When ‘bozo eruptions’ are Conservative party policy

Recent musings by Conservative MPs are offensive to many Canadians but stray from the party line only in the use of intemperate language.

On the surface, it would appear Harper is also dealing with some incoming fire from a caucus that suddenly seems to include a number of plain speakers who have decided that honesty is not ill considered.

But Harper isn’t doing much ducking.

To use the Manning definition, these would appear to be deeply held views from some caucus members, but the difference between Manning’s futile firefighting in the old days of his Reform party, today’s plain-speaking Conservatives appear to be merely taking their cue from the boss.

We are dealing with government MPs who are mixing alarmist rhetoric, racist comments and the “get off my lawn” mentality that constantly tripped up Manning.

This week, Conservative MP Larry Miller crafted a new take on Conservative immigration policy in a radio interview with CFOS radio in his riding of Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound.

“Stay the hell where you came from,” he advised would-be immigrants who come to Canada because it is the best country in the world and then want to change things before they are officially Canadian.

Mr. Magoo

I read that piece earlier today and found it a bit odd that they refer both to "bozo eruptions", and also (in the photo caption and the URL) "bimbo eruptions".

Newspaper articles & URL's will sometimes use certain phrases interchangeably.

I see it a lot these days.  There can often be minor editorial variations between a caption vs. an article title or from one website or media source to another.

For some strange reason, in English "bimbo" has come to mean a young, attractive but airheaded or superficial woman.

In Italian, of course, "bimbo" is the masculine and "bimba" the feminine for a small child (and either can be used for an adult either affectionately or insinuating that someone is acting like a baby).

Aren't "bimbo eruptions" supposedly responsible and mature men acting like fools with young women? While "bozo eruptions" are clownish - or bigoted - language?

Yes, I agree that even these eruptions are controlled, and signals sent out by Stevie and his circle.

I dont agree that they are 'controlled' or deliberated.

What Tim Harper is saying is that they are inevitable manifestations of the strategy and nastiness coming from the centre... which is intended to remain veiled. But the unfolding of the strategy [inevitably] empowers the furthest out idiots of the bunch, who blurt out what they are not supposed to say.

It is ugly. But the siver lining is just desserts for our vicious PM.

Could be. I was just thinking of what an utter control freak Harper is.

KenS

He is.

But it is very far from realistic to go from that to seeing everything that appears as a manifestation of The Plan.

That Plan is ugly and brutal... but it is also a very blunt instrument.

"left" is neo-liberal. "right" is fascist. This is the modern Canadian political spectrum.
