver requests to clean the money out of elections. He cited as his motivation the "collapse of this country." Another man showed up at the U.S. Capitol with a sign reading "Tax the 1%" and proceeded to shoot himself in the head. Polls suggest those are not the only two people who see the problem -- and, it should be noted, the solution.

"Clearly the United States is engaged in what can only be described as an ongoing series of wars. Obama Goes Full Stalin: Tells Secret Court To Ignore Law He Signed 4 Hours Earlier, Extend Illegal NSA Surveillance

Just when we thought the absurdity that marks every single day of Obama's reign could not possibly be surpassed, we learned that 4 hours (3 hours and 47 minutes to be precise) after the US president vowed to sign a new law banning bulk data collection by the NSA (named, for purely grotesque reasons, the "USA Freedom Act"), the Obama administration asked the secret Fisa surveillance court to ignore a federal court that found bulk surveillance illegal and to once again grant the National Security Agency the power to collect the phone records of millions of Americans for six months.

Information has been available on-line, from RT, Counterpunch, it was everywhere, really everywhere. But to actually know would mean that one could not hide behind his or her ignorance anymore;

to know would mean that one was obliged to act."

Mr. Magoo

I know this is exceptionally unlikely to happen, but the U.S. would be a good candidate to split.  Right along the Mason-Dixon, with perhaps a two or three year transitional period in which Americans north or south of the new line can choose to emigrate to the other side, if that suits them.  Alaska and Hawaii could choose who to align with on the basis of a referendum.

Of course the Northern States would need a new flag with, if nothing else, fewer stars.   The Southern States seem to be good to go.

They woudl fight another civil war before they would split.

More likely they will face more social upheaval and increasing anarchy.
