Trudeau @ G20: Will He Keep His Campaign Promise To Telll Off Vladimir Putin 'To His Face?'

Justin Trudeau Says He Would Tell Off Vladimir Putin 'To His Face' If He Becomes PM

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-election-trudeau-putin-1.3268798

"Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau says he would tell off Russian President Vladimir Putin 'directly to his face' if he becomes prime minister.

Trudeau accuses Putin of being 'dangerous' in eastern Europe, 'irresponsible and harmful' in the Middle East and 'unduly provocative' in the Arctic.

'Canada needs to continue to stand strongly with the international community pushing back against the bully that is Vladimir Putin,' he said during a campaign stop in Toronto.

'If I have the opportunity in the coming months to meet with Vladimir Putin, I will tell him all this directly to his face because we need to ensure that Canada continues to stand strongly for peace and justice in the world...."

"Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's unexpected baptism of fire in international statesmanship began Saturday when he arrived at the G20 Summit in Turkey..."

Vladimir Putin will also be there.

The time has now come. All of Canada will now watch and wait to see if their Prime Minister keeps his promise...??

"Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Barack Obama have held talks on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Antalya Turkey. The US and Russia must cooperate in fighting Islamic State in Syria, Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council said at a news conference.

'It should be our common aim to coordinate our actions against Daesh (IS) and for sure cooperation behind the US and Russia is a crucial one,' Tusk agreed. The G20 has to boost efforts to cut off financing to terrorists, Tusk said on Sunday. Leaders of the BRICS countries expressed hope that agreements on the beginning of a political settlement in Syria would be met..."

Justin Trudeau Gets Rock Star Welcome At G20, Faces Questions on Canada's Role in ISIS Fight

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/g20-turkey-trudeau-1.3319803

"This is the best G20 I've ever been to,' Trudeau quipped at one point during a working lunch. He also met briefly with Obama and had a warm conversation with the US president, Trudeau's aides said.

According to the aides, when asked what he would do first as prime minister, Trudeau indicated he would cut middle-class taxes - to which Obama responded laughing, saying that it sounded pretty good..."

Obviously the aides' version of JT's 'Rock Star Welcome' doesn't extend to his position in the G20 official photo, where he is so far from the center as to be almost offstage.

AKIN: As this world turns more hawkish on ISIS, Canada Has A Dove in Trudeau

http://www.edmontonsun.com/2015/11/15/akin-canada-has-a-dove-in-trudeau

"The bad guys in global diplomatic circles these days are the Russians...Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Barack Obama and Canada's newly minted PM Justin Trudeau will all be around the same table starting Sunday here at the annual Summit of the Group of 20 nations.

Former federal Liberal cabinet minister Ujjal Dosanjh tweeted 'Do Paris attacks change Canadian position? Should they? I believe they should.'

What will Trudeau do? Will he remember his commitment to pull Canada's fighter jets out of the Middle East?"

Will he confront Vladimir Putin 'to his face' as promised or was that merely for the benefit of the Russophobic rubes back home?

8th degree black belt in karate?  I had heard he is a 4th dan black belt in judo, but I wasn't aware of karate.  Hmm, time to duckduckgo.com ....

Quote:
In a letter to Putin, the federation said the Kyokushin-kan International Honbu decided to award him an eighth-dan, or eighth-degree, black belt for his "contribution in promoting Kyokushin-kan karate in Russia."

I think we can take the karate off his CV.  Seems it's an honourary degree, rather than anything serious.  He does certainly have legitimate judo skills, though it would be interesting to know when exactly he was awarded a black belt in it.  If it was after he became president, then possibly it was a case of a blue belt being honourarily awarded a 4th dan black belt for "contribution in promoting" judo.  I'm leaning toward thinking his claim to a black belt in judo is legit, but I'm not certain.

Does Justin Trudeau have judo skills?  His father took judo, and he spoke of accompanying his kids in judo classes sometimes.  PET was a brown belt in judo.  I'm not sure what level, if any, Justin received.  Certainly Justin Trudeau took boxing and is reasonably good at it.  As we recently saw with the Rousey vs. Holm match, while judo is a very effective skill to have for winning fights, boxing too is very effective (particularly kick boxing), and can sometimes outdo judo (and sometimes not, depends).

So, while I feel that in a mixed martial arts fight (MMA) that Putin would be the favourite to win against Trudeau, I wouldn't completely rule Trudeau out.

The title of this thread made me lol. Just like Harper,Putin's response to Canada will be like smacking dead a mosquito. Please. Don't show up to a knife fight armed only with a queue de castor.

I think it's the need for solid MMA skills, and particularly a good ground game, that's going to end up biting Bernie Sanders in the end.

After he tells off Putin I presume he will have a go at the Saudi King.  It will make me proud.

I wish our leaders didn't have to engage in this sort of macho, testosterone-inflated rhetoric.

They all do it to some extent, but Harper really started it in a big way.

I think Trudeau & the Liberals felt that they needed to show Trudeau was tough since Harper was basically questioning Trudeau's masculinity.

So Trudeau made it obvious during the election that he is in excellent physical condition and can do everything from boxing to hiking up the Grouse Grind mountain in Vancouver.

Since Vladimir Putin seems to value physical fitness and being fighting fit, the Trudeau Liberals decided to show that the only Canadian leader who can do that is Trudeau.

Harper & Mulcair are both older & overweight, and not able to engage in the same type of gruelling physical activity as Trudeau so the comparison was made for all to see.

how'd they do it?

Patrick Brazeau is a black belt and Trudeau had no problem polishing him off.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivered a blunt message during a brief chat with Russian President Vladimir Putin: back off Ukraine.

Trudeau said the two leaders had a brief conversation on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Antalya, Turkey.

"I pointed out that although Canada has shifted its approach on a broad range of multilateral and international issues, we remain committed to the fact that Russia's interference in Ukraine must cease; that we stand with the Ukrainian people and expect the president to engage fully in the Minsk peace process," he said.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-russia-trudeau-putin-ukraine-1.33...

Obviously this will have no impact on Putin but it is a statement of position

kropotkin1951

Trudeau really told him off. Imagine telling Putin he has to engage in the peace process that Russia has been involved with from the get go.  Oh well it will impress low information voters despite being a meaningless piece of fluff. Of course the converse of his actual statement is that Canada does not support the people of Donetsk in their fight against the fascist leaning government in Kiev. Once again our government is picking sides in an internal dispute in another country.

Slumberjack

Isn't Canada still providing support to the Kiev regime in some fashion?  Because that would mean voters have only exchanged one form of hypocrisy for another, being at least fully consistent with all of our elections.  But why doesn't the boy wonder stand with the people of eastern Ukraine who don't want to be ruled by fascists?  Because he's been told to say otherwise, that's why.  Any hand puppet can manage as much.

NDPP

Yes, it appears that Canada is still very much subservient to the dangerous ultranationalist lobby represented by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. And it is Canada and other NATO powers that have 'interfered' in Ukraine. Canada is in violation of Minsk with its CF 'trainers'. Canada is backing a failing kleptocracy that has put the Ukrainian people themselves under a horrible oppression in which journalists can be killed or jailed on a whim, the elderly exist on starvation pensions, and Nazi gangs run rampant. In a recent interview one of the representatives of the pro-federalist DNR-LNR oblasts stated that without the backing of the West the atrocities and bombing of civilians perpetrated by the US coup regime, would never have taken place.
