Unfortunately, this murderous woman-hating so-called "artist" is still scheduled to perform at Osheaga. He should be barred at the border.

Quote:

Maybe this Action Bronson geezer hates women because he's a fat slob that women are generally uninterested in.

But isn't most rap music mysoginist in nature?

Hell,a lot of old blues and country songs are mysoginist as well.

Unionist

I'd have to agree with you, alan.

How about we focus on Mr. Bronson and his words and actions?

I think we are better off without the stereotypes - from body image, and so-called unattractive people being more likely to be misogynist (and that that hate is somehow caused by women's reactions) - to the notion that certain types of music, in this case music that is predominantly non-white and non-mainstream, are inherently misogynist.

There are lots of rappers doing their best to challenge that stereotype.

And speaking of Bronson, NXNE cancelled his Toronto gig not too long ago, after a similar protest:

When did country music become 'non-white'?

And genres of music can be labeled as misogynist, including music I sit and listen to.

It's all relative.

You're saying that Bronson gets no "Action"?

(sorry...it was right there).

I said "in this case", and yes, it is usually rap that gets singled out, for that very reason.

Again, my point is that this is about this fellow's actions, not his style of music, not how he looks, and certainly not about whether or not women pay enough attention to him.

Nobody made him do this.

And this asshole (Roosh V) was met today with a demonstration against rape culture. Even the mayor tweeted that he was not welcome in Montréal.

And then there was that guy in Beloeil who (allegedly) killed his pregnant spouse...

I'm amused by the insinuation that Mayor Coderre, or anyone in the current Québec government, has anything remotely to do with the "radical left".

He is apparently trying to make a stop on his tour in Toronto.  Venue will not be announced until the day before to prevent lead time for petitioning their venue not to allow them.

I hope Roosh comes to Winnipeg, i'd love the chance to confront him face to face

Why does this douche fancy himself a 'pick up artist'

He's certainly not the most attractive person you'll meet.

I think he should be able to talk...and be mocked and humiliated.

If we want to be rational then I guess it comes down to "does his so-called strategy kind of work"?

If it kind of does then I'm afraid he kind of is a pick up artist.

These guys are like diet gurus. His support for rape is based on women denying men their rights since we got all uppidy. If his pick-up lines worked he wouldn't need to promote rape.

lagatta

Now the diet gurus are into "cleanses", whatever that means. I'm sure he's come up with something as screwy to justify misogyny and violence against women. He does say he likes to hit on females with eating disorders. His views on biology are simplistic to say the least. Actually, when some people lived to be grandparents, that was a huge progress for early humans. People over hot babe age are not "biologically useless".

Brachina

I done some research on roosh v and even most pickup artists and MRAs and MGTOWS seem to think the guy is an asshole, only his personality cult seems to care for him much.

The only real defence I've seen of his outside of his fans, seems to be not so much support as condemnation on a woman who smashed a glass over his head and put him in the hospital because he made a pass on her. Violence isn't the answer.

What does his appearance have to do with anything, I'm not familiar with his music, but attacking his weight is cheap and insulting to him, but also insulting to others who have weight issues. And mocking someone because they might not have lots of sex is juivenile and sexist, having a lack of sexual partners does not make him a less valueable human being.

We claim to be more evovled and progressive here on rabble, but we resort trying to humiliate someone based on appearance and level of sexual activity. This is what I expect of someone in high school, not in this esteemed venue, Alan your better then that.

Brachina

Let me make it clear this not an endorsement of Action Bronson, I haven't listened to rap since MC Hammer, so I have no opinion on this person.

Action Bronson is a "murderous" misogynist now?

I think this guy makes good music. Is there problematic stuff in his lyrics? Absolutely. But the same is true of so many rappers, including Kanye West - why not seek to bar them from performing as well? Because Bronson is an easier target, a relative nobody. He deserves better than to be lumped in with the likes of Roosh V.

Yes. Not "now". Since at least 2011. Have you seen Brunch? I'm not going to link to it. But I trust Erica Shiner's description (in the linked site):

Quote:
[Brunch] depicts Bronson as he “cooks a meal over a woman’s dead body, rolls her up in a carpet, throws her in his trunk, and proceeds to violently stab her when he discovers she’s still alive." ... [...] But the “Brunch” video is far, far beyond your average garden-variety musical misogyny. Bronson does exactly what Shiner describes, but she also left out the part where he calls the woman “[redaceted]” and “[redacted]” before he stabs her, pulls out some of her hair and then spits on her.

You can enjoy all this music if you like. But please respect also the feelings of those who would like to consign the likes of Bronson to the toilet where he belongs. If people like him, and those who profit off his murderous rants, come to realize that there is no money to be made in the murder and rape of women, then perhaps they will stop. It helped the world get rid of the apartheid regime in South Africa, after all.
