Elizabeth May on her own performance - She was truly amazin'

NDP - we will let the viewers make up their own minds

Pondering

Harper doing well so far I think.

quizzical

Harper is lying a lot and i know squat about politics but yet i hear his lies

Pierre C yr

First segment had May (doh) first Harper 2nd Mulcair 3rd and Trudeau 4rth imo.

Mulcair and Trudeau need to lose the canned talking points.

Pierre C yr

Liz May is the best so far.

Pierre C yr

Harper's hair is creeping me out...

onthelake

Paul Wells has exceeded my expectations. No one else so far...

Pondering

May is doing best so far.

I think Harper is unconvincing because all three other leaders are challenging his "facts".

Mulcair's and Trudeau's styles are so different it is difficult to rate them.

Solid performance from Mulcair.

I think Trudeau is doing well on his primary task of proving he is a contender.

Needs a firm moderator, really , the cross-talking turns people off esp casual political viewers and low-information voters

if you believe Harper's lies I suppose he won 1st rd, not. its not hard to make up shit and insist it is true.

DaveW

Harper will not look at Justin, the scorn is astounding

DaveW

And May is right that every leader is ambiguous about pipelines

Pierre C yr

Mulcair is remarkably restrained. Trudeau lying about energy east and how Mulcair has addressed it. Actualite had to correct itself in its quote of Mulcair on the issue. He's been perfectly consistent on it.

Pierre C yr

Mulcair is consistent on pipelines. As is May. Trudeau is almost out of sight here this time...

Pierre C yr

Hmm I give the 2nd segment to Mulcair, May then Harper then Trudeau (more canned talking points).

What is a lie?

Unionist

May is impressive. Not the first time.

onthelake

It is obvious to me, if no one else, that BS is prefaced by clearly or let's be clear'.

Pierre C yr

He lied about his being inconsistent in french canada vs english on energy east. He's been consistent. Ive followed him in french as much as in english and he never changed on this issue.

Prospective voters don't need these kind of cheap shots

Trudeau just told a whopper about Mulcair #macdebate #elxn42

quizzical

too funny Harper says Mulcair is a federalist but yet tries to say not.

Pierre C yr

Harper winning this 'democracy' round then the senate question comes up... cue wavering voice...

takeitslowly

Mulcair goads Trudeau into saying what margin would be acceptable for separatism. Trudeau won’t answer.

What’s your number Justin?  Mulcair to Trudeau

Trudeau to Mulcair

“I’m not questioning your patriotism.” “You’re siding with the separatist movement in Quebec.”

“No prime minister should make it easier for Quebec to separate from Canada,” Trudeau says

quizzical

he paused and held his eyes wide open  at the camera  pretending innocence

quizzical

"stop me before i appoint again"  it was pretty damn funny!!! give it to Trudeau for being funny anyway

Pierre C yr

Trudeau says he wants to reform not abolish the senate due to not wanting to open the constitution. You cant reform the senate without opening the constitution... Trudeau here is the only one being allowed to get whoppers through unopposed...

Pierre C yr

Hmm Harper then Mulcair then Trudeau then May on that round...

Pondering

The senate can be reformed without opening the constitution.

I think May is winning by far.

quizzical

no lol....lies lies lies, talk about beetle juice Harper.....

wage zombie

I think the 3rd round was Mulcair's best so far and Harper's weakest so far.

wage zombie

Both Mulcair and Trudeau missed their chance to talk about electoral reform.

Unionist

So Elizabeth May takes a more consistent anti-intervention role than any of them (e.g. Libya). Impressive, whether she "means" it or not, it needed to be said.

Unionist

Mulcair: "We will of course support NATO, we are proud members of NATO." And we support Ukraine aginst Russian aggression.

wage zombie

Mulcair just rubber stamped NATO-endorsed missions. :(

socialdemocrati...

This is looking basically like a stalemate. Not that many voters are watching live anyway. Maybe a marginal victory for Mulcair or Harper since they benefit the most from a lack of splashy moments.

jerrym

Tonight's debate provides the Cons with their next ad on Trudeau in relation to bill 51: "Perhps I was naive ....".

DaveW

Boy is this calm and gray, compared to roller coaster GOP debate, whoa, wackier and louder by miles...

jjuares

May did well and so did Mulcair. Trudeau interrupted and was rude.

Pierre C yr

Trudeau has good presentation. A lot better then he has had so far. But its almost all canned talking points. Harper wins the foreign segment on Isis. Tho Mulcair has a good showing on Ukraine (May and Trudeau not at all?). May and Mulcair on c-51 win easily.  Last bits put Mulcair on top.

Closing statements. Harper lies his ass on EI no one wants to raise premiums. Canned stuff... Mulcair canned facts already stated in the debate... well meaning but -sigh-... May knocks it out of the park then canned promo... Trudeau insufferable canned...

Winner May. But like Duceppe whois also very good in debates she's all out due to no restraint due to nothing to lose syndrome...

Pierre C yr

Like what. You cant elect them without opening the constitution.

Pondering

Winner = May but the rest I don't know. For the rest I can't tell how other people will react. I can't be impartial. I think they all did fairly well.

Unionist

I agree May won. But Trudeau was pretty artificial. And on war and peace, pretty scary stands by 3 parties.

wage zombie

I'd give May an A and Mulcair, Trudeau and Harper B's.

Pierre C yr

Harper's a pro. Been at it too long so he's hard to beat even with the truly rotten record that he has. Its why next time Mulcair needs to be more aggressive. He held back waaay too much. And not just on Harper. He has to stop worrying about the angry tom thing.

Very Far Away

IMHO, May was the winner of the debate.

jjuares

The thing I appreciated about May was she had info that the others didn't mention. I don't like the Greens or May though.

Pierre C yr

The post debate media scrum is disgusting. May and Althia going after Mulcair on Kinder Morgan while giving Trudeau a pass though he also supports it then quickly praising him on the SC issue. Couldnt be a more vile hypocritical love in.

May can be good unscripted but by giving Trudeau a pass, not a single comment on him the entire debate, she sinks the greens. Why vote for them if Trudeau, though he has more positions that are contrary to her own than the NDP, is never criticized and seems to be giving an unspoken blessing to him by her.

But Mulcair, if he chose to be unscripted as well, can be just as good. Ive seen him do it. It happens and May loses whatever edge she has.

socialdemocrati...

May attacks Mulcair because he's leading in BC, and she is most competitive in ridings with NDP MPs. Since the Liberals and Conservatives are both pro Keystone, there aren't many voters to convert from those parties. She has more pro-environment votes to gain by tarnishing the NDP's environmental record. Cooperating with the NDP might be better for the environment, but attacking the NDP is better for the Green Party.

Welcome to party politics.

Ken Burch

I wish Mulcair hadn't gone hawkish on defense.  It's not like he has to carry Texas, for God's sakes.
