Why isn't this getting more press?

The Council of Canadians, which leads the Canadian campaign against the TPP and other reckless trade agreements, is concerned that the “essence and mandate” of both the CBC and Canada Post “are being traded away in favour of private corporate profit” under the TPP.

Maybe because the press is in the tank for TPP and the other so-called trade agreements.

https://www.popularresistance.org/mega-trade-deal-would-make-most-americ..., add this. And don't forget Justin's already put the whip on; there'll be no free vote for Liberals on TPP. He's part of the 1% He has no idea of what real Canadians go through, claims sympathy but will do nothing to stop it. He will not make our lives better. Liberals screw Canadians whenever they have the chance. That's how they and their supporters, like all the LPC sycophants on this board, roll! Screw what's good for people, we're the Lieberals! We ALWAYS, know best!

AC, you don't seem to realize that a whipped vote can be against something not just for something.

The worse it is the better it is for those who want to stop it.

CETA hasn't been ratified even though we have been told for years that it is a done deal, signed, just waiting to be ratified. So why isn't it happening? All I can think is that countries in Europe are having second thoughts, maybe they realize it's so extreme that people will revolt against it and kick them out of office. Something is stopping them. And why isn't Canada ratifying it?

If TPP is a done deal, why not release the text? Harper said something about other countries being involved, but so what? If they have all agreed to a final text and it has to be released before it is ratified what's the problem?

Neither CETA nor TPP are done deals. Trudeau stated that all the premiers will be consulted and it will be debated in parliament. The NDP has an opportunity to redeem itself in opposing TPP. They can look to the Council of Canadians for the details.

Just two weeks before the election, Trudeau promised "a full and open public debate" on the Trans-Pacific Partnership and highlighted the imperative to "defend Canadian interests during the TPP’s ratification process – which includes defending supply management, our auto sector, and Canadian manufacturers across the country."

Are you against a public debate?

It is unlikely to be a whipped vote against. With little time to seriously examine this Trudeau has already agreed with Japan to promote this.

"Justin Trudeau must read quickly, seeing as he promised not to take a position on the TPP before vetting final text."

Justin is a traitor to the country, but no surprise there.

There is no quote stating that Trudeau said he would ratify it. Even if he agreed to promote it, which I doubt, he also committed to debate here in Canada.

From the article below it looks like Japan is pushing hard on it so I am not surprised it was raised in the courtesy call. The probably also talked about BC's natural gas. It was a diplomatic call. I'm not surprised if they mention the top issues between the countries.

http://www.nationalobserver.com/2015/10/21/news/japan-eager-face-time-tr...

A White House statement on Monday's telephone call between Trudeau and U.S. President Barck Obama said they discussed "the need to move forward with implementing the high standards" of the TPP.

"I was encouraged to see ... in the telephone conversation between Mr. Trudeau and President Obama they agreed in principle on the importance of the TPP," said Monji.

"I understand that Liberals are traditionally free trade people. So I hope that the new government will approve the TPP."

Abe also wants to bend Trudeau's ear on some non-TPP matters, including starting a steady long-term supply of liquefied natural gas from British Columbia's coast to his country, as well as some potential military co-operation.

"Canada is a potential LNG exporter to Japan and a very good one because Canada is a very stable country, politically and economically. And also there's no choke point during the transportation from Canada to Japan."

There is nothing new here. Trudeau already expressed his enthusiasm for trade when he stated that we would have to see the text and debate it in parliament before approving it.

I'm more interested in Obama wanting to "implement the high standards of TPP" right away. It seems like he really wants this deal and what "high standards"? What's that supposed to mean? I wonder if he is going to try to sell it as increasing regulation on product standards.

I am surprised there is so much trust in the MSM when we know that they sensationalize and paraphrasing is a favorite tool. Instead of keeping that in mind, you take it a step farther to imply that he has already made up his mind.

This is the equivalent of warning Obama that we are pulling out of the bombing mission. They didn't work out the date. We don't know if Trudeau is going to let them finish the last few months.

I recall many posters saying that Trudeau couldn't come back. You underestimated him then and you are still underestimating him. You refuse to believe, or even consider, that he has values and does want to make Canada a better country even if you think his way is misguided. He is not Harper in sheeps clothing.

Trudeau may well fully support TPP and force it to pass on a whipped vote but I think it's premature to condemn him for it.

Pondering, the TPP will result in increased wages for the top 10% and reduced wages for everyone else, take away the abllity of governments to govrern, increase the cost of helath care, and reduce unrestricted access to the Interent. It is in no way premature to condemn him for it. In fact, this is the ONLY way to force him not to sign it. Stop spinning ANYTHING he does as good; it simplly isn't. This kind of unfinching support of ANYTHING he does just shows how no one on this site should take ANYTHING you say with seriousness. Stop being such a cheerleader. You and Trudeau will own this disaster if it passes, and make no mistake about it, it WILL be a disaster, and YOU, and Trudeau, will be PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS HARMUL effects. EVERY, LAST, ONE OF THEM!

How can you even wirte that. He's whipping it. A debate is meaningelss, more spin and fluff, and YOU KNOW IT. I've told you so may times before and will tell you again, you aren't fooling ANYONE. You aren't that smart!

Seriouslly, the defence of this horrible deal on this board by the boards many Lib Sycophants and their outuright, deliberate, unthinking, ill considered, unconditional support of their leader in the light of the TPP's PROVEN shortcomings, should make any well meaning, "progressive" (I HATE that word) to wonder why they would EVER the support. Its OBVIOUS that it DOESN'T MATTER what is shown to be the truth about the TPP, Le Dauphin's army of unflinching loyalists will follow, unthinkingly, ever one of his orders. The NDP blew this election SO BADLY. Maybe the TPP's passing will actually BE the NDP's FAULT, for not standing up and doing what was right. There was an article that I posted that CLEARLY shows only the top 10% will see their wages rise, and at the same time, that the poorest majority of Canadians will continue to so their wages fall, as they fall even further behind. The Libs are relentless, like the Russians were in their defense of Moscow on this board, they will fight and never give up. The NDP has got to learn to fight and stand up. The NDP is the ONLY political voice that CAN do. Christ, given how Barlown, and leadnow and whomever else you want to name called out parties voting for C51 but failed to endorse the NDP shows how badly the game is rigged and that the Libs are really the voices of the Canadian elite inlcluding the faux "progressive" elite. This election was a true watershed. It looks like Junor will be able to finsihe the destruction of this country his daddy started. What G-d damn mess!
